Soulshaker Vol.2 Cd/lp And Enri Music Performed
Had a pass on of 2 recent cd releases from Record Kicks distrubted in Uk by Kudos records... . read on GET READY!!! VA - SOULSHAKER VOL.2 (CD / LP) Real funk, soul & groovy club soundz from today's scene! "Dear friends, here we are at the second stop of SoulShaker. Get your dance-floor shoes ready as another long ride through the world's groovy funk & soul club scene awaits you. Get started with The Voodoo Trombone Quartet and Lemon, quintessence of London's legendary Club Montepulciano, here dealing with an overwhelming and breathtaking cocktail Latin Boogaloo, followed by the similar Kelvin Stardust, the opening track of Big Boss Man's brand new second album "Winner". Pass the hatchet baby!!! Let's stay in the realm of groovy club soundz with Gogo Sitar by Germany's Kahuna Kawentzmann, which already became a true underground hit thanks to the spread of 7" by Jazzman Records, the same label that publishes the flaming Sharon Jackson and her Soul Destroyers. Blow your top! Quantic is among the leading figures of the new international club scene. "Don't joke with an Hungry Man' man proves that this is a top class young talent, indeed in this case helped by the voice of the legendary Spanky Wilson! "Coming back" is the brand new single by SMOOVE from Acid Jazz Records. Massive! English band Speedometer deliver a preview taken from their second album "This is Speedometer vol.2", which states all the je ne sais quoi of these Southeast boys. "Have you got the message"?!! The best of nowadays' mod scene is embodied by Scottish band Boogaloo Investigators, by Italy's Link Quartet, featured with the previously unreleased song Sweet little apples, by American band Diplomats of Solid Sound and by the Nick Rossi Set, respectively dealing with Loaf and jug and with the cover of Foolkiller by Mose Allison. Sharon Jones - who only just delivered a sold out performance at Camden's Jazz Caf - certainly doesn't need to be introduced, as she is beyond question the number one lady of soul. What condition, which already became a classic of the northern soul scene thanks to the version by Betty Lavette, is an unreleased track that, at present, has been turning only on 7". In order to remain within the classics, French band Slow Slushi Boys have no fear of comparison with Ike Turner. Just listen to their song "I can't believe what you say". And, what should we say about the hot Hammond-funk played by English band Sting Ray Davies & The Organites, a side project by Leight Gracie of Speedometer and Stoned Soul Picnic!!!???!! Wow!" Nick Recordkicks SOULSHAKER VOL. 2 TRACK LIST 1 VTQ - Your pleasure - Freshly Squeezed Music UK 2 Big Boss Man - Kelvin Stardust - Blow Up Records UK 3 Speedometer - Hev you got the message - Blow It Hard Records UK 4 Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings - What Condition - Daptone Records USA 5 Quantic feat. ENRI is a project built around the figure of Hammond-organ player Enrico Zavalloni, a.k.a. Mr. Erbazzoni. The new line-up includes ¾ of now-split-up band Vip200. At the beginning of the new millennium, together with Montefiori Cocktail, Vip200 were Italy's 60s lounge scene top band. Much in demand both in Italy and abroad the band boasts fans such as big shots Pizzicato Five with whom they collaborated for the record MISS MAKI NOMIYA SINGS, released in Japan by Ready Made, and Maxwell Implosion with whom they wrote A Small Circle of Friends, released by Virgin. Their debut album Psicoerotica, which was released in Italy, in 2001, enclosed with the magazine Il Giaguaro, was re-published, in 2002, by Rambling Records in Japan where they also star on a number of compilations, among which "A taste of Honey" and "I WAS A YE YE GIRL". Another great fan of Vip200 is Eddie Piller, founder of Acid Jazz Records and producer of Jamiroquai, up to the point of wanting them on the compilations NEW TOTALLY WIRED Vol.2 and NEW RELEASES OF JAZZ, which he produced. "Music performed" is a record steeped in 60s sounds, which keeps aloof from the cocktail-lounge scene to venture out to the spheres of soul, funk and Hammond groove with a taste of space-age ambiences and easy-listening references. A hot mix inspired by the great masters such as "Booker T. & the MGS", "Sly & the family stone" , "The Impressions" going through "Piero Piccioni" and the psychedelic side of "Air". A record where true stomper soul tracks such as "I'm a vip" and "Old enough" take turns with vaguely psychedelic space-age ballads like "Aria". The record also includes authentic divertissements such as the sparkling cover of "Lessons in love" by Level 42, one of the never off the air tracks of the 80s. Bustling about between Hammond, Clavinet, Melodica and Synth together with excellent drummer Luca "Zanlock" and Francesco "Fuzz", former guitarist of Jestofunk (Irma Records), ENRI leads us into a sizzling sound cocktail directly inspired by northern soul, rough funk and nu soundz that will make the listener sweat. Don Varner Cd Release Titled "finally Go Over"
