nah don't give levine any credit what so ever, it was already popular when he got it handed it him
sure was a few comments on here when he tried to blag the credit for other djs efforts, Russ Vickers, Alex Jones , John Weston to name a few been pushing it out and think was Ian Cuncliffe and his mucker who responsible for it first showing up
Great "smile on your face " record imo and that snake charmer intro slays me
*I knew you would swallow the bait Mike, since this has been debated on here and elsewhere before, and hence my "(let's not go there, again)".
Like you say, been played by a few on the "rare circuit" (or watcha wanna call it) over the years and appreciated by some, but never really made it bigtime with the northern mainstream, at least not yet. I am a real sucker for fast, simple and persistent records with tight drumming, also love that electric piano (or whatever it is, sounds like a harpsichord almost) similar sounding to the instrument used on "Sitting In My Class". Love the horns, the bass, the soulful and somewhat weird vocal (a bit like Jimmie Raye), love everything about it really.

yep hooked me there Christian
though had to say it, you know how it is <_ :0>
maybe its time has come , mucker picked up one recently, price 500 ish I think, insert green smiley

Clarence Townsend "I Found A New Love" on Clara to me seems very undervalued. I know of maybe 8 persons in the UK with copies, and I don't know how many more there are, maybe another 10 or so? Not too many around anyway and as far as I have been able to find out all copies around bar one came from the same find of a small quantity in the mid 90's or so. I have spoken to several US dealers about it and none had even heard about it. A record fast and good enough to have made it at many of the clubs of the past I think. With a similar feel as records like "Sitting In My Class" by Ronnie McNeir, "Let It Be Real" by George Hobson, or maybe a "Call Me" by Emmit Long injected with a lot of speed and testosterone. Not cheap at £500+ but most other equally rare (and sometimes more common) records of an equally high standard are usually found in the £1000 - £2000 bracket. It has mainly been played on the fringes of the scene so far it seems. Levine tried to introduce it as a new spin (let's not go there, again) on his recent revival a few years ago and it must have been by far the best record he "introduced" then. Perhaps the Levine connection is what has prevented some people from playing it even? Silly and far fetched perhaps, but if this is so it is really childish since it is a top drawer northern dance record with a soulfulness and production values that would appeal to some of the crossover/70's crowd as well perhaps, and it deserves to be heard by a wider audience IMO. Good thing with the lack of major exposure is that the price stayed "reasonable" and after 3 years of intense hunting and a few failed "almost there" attempts at getting it, I finally got one earlier this year.

Due to a few problems with forum
Have had to do some major changes
At moment the forum is working 100% , however it is not intergrated into main site
This was because of many login and other problems
What it means ?
Not much if your main use of site is posting in the forum - just log in via forum and carry on as normal
in fact, it should work better:)
however.... at current moment if want to post on the rest of the site you have to login there... pain i know but for now it was the quickest way to sort out the problems
*** note - not strictly true
all skin choices have been reset to the default
BUT when logged in the "skin chooser" will NOW work a lot better
apoligies for mess around, bear in mind that due to probs this was unavoidable

Hi Kolla, I have the Ede Robins on a UK release, but thanks for th link anyway. The Betty Brooks isn't in Manships book and I've asked a few people do they know this version, and no one had heard of it, just wondering if it's a rare record or not. Seems strange for 2 female versions to come out at the same time on the same label as they would be competing against each other for sales? Was the later 310 Ede Robins release due to the demand from the northern scene in the early to mid 70's? Is there a Le Cam discography anywhere?

Mark
Play instru flip, currently getting plays by robbo and karl r, must have heard it on coast at some time as was hammered by steve, mark m and all -last few years

hope helps, let us know if clicks when hear flip

please try and keep posts in this section soul wise
know what i mean
Idea being a section for guides and it "come in usefull" one day sort of stuffAt moment just one section, however if need be can have subsections
Basically anything that is loosely soul related, such as vinyl care, dj-ing techniques, terms, audio, soul on pc and so on should fit in, and provide a handy sorta thing

the great site MARV GOLDBERG'S R&B NOTEBOOKS
covers all going ons in great depth with Drapers getting a mention but in a different way and at different times
full storys at the links below clip , but gets a bit confusing for me
Once, when the Drifters had appeared in Cleveland (probably on the first day of their big Gale Agency tour on August 6), Bill Pinkney was approached by Johnny Moore, who sang with a local group named the Hornets (James "Sonny" Long - lead, Johnny Moore - tenor, Ben Iverson - baritone, and Gus Miller - bass), that had recorded "I Can't Believe" for the States label. Moore inquired about any likely future openings with the Drifters. Nothing came of it, but the next time the Drifters played Cleveland (the Circle Theater, during Thanksgiving week, 1954, with Arthur Prysock, Annie Laurie, Wilbert Harrison, and Paul Weston's Orchestra), Moore once again approached Pinkney, auditioned, and received a call the next day to get packed for a tour of the South. The Drifters were now a quintet with two lead tenors. Little Dave would lead on the "A" sides (like "Money Honey") and Johnny would lead on the "B" sides (like "Gone" and "The Way I Feel"). Moore's hiring was actually an attempt to get Little Dave to straighten himself out.main drifters page

Chalky, is it the Joe Pirolli version?
I've got an alternate male vocal to Vivian Carroll Oh Yeah Yeah Yeah here.
link
Andy Rix played the alternate vocal to Sam Fletcher, very "white" sounding too. It's a Dick Charles studio acetate sung by W.B. Willingham who co wrote "I'd think it over" Unfortunatley, it is recorded a little too fast and that's why it might sound a little pink around the gills!
link
had forgotten all about that version, popular when played at the monkey, didnt sound that bad at all imo
sure (well 75% sure as usual ) that the yeah yeah yeah got an outing mmmmm... maybe
for the answer to the candi staton "upper hand" look at the writing credits pretty sure the version played by dean anderson is bob fowler ,hope that helpsMick
link
thanks yet again Mick
other alts anyone???
sidra theme other vocal ... Something anthony ??

Rachael - ketchup! They're not squares, their spangles... Janine tells me you're only ten so you wouldn't have know that though.
Mike are any of the above suggestions helpful at all ? The decision is yours (and don't let Big O influence you!) If no-one comes up with any others - maybe do a poll between JoT, Dave and mine

Be great if all ebay link sellers did this,
always wary off following blind ebay links
as once on there can end up spending both too much time and to much money
plus as titles posted show in the site search engine could be good for the seller as could lead to more potenial bidders
