  3. Sam Moore – Give you plenty lovin’ – Atlantic 2762 Ex £600 Even the Artist was unaware this existed in 45 format when he released his “Plenty good lovin” album on the UK Swing Café label in 2002. That was 30 years after his Sam and Dave career, yet this powerful crossover dancer ekes class on an upbeat tempo, and why not, it was Sam Moore's rich vocals which brought him well earned commercial success and a place in Soul's hall of fame. Cut at Atlantic studios under the stewardship of the brilliant King Curtis, there are only a small number around and its thought by many collectors to be the rarest Soul release on Atlantic. There’s some of superficial marks on the vinyl, the odd light pop, but this has little affect as it plays superb. Some light ring wear on the labels. Scan and sound file provided. Same Moore - Give you plenty lovin'.mp3 Cheers, Lee
  4. Yep, I've had a perfectly centred copy, acquired from Sweden not the US!
  5. Fabulous Soul Masters – I can’t see nobody / Funky thing – Tener 1034 Ex OFFERS A LITTLE UNDER 12 HOURS TO RUN Vinyl is excellent with some light marks, a couple of light pops, but otherwise a superb play. Labels clean. Minimum offer is £2000. Closes at 7pm on Wed 26 April. Fabulous Soul Masters - I can't see nobody.mp3 Fabulous Soul Masters - Funky thing.mp3 Full details here: Cheers, Lee
  6. Irma & Fascinators – Just a feeling / Lost love – Scepter 12100 WD M- £80 This iteration of the Larks as a group of performing artists presents an intriguing history, which demonstrated that time waits for no one. What is very evident is the wonderful level of personal resilience that the trio of Philadelphian Soul stalwarts that kept this nearly successful recording group in existence for roughly 15 years. The main players, Calvin Nichols, Bill Oxendine and Weldon McDougal had always been the driving force and constant feature for a group that changed lead singer for literally each separate label release. Even then, the names and labels associated with their catalogue are synonymous with the word CLASS; lead singers - Jackie Marshall, Joe Hunter, Barbara Mason and the late Vivian McDougal; labels - Sheryl, Guyden, Arock, and Tower, all of which grace the Northern scene, the latter hosted the Four Larks of course. Out in front of the Larks for the 1963 release of the popular “Without you baby” on Priority Records (latterly released nationally on Fairmount) was Irma Jackson, a college student and friend of McDougal. 2 years later she was leading on this fabulous Scepter double sider, reputedly mastered at the 1963 session for the Priority release. Whilst the Larks had become the Fascinators for this solitary 45, Irma spun the magic with 2 contrasting vocals, “Lost Love” with a strict intensity and “Just a feeling” a traditional happy go lucky girly feel. Combined with "Without you baby" we just start to glimpse a stunning recording talent that like so many disappeared, a real loss, but let's not forget the quality backing from that fantastic all male backing group who did stand the test of time. The 45 is in great condition and a M- example for your collection. 7. Jimmy Raye – You must be losing your mind / For the sake of love – Garrison 3008 WD M- £125 SOLD Jimmie Raye hailed from Niagara Falls, NY and he created Niagara Records, a one-record label for his second release in 1963. By 1964 he was recording for Tuff Records at Broadway Studios in New York City, which hosted some of the heaviest R&B hitters in the fledgling field of Soul. Jimmie's next recordings at Broadway Studio were issued on labels out of Buffalo. 2 on KKC, including the classic "Philly dog around the world" and another on JRE (Jimmie Raye Enterprises). The legendary Bernard Purdie drummed, Ashford & Simpson sang back up vocals and Sticks Evan did the arranging. It's even reported that Barry White actually oversaw the 1967 session. The release of "You Must Be Losing Your Mind / For The Sake Of Love" on JRE Records in 1967 came out with the deceptive label address of Buffalo NY, detailing the same street and number identified as 'Williamsville' and attributed to Century Records releases. Following its 1967 JRE release "You Must Be Losing Your Mind / For The Sake Of Love" was picked up by national label Garrison Records, a part of Scepter / Wand Records. Who would have thought that the same artist that brought