  3. Back in what now feels like a golden period in music and creativity, in the 1970s, many bands were formed by students. It almost seems like so many people could either sing, play, dance or write songs! This was also the case of several Woodland High School students in New York, who created Newban with fellow classmates. The group started gigging around the tri-state area of New York, Connecticut and New Jersey, and were soon brought to the attention of legendary Bell Recording Studios audio engineer Malcolm Addey, who recorded with the band over a two-month period in 1974. Three years later the tracks made up two superb and sought-after albums released by tax scam label Guinness. In 1977, Newban headed out to play the Los Angeles nightclub scene, closed a deal with A&M, and changed the band name to Atlantic Starr at the request of Herb Alpert. For the first time on a 7” format, Soul4Real brings you two of the best songs from Newban. Enjoy the music... Mark GV Taylor Each record will arrive in a glossy picture sleeve, complete with a poly cover and inner white sleeve. LIMITED EDITION

  7. Miles Away Records are proud to present our latest release Keep Holding On / You're The Best by Savoir-Flair. Dallas, Texas in 1982, during the hot summer months Roger Boykin, John Miller and Cassandra Wright were working as session musicians at Precision Audio studios. They were put together to create soundtracks, jingles and idents for US TV commercials and, in what spare studio time the three of them had, would experiment with the studio equipment at their disposal - writing and developing what would become the Savoir-Flair sound. In these secret, after-hours sessions the three would create a staggeringly good private press 80s modern soul album. A flawless collection of tracks with every one of them hitting hard. It would be released on Roger's own label SoulTex Records with the group touring locally. Alas though, this was to be their only album as Savoir-Flair disbanded a year later. The impact this album had however can still be felt today with the 45 and LP becoming highly sought after amongst modern soul collectors around the world. Can listen above

  9. Paris Ford wrote: "I think I have a copy of this record, it has really bad pop and scratches" Yes I was a member of the group! I played bass with them in the 70s I could not believe it ! I finally managed to find the guys behind the amazing KENYATTA group! Paris and I spend hours talking about music and I quickly realised that I was talking to a legend of funk, R&B bass player. I ended up starting my own label because of him and released Boogie On Down, EPS001 in November of last year. While we were chatting, Paris informed me that a year or two after the recording of Kick It Off, they returned to the CBS studio in Manhattan at the end of 1975 to record a full session, including 10 songs from a unfinished project that never actually came out. I asked him if I could listen to those tracks. I was blown away when I opened the attachments and started listening to these tunes. I've never heard anything like it and I knew these recordings were really special. If like me, you love to listen to obscure, unknown and sophisticated killer tunes! I am sure you will love these songs. After almost 3 years, I was finally able to get a full license of 4 unreleased songs from this session. The master tape has been badly damaged, although the quality of the sound files is far from perfect, I do hope you will still enjoy them. We managed to remaster them and this is the first time they are released on vinyl by Epsilon Record.Co in a limited edition.

  16. Here we go with another little number within our Detroit series. There’s not much more we can say about Steve Mancha and his career that was not not already said by folks way more knowledgeable than us in the scene. Just the little detail about this one, which was recorded short after he left Motown to work with Don Davis after several troubled attempts to hit the charts with quite a few songs and performing combos. At the dawn of ’66 Don Davis welcomed a disappointed Clyde Wilson after his multiple failures with Motown and pushed him to change his artist’s name in Steve Mancha as “see, Clyde Wilson ain’t really cutting the pie”. The demo take of “That’s Why I Love You” was recorded within the Detroit - Memphis workflow alongside several other cuts which never saw the light of the day. All copies come in a shrink wrapped quality picture sleeve - Limited Edition Press of 250

  18. Stable artists at the legendary Lamp - the so called “Naptown’s Motown” - these guys were part of the sparkling funk soul scene of Indianapolis alongside the likes of The Vanguards and The Fabulous Souls. Writer, producers, studio owners involved in these recordings all passed away except Herman Slaughter, founder member of the band and a blasting dj still active on his scene to these times. The recordings presented on this release went lost until 2 years ago. It’s been necessary a massive audio repair/restoration, hope you will appreciate the job we’ve done with them. 20. The amazing singer from our best-selling artists duo The Swans of New England delivers this stunning soul take on the Eurhythmics classic Here Comes the Rain from the 80’s givin’ evidence that soul music can turn everything from average limestone bricks to precious gold bars. Of course it was necessary to provide Coco’s vocals with the right arrangement but it’s just a slight contribution to the development of this very Tesla Groove fashioned sound exploration. Sure this experiment will kind of shock some of you but in all honesty we are all about takin’ on new paths of discovery. Limited Edition Press of 250

  24. Audio returns! And riding high, on the back of the success of his 2011, “New Beginnings” album. Although the above mentioned album was compiled from entirely unissued material from the 1980’s, this time around Vince Broomfield following on from his involvement with the respected Cool Millions project. Has presented us at Soul Junction with a brand new 2012 recording entitled “Won’t Somebody”. We at Soul Junction feel that this song is the best thing that Vince has recorded (to date) and have very high hopes of this becoming a future anthem. The flipside is another previously unissued track from the 80’s sessions which we unfortunately didn’t have room to include on the album.