"Don Varner new CD Album titled "Finally Go Over!" on the UK Label SHOUT! will be released on May 30th 2005. It is also already available online for pre-ordering... Here are some clips of announcements about the upcoming release: This series represents RPMs foray into what In The Basement magazine calls Real Soul and R&B, primarily from the 60s, but with some crossover into the '50s and '70s. SHOUT! was chosen as an imprint name from its connotations with the Isley's hit, also the Shout label subsidiary of Bert Berns Bang label, and last but not least because label co-chief Clive Richardson used to publish a Soul magazine in the '70s called...Shout. The logo design is somewhere between the original Shout and Minit label designs. You can reach us at: Shout Records, P.O.Box 49215, London SE12 9XF. Email us at shout.r-@btinternet.com New and Forthcoming on Shout! "...we are very pleased to announce the May release of DON VARNER - "Finally Got Over - Deep Soul From The Classic Era", comprising a comprehensive selection of southern soul ballads and beat recorded in the mid/late 1960's by this great but under-rated baritone-voiced soul man, released by kind agreement with and full co-operation of his widow, Mrs Francine Varner. This CD will be issued on RPMSH 299, and full details of the 23 tracks will be advised shortly." Album Details "Don Varner Had a Powerful Baritone Voice and Could Sing Rasping Uptempo Items and Pleading Ballads with Equal Quality of Performance. Shout Records have Pleasure in Presenting the First Comprehensive CD Collection by One of the True Giants of Southern Soul, with the Assistance and Endorsement of his Widow. The Re-issue Production was Co-ordinated by Clive Richardson, who Commissioned Booklet Notes from David Cole, Editor of in the Basement, the Specialist Soul Magazine, and who Conducted the Last Interview with Don Varner Before his Tragic Death in 2002. Includes all Don Varners Recordings Released on the Quinvy and South Camp Labels, plus the Unreleased Material, and Are Truly Uncut Southern Soul Gems from 1968-1974." Wants/sales - Together Or Seperate
Cheers for views, aint got time at moment to do ought major so was more of a case of sounding out for future tweaks understand what Dans is saying, as in making space for a sounds section but theres both pros and cons on the sound thing, and not convinced yet. see thread in site news for more (thinking about it will move this thread there as well in a moment or two) on wants - think trick would be that everyone entered their want in a format in the title, say artist-title-label as in each forum you can choose a default of how list of posts are displayed - time, alphabetical, etc etc could do it to display say alphabetical and could do the job however... and its a big however! it would mean that everyone must follow this format ! call me a pessimist but going by overall way see some use site, think be hoping a bit for that to happen suppose it boils down to choice of a loose or structured format in end, with benifits and down bits of each mmmm... anyway as said thanks for view, views from those out there always worthwhile and will move this later into site info bit mike

Lookback At Monkey Llandudno Sat 07th May
Lookback At Monkey Llandudno Sat 07th May 3 years since the very first monkey and could say things have changed a bit since those days! One slight change, that there is a slight chance some may have noticed, is that the main nights have moved. No more hanging out in the good old borderlands, instead have moved about 50 miles away to the North Wales coast in Llandudno Thanks to Chico's fine efforts a new venue has been sorted, well say new but as it is The Penrhyn Old Hall in Llandudno, some may say “revived” as was the home of the highly rated soul nights that were held there around 7 years ago. The venue is a large listed 16th century manor hall here, and while on the outside it looks just like that, once inside the building there is a bit of a tardis effect. The dance complex part is purpose made for such an event, dj booth, a unusual floor and layout, all a bit different from the usual but sort of tailor made if know what I mean, and have to say that apart from Chico having to do a bit of tomfoolery with the sound system, any night which after 10 mins of turning up the venue is ready to roll is a most welcome change! Crowd wise was great to have such a good turn out for the first one at a new location, and had many dmsc regulars showing up, which along with many new faces got this new series of events off to a flying start with a fresh vibe. Thanks to all the travelers who made the trip from all over- Chester , Kent, Hampshire, Wirrall, Manchester, Midlands, Yorkshire and so on and of course thanks to all those from North Wales. Sounds wise, guest for this one was Andy Dyson who did a great set, rest of the dj line up was as per the flyer/plays below and going by ears and eyes( as in floor reaction and feedback both on and after night ) did the business. Anyway thanks to all who were there, djs, event staff, door team and of course all who come in thru door, all feedback have had is was a great nite, to me place had a great buzz, crowd was up for it and up amongst best monkeys have had. Next definite one at Old Hall is Friday 27 Aug (gap due to summer) and looks like going to be a big one as can be billed either as first time at monkey for Soul Sam (dj-ing not as a punter that is) or can be classed as a welcome return to the Old Hall for him! few words on nite from Janine and Dave and a few pics in Janines album Thanks to Colin and Jean for hospitality afterwards, think Dave and Janine were the furthest travellers, and was good to catch up again with loads