us the triumphant "Philly dog around the world" would indulge in a slick beat ballad and a sublime mid-tempo dancer. This 45 is in great shape, both labels are clean and the styrene on the top side M-, whereas the "sake of love" side has a light scuff that does not affect play, so visual Ex, but again plays M- Jimmy Raye - You must be losing your mind.mp3 Jimmy Raye - For the sake of love.mp3 PayPal as friends or add 4% please Postage: £2.50 - 1st Class Signed For £7.50 - Special Delivery (My preferred option, fully insured for 45’s over £50 unless you take responsibility?) Fabulous Soul Masters – I can’t see nobody / Funky thing – Tener 1034 Ex OFFERS Vinyl is excellent with some light marks, a couple of light pops, but otherwise a superb play. Labels clean. Minimum offer is £2000. I'll run this until 7pm on Wed 26 April unless I get an offer I can't refuse in between. What I know……. Virtually unknown Northern dancer surrounded by greatness and obscurity in equal measure. Penned by Robin & Barry Gibb this 1967 release was the flip to their first US / UK chart entry, setting them on their road to greatness. In 1969 Nina Simone, our sultry soul sister accentuated the Bee Gees melancholy production with soulful tones, itself worth a listen. In contrast this version of “I Can’t see nobody” is a gripping up-tempo dancer launched on a fanfare of brass and delicate drum roll, carried by imploring vocals, rasping horns and a frantic sax finale. Backed by a superb heavyweight funk instrumental, this 45 will bridge the gap between rooms. Eric T. Schabacker was at the heart of Orlando’s music industry, the founder member of his own band “The Starfires” and Tener Enterprises, the stable for the Tener, Hype and Immunity record labels. Paul Sindab’s 100mph “You dropped your candy in the sand” on Hype is a rare excursion into the soul genre from this trio of labels. Understandable as the relatively bulky Tener catalogue immerses itself in a muddle of musical styles ranging from garage through psych, punk, funk to gospel. Practically every fraternity, sorority, college, university, high school and youth centre in Florida was hiring talent from Bee Jay Booking Agency (and eventual Recording Studio) who coordinated the tour schedules of the label’s artists. Schabacker ventured into several one-off labels over the years, the best known are probably Dove (Dolly Gilmore), Memphis Express (Backlash) and the eponymous Chocolate Balloon Company. “The Fabulous Soul Masters” recorded what appears to be the last numbered release on the Tener label in 69 and whilst the Bee Jay Studio team thought this Bee Gees cover would be more popular, the WLOF Radio Station in Orlando went for the official A side “Funky thing” because they used instrumentals as music beds to get them to the news. Other than the sax player Edward Hayes Jr, little is known about the band and its lead, and only one other release to speak of on an un-named private press titled “Funk for the Duke”, which is also rare. I don’t DJ so I can’t be messing with covering it up, maybe it already is as I am sure someone will know it, someone always does! Personally, I am aware of only 1 other copy with a US collector so it’s ripe for activation and time to rise from obscurity. Fabulous Soul Masters - I can't see nobody.mp3 Fabulous Soul Masters - Funky thing.mp3 Cheers, Lee
  9. Just the one for now and what a one..... JJ Barnes - Please let me in / I think I found a love - Ric-Tic 106 WD Ex+ SOLD - Acceptable Offer Taken Amongst the top 3 rarest White Demo's from the Ric-Tic catalogue, which has been sat in my collection for well over 10 years and although I have on occasions thought about selling it I have always resisted as it was too precious. Completely out of the blue I strike it rich with another copy, in virtually the same condition, with the same 2 Red X's but ink not felt tip. There's nothing between them but one can go. It's well known fact that when this demo shows up it's normally beat up, generally VG+ or worse, or the labels are wrecked in some way. If you can bear a couple of Red X's and just a few superficial surface marks that don't affect play then this conservatively graded Ex+ copy is for you. The flip label is clean. RareSoul45's sold a VG++ with heavily discoloured / marker penned X's label copy in July last year for just under 400, so that's what I'm basing my minimum on. I'll let this run for offers until 7pm on Sunday 23 April unless I get one I can't refuse. Minimum is £400. PayPal is welcomed by friends and family or bank transfer. Postage is £7.50 special delivery in the UK and overseas determined when destination known. Cheers, Lee JJ Barnes - Please let me in.mp3
