  1. If he is struggling with 5 records ending all at the same time..........why doesn't he limit it to 1 record at a time.................not rocket science
  2. Whenever I hear James Brown, I release the safety catch of my Browning. James Brown is funk & that is one half of the axis of evil. As a true blooded one time wearer of baggy trousers lines but be drawn in the sand whether or not one intends to build a castle.
  3. Cheers for posting again Carl. Well done for getting that sorted. Really sad to here about David.
  4. Thanks for that Carl, I'd have actually paid money to be in your studio! It does sort of confirm what I was told ie 2 drummers. Maybe a Motown 'expert' can confirm whether either they actually used 2 drummers in the 60s or whether over dubbing was prevalent at the time? Cue Jo Wallace.........
  5. Having a chat with a mate who is a musician the other night & Frank Wilson was playing in the back ground. Mate stated that he could hear 2 drummers on the track. I have no reason to assume he is incorrect. Question is would there either have been 2 drummers in the studio or would that second drummer have been over dubbed? Thanks...
  6. I'm with you on this one. Track sounds unfinished.
  7. I like it! Has an innocent charm about it.

The only patch I'm still partial to is .........the Intercity Soul Club - brilliant idea, but what a scam - maybe evan a first on the scam front for northern soul. You paid to join the soul club & got a membership patch - then for a few quid more you could apply to join some sort if inner circle - brilliant, still tickles me now.

Naffer than Mr Naff from Naffville. I've printed quite a few over the years......but was happy to get my own back with little beauty
  10. You're in a quirky mood tonight. Who's upset you? I'm discounting artists on the verge of bankruptcy. For legal reasons I say no.
  11. That was the night I fell in love with Ava The Raver from Widnes. The sound file doesn't really do justice to the atmosphere. You need this pic.....
  12. One of the speakers at Michael Jackson's memorial compared his dancing to Jackie Wilson & James Brown. Although a Jackie Wilson fan myself I wasn't aware that he was a dancer up there with the best. When I think (& thats not as often as I would like) of the premier soul dance acts I always think of James Brown & The Temps. So, was jackie Wilson that good? Obviously I've done a bit of research & haven't come up with too much on you tube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUmW_sAj4II&feature=related Hopefully soomebody will tell me who was the best soul artist dancer?
  13. I could only stand to watch parts of it. What I saw was was galling.
  14. Best of the bunch? Spare Ribs -
  15. I've actually found a couple of 'modern' instrumentals that actually work for me. Not too sure if there are many many out there, but this is a good start....
  16. It was the seals, it was amazing, they had all been trained to clap on the off-beat
  17. Quality reply
  18. Last time I heard it played out was at Billy Smart's circus. Fits in better with the circus scene than it does the soul scene.
  19. Just playing devil's advocate here............but I can think of one tune that def got re-issued & charted almost certainly from Wigan plays- R Dean Taylor.....There's A Ghost In My House Think it was also excluded from an even higher position in the charts because it was only selling on a regional basis......that was the word on the mean streets of Egham anyway

Strangely enough your positive uplifting anecdote has not cheered me up at all. I bought a record in 79/80 for £15 (which I still have) & according to Record Collector in 2008 its still worth £15. Ho Hum.

Two records that you always associate with each other & a reason. (don't think this thread will appeal to Brett ) Billy Watkins Ice Man & Susan Coleman Age Of The Wolf Both pressed up around the same time & really naff lyrics. Associate both with Yate altouigh I appreciate they were played all over. or Kiki Dee Magic Carpet Ride & Helen Shapiro - Stop.... A joint holy grail - out of my price budget as a 17 year old. Now theoretically I could acquire then, but I'm some what indifferent to them - although would still like to own them! I was never confused.

  25. Here is some info that I've copied & pasted from another site, which may prove helpful Reviews "A really entertaining read -essential stuff for any Northern Soul aficionado"...............Richard Searling "Very Readable".........Ady Croasdell of Kent Records Foreword by John Manship "In the last 34 years I've have had nothing but admiration for a man who is honest, witty, intelligent and sometimes even humble" ....................
