  1. Anyone got ay idea who this female vocalist might be on this 8" Florida acetate, the first track "What's the reason" is not the best vocal just interested to know who it might be and maybe the year? I understand that 5 digit Florida telephone numbers were phased out I the 60's. I haven't included the 2nd track its a shocker. https://www.ecommerceplayer.com/MediaPlayer.aspx?id=4d39e2bc-c300-4339-b459-0139290e6b5a

  3. Previously up for short notice offers this stunning 45 is now listed as SET SALE, hopefully removing any worry about competing with others, simply first come first served will secure. Jimmy Delphs – Dancing a hole in the world / Instrumental – Carla 1904 M- £2000 I’ve done away with the informative liner style notes to focus on the fact that whilst this rare red stock copy has a biro X and minor mark on the label, the vinyl is in top class condition especially in terms of play, look and lustre. I appreciate that Anglo American were auctioning a copy at the time of my listing, that closed yesterday evening at £2300. This copy is completely unrelated, there isn’t a find, it’s not likely others will turn up any time soon and as it turns out it’s competitive. Fully insured post included in the UK, overseas to be determined. PayPal by friends or add 4% or alternatively bank transfer. Thank you, Lee

  5. Balancing the in’s with an out….. Jimmy Delphs – Dancing a hole in the world / Instrumental – Carla 1904 M- OFFERS Where would we be without Ollie McLaughlin’s telling contribution to the Detroit 60’s Soul scene, which was ultimately made possible through the trio of labels named after his daughters, Carla, Karen and Moira? Just one more night of marital bliss for Ollie and Gloria (may have joined the fold! One thing’s for sure, we probably wouldn’t have been able to marvel at the astounding legacy left by Ollie if it wasn’t for his musical vision and desire to compete with a host of other famous or emerging Detroit labels. To be able to take in and comprehend the vast amount of talent amassed by Ollie and their eventual output, it would be simpler to use a “Stars Wars” like rolling movie credit to capture the artists, groups, writers and producers associated with these fabulous label recordings. Artists like; Deon Jackson, Barbara Lewis, Kelly Michaels, Sharon McMahan, Betty LaVette and Belita Woods. Groups, whether they be one or multiple hit wonders, like; the Compacts, Four Pro’s, Ad-Libs, Capitols, Soul Twins and Firestones. Nothing would be achievable without the guys behind the scene, these often invisible geniuses turn out to be a who’s who of crafting Soul, Riley Hampton, Richard Wylie, Tony Hestor, Mike Terry, Sonny Sanders, Jimmy "Soul" Clark, Earl Van Dyke and The Funk Brothers. At the pinnacle of collecting the rarest of Soul from this rich group of labels sits the likes of the Gambrells, Matt Lucas, the Volumes (so in-demand) and of course Jimmy Delphs. “Dancing a hole in the world” was thought for many years to be a white promo only release, until inevitably evidence of stock copies surfaced in various places around the world and probably only reconciled by the advent of the internet and social media! Never the less this record in this format is considered, justifiably to be the hardest to acquire from Ollie’s stock, which is made even more enticing by the shape it’s in, barring a biro X and slight rub on the label. For such steady rarity I’d still go as far using JM’s strap line CONDITION, CONDITION, CONDITION. Minimum offer is £2000 running just over 48 hours until 9pm on Wednesday 28 June, unless I get an offer I can’t refuse in between. PayPal by friends or add 4%, alternatively bank transfer. 20. Sam Moore – Give you plenty lovin’ – Atlantic 2762 Ex £600 Even the Artist was unaware this existed in 45 format when he released his “Plenty good lovin” album on the UK Swing Café label in 2002. That was 30 years after his Sam and Dave career, yet this powerful crossover dancer ekes class on an upbeat tempo, and why not, it was Sam Moore's rich vocals which brought him well earned commercial success and a place in Soul's hall of fame. Cut at Atlantic studios under the stewardship of the brilliant King Curtis, there are only a small number around and its thought by many collectors to be the rarest Soul release on Atlantic. There’s some of superficial marks on the vinyl, the odd light pop, but this has little affect as it plays superb. Some light ring wear on the labels. Scan and sound file provided. Same Moore - Give you plenty lovin'.mp3 Cheers, Lee

  23. Irma & Fascinators – Just a feeling / Lost love – Scepter 12100 WD M- £80 This iteration of the Larks as a group of performing artists presents an intriguing history, which demonstrated that time waits for no one. What is very evident is the wonderful level of personal resilience that the trio of Philadelphian Soul stalwarts that kept this nearly successful recording group in existence for roughly 15 years. The main players, Calvin Nichols, Bill Oxendine and Weldon McDougal had always been the driving force and constant feature for a group that changed lead singer for literally each separate label release. Even then, the names and labels associated with their catalogue are synonymous with the word CLASS; lead singers - Jackie Marshall, Joe Hunter, Barbara Mason and the late Vivian McDougal; labels - Sheryl, Guyden, Arock, and Tower, all of which grace the Northern scene, the latter hosted the Four Larks of course. Out in front of the Larks for the 1963 release of the popular “Without you baby” on Priority Records (latterly released nationally on Fairmount) was Irma Jackson, a college student and friend of McDougal. 2 years later she was leading on this fabulous Scepter double sider, reputedly mastered at the 1963 session for the Priority release. Whilst the Larks had become the Fascinators for this solitary 45, Irma spun the magic with 2 contrasting vocals, “Lost Love” with a strict intensity and “Just a feeling” a traditional happy go lucky girly feel. Combined with "Without you baby" we just start to glimpse a stunning recording talent that like so many disappeared, a real loss, but let's not forget the quality backing from that fantastic all male backing group who did stand the test of time. The 45 is in great condition and a M- example for your collection. 24. Jimmy Raye – You must be losing your mind / For the sake of love – Garrison 3008 WD M- £125 SOLD Jimmie Raye hailed from Niagara Falls, NY and he created Niagara Records, a one-record label for his second release in 1963. By 1964 he was recording for Tuff Records at Broadway Studios in New York City, which hosted some of the heaviest R&B hitters in the fledgling field of Soul. Jimmie's next recordings at Broadway Studio were issued on labels out of Buffalo. 2 on KKC, including the classic "Philly dog around the world" and another on JRE (Jimmie Raye Enterprises). The legendary Bernard Purdie drummed, Ashford & Simpson sang back up vocals and Sticks Evan did the arranging. It's even reported that Barry White actually oversaw the 1967 session. The release of "You Must Be Losing Your Mind / For The Sake Of Love" on JRE Records in 1967 came out with the deceptive label address of Buffalo NY, detailing the same street and number identified as 'Williamsville' and attributed to Century Records releases. Following its 1967 JRE release "You Must Be Losing Your Mind / For The Sake Of Love" was picked up by national label Garrison Records, a part of Scepter / Wand Records. Who would have thought that the same artist that brought us the triumphant "Philly dog around the world" would indulge in a slick beat ballad and a sublime mid-tempo dancer. This 45 is in great shape, both labels are clean and the styrene on the top side M-, whereas the "sake of love" side has a light scuff that does not affect play, so visual Ex, but again plays M- Jimmy Raye - You must be losing your mind.mp3 Jimmy Raye - For the sake of love.mp3 PayPal as friends or add 4% please Postage: £2.50 - 1st Class Signed For £7.50 - Special Delivery (My preferred option, fully insured for 45’s over £50 unless you take responsibility?)