  10. Some newly listed and a couple re-aired; Sound files will be loaded ASP; PM to ask any questions or reserve. Jimmy Raye – You must be losing your mind / For the sake of love – Garrison 3008 WD M- £150 (Originally released on the tiny JRE label, I can only assume “Garrison” was used to increase local sales potential rather than achieve a national release. 2 sublime crossover dancers on this gorgeous white demo, can’t pick one over the over, but “sake of love” has a little more oomph about it) Jimmy Raye - For the sake of love.mp3 Geater Davis – My love is so strong for you – House of Orange 2402 M- £40 (Uncannily similar vocals and arrangement to E. Rodney Jones up the list, just a gear down but equally superb moody and understated Memphis dancer) Geater Davis - My love is so strong for you.mp3 Jimmy McFarland – Lonely lover – RPR 108 M- £350 (An unpredictable coming together of component parts provides us with an awesome motor town inspired Northern Soul classic. An established West coast label, the unrivalled writing skills of Holland, Dozier, Holland and the brilliant but unknown McFarland on what appears to be his only outing. Light label discolouration as if it’s rubbed up against something red, plays lovely) Jimmy McFarland - Lonely lover.mp3 Kitty Love – It’s love I need – Ru-Jac 0018 Ex £400 ON HOLD (Rufus Mitchell’s vast Baltimore label was propped up by the likes of Winfield Parker, Gene & Eddie and Fred Martin’s Review, but filled in with some seriously hard to find releases, the Caressors, Sir Joe and the obscure Mask Man & the Cap-Tans, so why not after such a long-standing existence wouldn’t a label like this still throw up relatively unknown tracks to be championed. Just like the Rita Doryse 45 I offered a few months back this release is even harder to come by, with its pulsing horn section and hammond organ break guiding a raw but infectious femme R&B flavoured dancer along, WOW, if you’re an aspiring DJ looking to break something new here’s your chance. 2 tiny circular solvent like stains above the label name, minor marks on vinyl, but nothing to impact on a mint minus play - this is RARE) Kitty Love - It's love I need.mp3 E. Rodney Jones – Peace of mind – Tuff 421 Ex £175 ON HOLD (Chugs along on classy deep vocals, catchy lyrics, in track drum rolls and that classic sax break, which all comprise parts of this superbly constructed industrial soul. Half decent bluesy flip from Jones who incidentally DJ’d at WXOK in Baton Rouge. Minor marks on vinyl, plays mint minus, and light ring wear on label, Bob penned on flip label) E. Rodney Jones - Peace of mind.mp3 Debora Healey – Don't do nothing I wouldn't do – Wheelsville 104 Ex £125 (Very hard number on the label, rarely seen for sale, refreshing early femme Detroit, digits on label) Dont do nothing I wouldnt do.wav PayPal as friends or add 4% please Postage: £1.25 – 1st Class Regular £2.50 - 1st Class Signed For £7.50 - Special Delivery (My preferred option, fully insured for 45’s over £50 unless you take responsibility?) Paul Anka - I can't help loving you – RCA 8893 WD M- £100 (Some minor paper marks and the label is a bit grubby, but it plays M- bar 3 light pops at the run out) Johnny Williams - Just a little misunderstanding - Bashie 103 WD Ex+ £35 Fred Hughes - Don’t let this happen - Brunswick 55446 M- £40 Fred Hughes - Walk on back to you - Exodus 1035 M- £40 Kim Weston - Thrill a moment - Gordy 7041 WD M- £80 Barrino Brothers - Trapped in a love - Invictus 9083 Ex £30 Jackie Taylor - Walking back - Jubilee 5530 WD Ex ltrw £40 Two Tons of Love - Brown and beautiful - Kapp 2095 WD M- £20 Chalfontes - Confessin’ my love to you / He loves me - Mercury 72474 M- £80 ON HOLD (Small edge tear on Confessin’ label) Jackie Day - Before it’s too late - Modern 1028 M- £65 Billy Butler - You’re gonna be sorry - Okeh 7227 WD M- £30 Montclairs – Hung up on your love – Paula 381 Ex+ £30 (Pink miss-press, plays “hung up” not “How can one man love” as titled) Linda Lyndell - Bring your love back to me - Volt 