Ooh you guys. How many of you would actually play Love You Baby?

No doubt you will all ridicule me for saying this, but I feel you are not only cheating the public but also yourself. Where is the integrity in playing bootlegs?

Is there such a thing as DJing with boots unknowingly?

I'm not a promoter, haven't got it in me I'm afraid. That said, no way no how, not in our little back room get together!

If people want to buy bootlegs then good luck to them. I don't buy them btw I personally feel if you are going to get up there and play to paying punters, then play originals. Not everyone feels that way. But I do. Double standards? Where?

One song that is cram packed with great lines is 'I'm The One' - Larry Williams. "you mistook my kindness for a weakness...you must have thought I was a jelly fish..." "when I work hard all day, bringing home all my pay...you sit around the house getting fat..." "when I met you had patches on your britches..."

It's not about owning bootlegs though is it? It's about playing them out at a venue.

That is why I said some people don't agree with it. Then again, you can't see it without an ultra violet light. Anyway, I don't sell my records, therefore it isn't a problem.

I'm sorry Leigh, that is the equivalent of a bootleg. It is original refosoul only on here! Sorry for calling you Lee, Leigh.

I know some people don't agree with this, but I mark all my records with one of those ultraviolet markers. As a rule you don't notice it with the naked eye, but it is there non the less just in case the unthinkable happens. I understand it is a little different when you are selling instead of collecting. Might be a good move however, especially with more expensive sales. All the best. Joan

Apparently people do that Pete. Folk get what they want out of the soul scene. And rightly so! That said, for me it is about integrity. And for me that means ovo. Boring I know. Integrity might mean something completely different to someone else. Anyway, pressing and bootleg is soooo yesterday. I think FAUX sounds so much better

I don't believe it, we have an upside to playing boots at a venue, it's good for your heart. I can see it now: PLAY BOOTS - IT COULD SAVE THE LIFE OF A LOVED ONE

With respect, the issue is not with the people going out and dancing their ass off after working all week. The issue is with people DJing with non originals. Anyway, you seem pretty bothered to me for someone who isn't so bothered

I think you will find collectors of stamps collect original stamps. Oh, and I go to venues to dance like a nerd

At the end of the day, I suppose the depth of your soul music addiction is a personal thing. We are all addicted, but some of us more so than others. People get what they want out of the soul scene, and rightly so! Some just want to go and dance. Some just want to go and sit. Some want to go and dance (or sit) and collect the tunes they dance (or sit) to and couldn't give a back drop what format it's on. Others collect original vinyl only. For me it is ovo because integrity is what it's all about for me. Others feel differently but hey ho, you do what 'sits right' with you. Collect music on what ever format you want. But if you are going to DJ, please have some integrity.

With regards to the writing on the label of a record, ordinarily it would reduce the value considerably. I'm not so sure in this case. FW is totally unique as far as records go and the writing on the label is part of the history and the provenance of the record. And provenance is a big thing when it comes to collecting anything.

Have heard a lot worse! Granted it's not the best. Still sounds great imo.
