Thanks for keeping the suggestions coming folks, we've decided on the first six which i'll post up later in the week but we're always interested for future releases.

I & Roger Armstrong, one of the directors of Ace, were interviewed for background info, on the recommendation of jerry dammers, and didn't hear any more until we were invited to the preview which involved free booze and grub: so I went. I wasn't expecting too much, though it was super to see Ian levine at the pre-film soiree, but it turned out to be a terrific documentary with some great appearances and apt reminiscences from Georgie Fame, Eric burdon and a brilliant old mod whose name i've forgotten but compiles ska and reggae CDS now I think. There's some brilliant footage of Jimmy James and some incredible doo wop from the Chants, among others and Geno is very funny. Northern gets a quick mention though as the first doc was meant to be the 60s scene it's technically in the wrong show unless they put more in that as well. Mr Levine gets to contribute a few words too. Well worth watching but about the UK scene as it happened rather than the Northern end of it.

I actually went into Ainley's record shop in Leicester and asked for 'Heart Felt Emotion' and the girl knew what i was talking about.

The meeting went well and we should be able to do some more nights and possibly all nighters down there, but there will be a few changes, some for the worse, some for the better. Actually the few people who ignored me and wrote to the club were mainly constructive and well received so thanks for that. We'll definitely be doing Jack's on the 10th March and I'll announce other developments after the weekend, once I've sorted a few final specifics. Sorry to be a slightly mysterious drama queen, but my agent reckons it could get me into the next Big Brother.

Perhaps one of you nice people, who know which end of a computer to use, could put up the final prices every week under "This Week's Manships" or something. It would be interesting reading for us backward types.

I'm seeing the owner late tomorrow afto so please hold fire on things until then. It was a nice thought though and may come in useful yet.

Of course, it was two tickets for the 6TS all nighter and that's what you'll get at Jack's in March. I'll give out more venue details over the next couple of weeks, but it's near to London Bridge mainline and tube. Ady

Well I've had a spell of mourning, licked my wounds and am ready to face the Northern soul world again. Thank you very much indeed for all the messages of sympathy and support, I've been inundated with texts, E-mails, PMs, phone calls, phone messages and of course all these genuinely emotional postings on here. "My chiffon is wet" as Disco Tex and the Sexolettes once sang. I would like to point out that there hasn't been a change of ownership at the 100 Club for the past fifty years, except for father passing it on to his sons. Jeff who is running it now has always supported us and used to stick up for us against his father when we've had similar problems in the past. I'm meeting with him next week to see if we can salvage something from our relationship and I'm confident that we can and will; it's just a matter of how much. Whatever happens we'll definitely be at Jack's on March 10th and I can confirm that Little Johnny Weston will be appearing as one of our guest DJs. The situation with the 100 Club is quite complex, there are at least three separate matters to be dealt with and I would ask for privacy over this until things are sorted either way. Speculation isn't much use until the full facts are out. So please give only positive comments about our time at the club and show no bitterness over our sudden and unexpected departure. The next practical step I will take however will be to attend the Mousetrap R&B all nighter, tonight with Donna and anyone else who cares to join us in a mini wake at the Blackstock pub opposite beforehand. They have really bad pub entertainment and cheap beer; it's a genuine cockney/Irish/Jamaican local and an absolute hoot.

