  1. I did not go to Prestatyn but my hubby did and he has just called me to tell me how good

'His Hero'  Mitch Ryder was.   He says he was note perfect and seeing him live was something he wouldn't have missed for the world.   In his words  'Mitch' you did us proud you were absolutely brilliant'.

from a link posted, heres word (and sound) of a interesting upcoming 45 release frpm Secret Stash records

    from link...

We just approved the 45 test pressings for the vocal and instrumental masters of "Sweatin' (Do What You Want To)" by Alvin Cash & The Registers, and it's release will be this Spring.

"Sweatin' (Do What You Want To)" was recorded in 1965 at One-derful! but never issued. It features Cash, assisted by a male chorus, chanting lyrics mentioning a host of dances, The Twist, Boomerang, Pony, Shake, and Twine, plus the latest dances, "Barracuda" and "Shotgun."

Years after it was recorded, a mislabeled instrumental acetate of the song surfaced in England. The acetate, under the incorrect name "You Got Me Baby" by The Kinettes, became a floor filler on the northern soul scene.

This new 45 will be the first official pressing of the "Sweatin' (Do What You Want To)" instrumental, and the discovery of the vocal take finally solves the mystery behind this sought after recording.
  3. I checked the articles on the 11 pages in the News Section, and none of the titles listed "The Salvadors".  I'd like to read your article to see if it has anything I missed.  Can you please find it for us and direct us to it?

There should be an article on them which I wrote back in 2011

Check the archive on this site. It's somewhere as a 'news feature'

    kev

here's a list of articles under your name

I can't find or recall an article about the salvadors

though there was this radio interview post....

    and similar from Bob A

    was there more posted ?

    cheers

    mike

  4. We know know it's true; it ain't proper Northern soul without a killer sax solo. 10 seconds of musical heaven to take the dancing up a notch and cue the spins, backdrops and Bruce Lee kicks!  So what's your favourite?  Which one still gives you chills?

And, it's not like I'm the Lord of the Thread or anything, but it would be great if you could post with clips and time-codes because it makes threads like this x times more interesting - agree?

Here's mine anyway at 1 min 10 secs.  It doesn't get better - or does it?

if you post the number of seconds into the clip added to the url  like this

    https://youtu.be/TZeTNA5tcME?t=70s

    then this happens

note you need to use the youtube be link (via the share button on the youtube page)

and you MUST use seconds as above not min sec

  5. What should you do - where should you look, how many lists do you need to look at - how many Facebook groups should you advertise on.

I know it depends on the 45 you want - interested in all the ways you go about finding an elusive 45 and any interesting means to do it.

    easy no fuss way

as you are already a member then just use the wants section on here

make sure you put your want in the title

  6. In short, no Mike. I've been following bootlegs since I worked @ Decca in the mid 70s. Back then it was the MCPS's responsibility to hunt down and prosecute. However, nothing much happened - they seemed to be waiting to catch the big boys at it and every so often, they would.

These days, the bootleggers operate from dubious addresses and always seem to stay one step ahead of any potential law suits. Truth is it costs far more in legal costs then you would ever recoup from a successful prosecution so it's simply not worth pursuing these people and they probably already know that. Basically the legal system is too expensive to bust anything less than a major player these days, so it's likely that they'll carry on indefinitely unfortunately....

    Ian D  :D

    thanks for reply Ian

but not really on about the law or courts etc

just online , as in ebay

if someone has the rights to  track 'x'  can they not report illegal copies of  track 'x' on ebay  and get them removed ?

  7. Based on a run of, say, 500 per bootlegged item, what loss of earnings and royalties, etc, compared to the mass-scale digital piracy associated with today's music?

I'm sure that in many cases it would probably cost rights owners more to chase someone pressing a limited run boot than they'd ever recover when they caught and prosecuted the people involved. Think of all the legal costs, salaries, etc, etc. I'd doubt if any court outcome would award costs that would cover all of that and even more to make it worthwhile.

Online marketplaces such as eBay and Discogs should perhaps be taking more responsibility - especially if eBay forbids the sale of counterfeit products in sectors outside of records. To not do so for records while doing so for other products seems rather hypocritical.

the owners of the rights should in theory just have to report to ebay etc yep?

same as they do for youtube

if someone owns or is leasing or whatever the rights to a track then shouldn't ebay etc listen to them and take the necessary action?

what do label involved types on here do ?

    ian d etc

do you report bootlegs of your tracks ?

  8. if talking about policing then

shouldn't the onus be on those who hold the rights to sort the policing out

have all these lookalike legal 45s and cd comps knocking around nowadays

so why aren't the people behind these  jumping on the non-legal releases on places like ebay

lost sales/profits  for these legal 45s/comps must also mean lost royalties due to the artists/writers  ?
