IMO it's about time the two room event was scrapped. A good D.J should be able to play right across the board and keep the crowd happy. While a knowledgeable open minded crowd can appreciate hearing soul music from all era's.

I was at Cleethorpes and It was in fact cleethorpes 70's classics that was played in the main room , not modern !. As Chalky said cleethorpes always was abit 70's orientated, and the crowd in there seemed to enjoy it. There was plenty of Northern "anthems" played later, by Ginger.............I went upstairs. Anyway this is about Desbourgh............. A couple of years ago there wasn't much 70's ,crossover & modern soul being played on the scene. Just recently there has been a resurgence of it played at venues, unfortunatly the 60's mafia seem to think that Northern soul should be exclusively 60's........ Mmm affraid that isn't the case, 70's crossover , modern is back !!

I suppose it depends on what kind of soul night it's played at. I wouldn't expect to hear it at a Northern oldies night , however played at a crossover / modern event, or even some upfront soul nights, it would fit perfectly.......
  7. How about a "Well Done".......

Here's a little gem well worth picking up...... Reviewed in this months "Soul up north" magazine and starting to get plays here and there. I heard Sean Chapman play it upstairs at Cleethorpes yesterday and it sounded great. Not completely unknown by anymeans, just waiting it's chance to get noticed........seems like the time has arrived

For me it's got to be people who Hijack other threads to promote their venue.....I suppose it's o.k in a subtle way, but sometimes it's quite blatent.......

  19. Does anyone remember a track played by Guy in the 80's by Roy Simon and the Piemen......I think it was called "What I got", it was a bit of a soul / ska crossover type thing. It may have been a cover up not sure.

One good thing about this site is that eventually, if you spend time on it, it begins to make you more mellow. When I first started posting on here I had very a blinkered view point, less so now, I don't like Bill Bush, I never have. As for White artist soul I can appreciate some of it now, I'm getting there.......... But it certainly isn't all Sh*te.........
