  1. Apart from a great interview, Dave has been a terrific help to Darrow in sorting this and a lot of other things out to help his career along. He's the reason this tour is happening and he has worked tirelessly and efficiently for that purpose to help Darrow along. The unissued material is really superb and we will include every bit of it. Contractually it has been one of the hardest ever so I'm not going to ask for vinyl release until the new relationship is fully established. We would ideally like to find the original art work (if there was any) that would spur us on to trying harder. Ady
  2. Frank is Harold's son and I seem to remember he was at uni in the UK when some of this was going on, I would have thought he would only have been involved in the very last releases by the labels if at all. I think he had an academic career until his father's age meant he helped out and finally took over at the helm. He would have been in the best possible position to get info from his dad of course. Ady
  3. All fair enough but I think the article writer should have named it "Who Were The Great Soul DJs between 1972 and 1985" as he only attended Northern dos by the sound of it in the 70s and modern dos up to the early 80s. There's been nearly three decades of soul DJs since then.
  4. Yes, same chap and solos on Hollywood, DeLuxe, Blue Candle and Saadia. Ady
  5. Yep sang out of Macon GA in those days under Bobby Smith's production banner.
  6. I just came across this while researching his Searching For Your Love on Hollywood for a Kent CD. http://jacksonville....ames-brown-dies added by site an earlier article from same paper clip The Lemon Twisters kept playing together; in 1968, they actually had an appointment at Columbia Records to talk about a possible recording contract, said Ray Love, a saxophonist who had joined the group by then. But their driver made a wrong turn on the streets of New York and they missed the meeting. "That was the end of that," Moore said. In 1969, Moore moved to Miami looking for more work. He performed with several groups there, such as Notorious Miami, which enjoyed a minor hit in 1976 with a song titled "Kill That Roach." 7. That's fine Greg, it's a long term project and I'll tell you what info I've accumulated by then too if you nudge me. Cheers Ady
  8. Hi Greg, The problem is I can't read those labels and can only hear the tunes and Scott ain't got back to me so any help would be very appreciated. Cheers Ady
  9. I'm so dozy, yes that's the one, thanks hugely. If Greg knows of any Dave Hamilton Gospel not on there I'd love to hear about them. Cheers Ady
  10. I'd love to see the papers, I enjoyed that last one, I was talking about licensing and bootlegging rather than any sociological aspects. The speakers were good and though I didn't agree with them all on everything, which ain't ever gonna happen for any of us, thought they came up with some good observations which I might have missed from being too involved in the scene. Though not total outsiders they gave that sort of view and approached it analytically. It's not for everyone but doesn't hurt anyone and won't stop the ravers who just want a good dance; like all of us at the appropriate time and place.
  11. Despite being busy with an event coming up this Friday, i was intrigued as to what news Andy had for me after he left me a mysterious phone message. On hearing he had accomplished his mission impossible I was thrilled to bits and am looking forward to exchanging words with the redoubtable lady once William Bell has been looked after properly. I think Sharon's 6 Pied Piper recordings are among the greatest bodys of work of our mid sixties soulful dance numbers and I'm not going to accept no for an answer from the minister. Maybe Mary Love and Spencer Wiggins can tell Sharon about the loopholes they used for the occasional foray into the secular world. In no particular order Putting My Heart (Under Lock & Key) which was played at Sylv's funeral because it meant so much to her. I'm Not Afraid - stunning soul that has yet to reach its full potential It's Better I'd Like To Know Don't Wait Too Long -under-rated as not that well known. Could It Be You 6 Tracks she recorded in total, all superb examples of hers and our music.
  12. There's a lot of good gospel in them there Dave Hamilton tapes. There was a site I came across that featured a lot of Dave's gospel 45s but I can't find it now. Has anyone got an address for it or anything similar? Ady
  13. It was a teaser to help in the financing
  14. https://m.screendaily.com/5041903.article Steve Coogan is now gonna be in the film; looking good!
  15. Not too likely Mark, but I'll see what's possible. William's already bringing over his manager.
  16. Trying To Love Two is definitely under consideration. I didn't realise I'd got prejudices in this area of my work, I always try to get the best set for the Cleethorpes crowd irregardless of what label the records came out on.
  17. Yep, we've finally nailed our man. The epitome of a 60s and 70s male soul singer and a mainstay of the mighty Stax records outta Memphis for so many years. He'll be wowing the crowd with a full band with three horns and two female backing vocalists and will perform a great cross section of his stompers, crossover, club soul and magnificent ballads; a show to relish. 'Happy', I Forgot To Be Your Lover', 'The Man In The Streets', 'Never Like This Before', 'Private Number', 'Born Under A Bad Sign', 'You Don't Miss Your Water', 'My baby Specialises' and more; stunning stuff! I'll be sending a proper mail out with flyers and more details next week. We do have plenty of weekend dance passes left at £59 each by cheque to 6TS Weekenders 8 Buttercup Walk Desborough Northants NN14 2RT or £61 PayPal (to cover their charges) to this PayPal address If you're currently skint or a cautious Yorkie like mi sen, send £20 deposits or £20.75 PayPal balance due 1st June We don't have any accomodation left on site but there's plenty next door at Thorpe Park a walk away. Or B&Bs and hotels in town. See you in sunny June! Ady www.6ts.info
  18. He was utterly brilliant, one of the best live soul acts any of us had ever seen; and he didn't even do Take Me Back!
  19. Me. Will you Essex Rd types be OK on Upper Street?
  20. Personal top ten; discounting the big selling classics Knight Brothers I'm Never Gonna Live IT Down Dori Grayson Try Love Enchanters I Paid For The Party Rozetta Johnson Who You Gonna Love Eddie Holman I Ain't Gonna Give Up Van & Titus Cry Baby Cry ( a different mix from the single as John stated) Robert Ramsey Like It Stands Incredibles Standing Here Crying Kenny Carter Showdown (a real grower) and finally and probably #1 Jaibi You Got Me which didn't register when we were compiling but grew on me massively over the years. Knowing the Banks family story it means even more and there's a very slightly different mix from the multi track tapes that has a very understated female backing group on it on the GWP CD Vol 2 CDKEND 326
  21. We had just released Cry Baby by Garnet Mimms on a Birth Of Soul CD and yes Dave wrote the sleevenotes (not compiled) for Sanctified Soul so he would have avoided those two at the time.
  22. Dave was indeed limited by licensing restrictions but was of course proud that all were licensed correctly and the revenues went to the right people. Some artists and writers benefited very well from the series as the sales were extremely good thanks to the concept, content and Dave's tireless work. He refused to be paid more than expenses on the 1st volume as he was worried it wouldn't break even! We are still toying with the idea of putting out a final volume as there were some of his key tracks unavailable at the time that have since become licenseable. He has written of several of these in his columns so we could even have authentic Godinese in the notes; if it does come about you'll all hear it here first. We might be accused of cashing in but Dave would definitely have been happy to see these sides out under his banner and it would give the series one last boost and hurrah.
  23. Yes Dave wrote the lot, the last volumes was dictated to me from his sick bed but he wanted to get them out. He was as proud of the series as of anything in his life.