161 WD M- £75 PayPal as friends or add 4% please Postage: £1.25 – 1st Class Carrier Pigeon £2.50 - 1st Class Signed For £7.25 - Special Delivery (My preferred option, fully insured for 45’s over £50 unless you take responsibility?) Nice little selection up for grabs here. As ever, sound files available on request. PM to ask any questions or reserve. Adventurers – Easy baby – Compass 7010 DJ M- £550 (Northern anthem and what a floor filler. Brown lettering demo, “R” (Rockaway, New Jersey) stamped original in as good a condition as I’ve seen, minor mark on label. June last year saw the same format fetch £800 on E-bay, with other demos in lesser condition fetching £550+) Jimmy Raye – You must be losing your mind / For the sake of love – Garrison 3008 WD M- £175 (I only ever played the slower “losing your mind”, but I’ve recently been introduced to the pacier flip “sake of love”, 2 sublime crossover sides on a gorgeous white demo that reminds us all to flip these things) Jimmy McFarland – Lonely lover – RPR 108 M- £350 (I’ve traded in my demo, but in the process acquired 2 stockers, can’t keep both so one of the pair is up. For many years, the harder format. I got hooked looking at that sky-blue label with a hint of red in it, something very appealing about it. Hollywood label, Jobete brilliance, and who was Jimmy McFarland, appears to be his only release. Light label discolouration as if it’s rubbed up against something red) Ronnie McCain – This time I’m gone – Triode 116 M- £250 (You could be forgiven for thinking this track isn’t going anywhere on the first strings at intro, but premium crossover soon kicks in on this delicious uplifting dancer, which is going to grow and grow) Debora Healey – Don't do nothing I wouldn't do – Wheelsville 104 Ex £125 (Very hard number on the label, rarely seen for sale, refreshing early femme Detroit, digits on label) PayPal as friends or add 4% please Postage: £2.50 - 1st Class Signed For £7.50 - Special Delivery (My preferred option, fully insured for 45’s over £50 unless you take responsibility?) Terrible Tom – We were made for each other – Maverick 1001 M- £300 A Wigan favourite and why not, this up tempo stomper still fills the floor every time. I understand that it was thought to be a promo only 45 until a few years ago. Here is that elusive ISSUE copy and in great condition too. Someone take it, the psychedelic label patterns doing my eyes in! As ever, sound files available on request. PM to ask any questions or reserve. Brice Coefield - Ain’t that right - Omen 10 Ex+ £350 ON HOLD (Old school Northern and Mecca favourite. Brice’s long career straddled numerous groups from 55 to the late 60’s, but he only enjoyed 2 solo outings, this being the one that matters, etching himself in the annals of our scene’s history. Not surprising when you learn this bold and full of brass mid-tempo dancer was influenced by the pen of Gary and Chester Pipkin and the arranging skills of one world class HB Barnum. Superb and on a great big green stock copy too. The scanner exposes slight grubbiness to the label, but in the hand its a vibrant green and hard to detect any blemishes) Brice Coefield - Ain't that right.mp3 PayPal as friends or add 4% please Postage: £7.25 - Special Delivery (Fully insures) Overseas on Request Cheers, Lee

Dean Parrish – Determination - Boom 60016 WD M- £100 PayPal as friends or add 4% please Postage: £2.50 – 1st Class Signed For (Insures to £50, you take the risk by this method) £7.25 - Special Delivery (Fully insures) Overseas on Request Cheers, Lee
  23. Just the one for the noo, please read description PM to ask any questions or reserve. Steinways – You’ve been leading me on / My hearts’ not in it anymore – Oliver 2002 Vg+ £175 (This superb double sider has been at the peak of its game for more years than we all care to remember, absolute rock solid dancers on both sides. The 45 suffers from use but that’s mainly a visual issue, wear to both labels and some visible marks on the vinyl but apart from some light noise on intro plays loud and clear, great for the play room) Steinways - You've been leading me on.mp3 Steinways - My hearts not in it anymore.mp3 PayPal as friends or add 4% please Postage: £2.50 – 1st Class Signed For (Insures to £50, you take the risk by this method) £7.25 - Special Delivery (Fully insures 45) Overseas on Request Cheers, Lee
