After a four year hiatus between releases, it's time for his sophomore single "Sweet Thing", and it's clear that his talent is like fine wine, a thing that needs its time. Since his premier release kicked off Stylart, the Timmion sublabel, Cold Diamond & Mink has put soul on the table with a steady pace and from this new track it's clear that they shine some special love for Fred. Carlton Jumel Smith & Cold Diamond & Mink - Woman You Made Me - Timmion Records Timmion releases yet another dance floor scorcher from the "1634 Lexington Avenue" album by New York soul man Carlton Jumel Smith. With its soul oozing a cappella intro followed with a drum & tambourine break "Woman You Made Me" is a perfect starter for the album. That's not say, it won't work exquisitely in single format in your dj set, jukebox or smoky listening sesh. Carlton's chops in testifying and performance really get to shine in these uptempo grooves cooked up by Timmion house band Cold Diamond & Mink. Impassionate horn riffs accompany Carlton's re-entry and it's hard to believe there'll be a still body left on the dance floor when he reaches the first verse. The track doesn't stop morphing, but goes through delicate twists and turns wooing the listener in with each measure. Flip the disc around and rock the instrumental for that early Kool & The Gang or TSU Toronadoes spirit. Which ever you spin, spin it loud and proud! View full store item

Eddie Floyd - Missing You / You Must Have Been Dreaming - Shotgun Records Eddie Floyd Missing You / You Must Have Been Dreaming Shotgun 104 Release Date - 11th October 2010 This 2010 release from Shotgun Records features two unreleased tracks from Eddie Floyd. Sourced from an unreleased 1979 LP project recorded in Jackson, Mississippi, the musicians on these tracks include Carson Whitsett, Ray Griffin and James Robertson with Jewel Bass and Valerie Kashimura on backing vocals. 'Missing You' is a rock solid outing which also features Wayne Jackson and Andrew Love of The Memphis Horns. While You Must Have Been Dreaming is a strong stand-up ballad. Listen above to both sides. Al Gardner / Jack Ashford - Sweet Baby / I'll Fly To Your Open Arms - Kent Town 174 Al Gardner’s 60s soul classic ‘Sweet Baby’ was issued in France as well as on a now-expensive Sepia single in Detroit, but it has never had a UK 45 release until now. The flip is a terrific previously LP-only track by Jack Ashford, the producer and writer of both sides of this 45. ZZ Hill / Peggy Woods - Make Me Yours / Love Is Gonna Get You (Brass version) - Kent Town 169 Z.Z. Hill was Kent/Modern’s main artist in the latter half of the 60s. In 1967 the company recorded him on an LP of soul classics, including Bettye Swann’s ‘Make Me Yours’ from only a few months before. His masculine angle on this marvelous song gave it a new dimension that would surely have fared well as a 45, but the track appeared on a single only in the UK, where it was well received but sold only to connoisseurs. Since then it has grown in popularity and at last it is available again for discerning collectors. Peggy Woods’ Northern Soul stomper ‘Love Is Gonna Get You’ was first on 45 in 1988 as a 100 Club anniversary single. With only approximately 400 pressed, it inevitably became sought-after. The Puffs / The Superbs - I Only Cry Once A Day Now / Wind In my Sails - Kent Town 168 The Puffs’ Doré release has been known and collected for years but recent DJ plays have caused demand for the disc to soar. The Superbs’ ‘Wind In My Sails’ was assumed to exist only as a master tape until a few scarce 45s emerged in the early 2000s.