Fellow Soul Sourcers, I just sent the following out to all my mailing list, it speaks for itself. It is with great sadness and a fair amount of shock that I must tell you that all future 6TS 100 Club all nighters are cancelled for the time being and that includes the forthcoming Saturday January 20th one. The reasons are mainly due to a change of promoter on Saturday nights at the club so that those functions go on until 3 am and there is not enough time for all nighters afterwards. However the 6TS Rhythm & Soul Society is nothing if not resilient and I know Randy Cozens and everyone involved in the club in its 27 year history wouldn't want us to give up our legacy to London's soul scene with this set back. I am therefore happy to announce that through the generosity of club owner Johnny Gammel we have acquired his excellent "Jack's" club at London Bridge for the next scheduled nighter Saturday 10th March from 10pm-7am. This is the place that Johnny Timlin celebrated his 40th birthday in last summer and everyone agreed that it was ideal for our music. Since then Andy Brazil and Tony Smith II have run their successful R&B "Hard As Nails" all nighters there and they will continue to be on the first Fridays of each month. We will be aiming to fill in the rest of the year as close to the 100 Club 2007 dates as possible, though avoiding Andy and Tony's weekends. The club is a short walk from London Bridge tube and mainline station which is on the Thameslink line and easily accessible from the north and south of London. In addition there should be more 6TS events at the 100 Club as some Saturday nights from 9pm-3am will probably be available to us later in the year; so we'll still be dancing to Northern Soul on that hallowed minefield of a floor. There is even an outside chance we may get a nighter licence back but we're not holding our breath. The new Jack's nighter will feature warm up DJs up to midnight when we then kick off a new era of 6TS rare soul music with Butch, Mick Smith, myself and other top DJs to be confirmed; Keith Money will be on his rig and not available until the April 14th nighter. Also due to the cancellation of the January 100 Club nighter the warm up event earlier in the evening at the Sols Arms will also be cancelled. Of course the original 6TS club started in Covent Garden in 1979 and moved all over the capital until finally settling on the 100 Club for all nighters some two years later. We're used to being itinerants from the early days and each time we have moved, the club went from strength to strength and I'm sure that will be the case again. I'll do another mail out in a week or so, with more details of location, car parking etc, and will also put the new club address and directions and DJs up on www.6ts.info and the great Soul Source rare soul discussion group. How can you call not wanting to be bombarded by smoke a simple wish or dislike? - you obviously have never witnessed a close friend or relative slowly drowning in thier own lungs with smoking related cancer? if you are ever able to witness an active dynamic person turning slowly into a skeleton with no energy and constant pain then please do, it may change a few of your views about thinking its OK to pollute the lungs of non-smokers. Going on about binge drinkers or drug takers is a completely different issue and you are using it merely to mask the issue of effecting others with your own addiction. (Dammit - this is DonnaD not Ady - he keeps hijacking my computer )

Jacquelene Edwards, better known as sixties soul singer Jackie Day, died on January 4th in a Los Angeles convalescent home after two years of poor health. She was 68. Born in Eudora, Arkansas, on February 8, 1938, Jackie grew up in San Francisco. In 1960 she married saxophonist Big Jay McNeely and moved to Los Angeles. Around 1966-67, under the tutelage of Maxwell Davis, she recorded three singles for Modern Records, including 'Before It's Too Late', 'Oh What Heartaches' and 'What Kind of Man Are You?'. 'Before It's Too Late' was issued on the UK Sue label at the time and went on to be an underground hit on the early Northern Soul scene. As my own particular favourite that track was one of the first pencilled in when UK Kent records issued its first LP "For Dancers Only"; it closed side one of the album. We went on to issue five of her six released single sides (the last one 'If I'd Lose You' will be issued later this year) and also the previously unissued 1966 cut 'I Dig It The Most'. About the same time as these recordings Jackie teamed up with a local businessman, Johnnie Cochrane, and cut the 45 'My Naughty Boy' for his Phelectron label. The record company was new and didn't really know how to promote a record and it immediately disappeared from sight. That was until UK DJs on the Northern Soul scene picked up on it in the mid 80s and its storming Motownesque beat made it a dancefloor smash in those clubs; ultimately pushing the price tag into four figures. Incidentally Mr Cochrane's son went on to be a top lawyer and represented OJ Simpson in his famous murder trial. Jackie's next label stop was for Shreveport's Paula label where she recorded a very good single, I Can't Wait' / 'Guilty'. Finally re-uniting with Maxwell Davis she cut a final 45 for the re-formed Specialty label in 1969 'What's the Cost' / 'Free At Last'. I had the pleasure of meeting Jackie in the mid 80s and she was a charming and intelligent companion for the evening. She took me to a fish and chip pub in Santa Monica so that I wouldn't get homesick and we had a fun evening talking about her career. We even planned for her to come over to the UK to sing at the TAC Yarmouth Northern Soul Weekender but she had to pull out for personal reasons which she regretted deeply.
