Lloys & Randolph - "it Ain't"
I've got an orig JA blank - it's scribbled on as Lloyd & Randolph "It Ain't", but I've seen it as Winston Francis & Peter Austin "Your cheating heart". Killer tune. Apparently, there is another blank issue which has an instr cut with a vocal to the instrumental flip "Soul Trombone". Played this twice at SET THE TONE in London on Saturday. Killer

This England (granada) - What Is The Fast Female Vocal Tune
IN the main dancing scene, what is the fast (white?) female vocal tune. I'd like to say that I'm asking this on behalf of a friend - but in truth, I can;t get the damn thing out of my head. Oh dear.

Ohio Players - Love Slipped
Towanda Barnes' vocal absolutely destroys me on this everytime. Is it an LP only track?

Lloys & Randolph - "it Ain't"
Can anybody tell me what the instrumental piece to this is? I think it got an issue on UK coxsone (with the vocal piece to Soul Trombone). Also, is this vocal exacty the same as the piece credited to Winston Francis as "Your cheating heart"??

Set The Tone 67 - London - The Social - 26 January 2009
Just a quick note to say that SET THE TONE 67 will be celebrating its 5th birthday at The Social (off Little Portland Street, nr Oxford Circus tube) on 26 January 2008. I am guesting with Phil Enthucol - it should be another great nite of ska, rocksteady and reggae business. Entry is free - 9pm til 1am Dave Mack www.myspace.com/thecooloff

Monique - If You Love Me
What's a good price for this tune nowadays? What other cuts are there to this killer backing track? I'm in female vocal mood - Esther Phillips (Just Say goodbye) and Lilian Dupree (Shield around my heart) are going round and round in my head.....

Rare Grove Tune - Ethel Beatty On Uno Melodic
Anybody seen one of these for sale in recent years? A very cool tune indeed. I need one
-
Cassius Clay - Prince Buster?
Are you talking about a ska tune? The Buster Allstars tune "Linger On" features Buster shouting "Cassius Clay". I've seen it listed as Cassius Clay on a comp cd. I've got the JA VOTP issue (which I believe is the only legit 45 issue) - would cost you at least £200, nowadays. The blanks are boots or VOTP issues with the label scraped off.

Ska, Reggae, Rocksteady @ The Polhill Arms, Bedford
What happened to the Bluecat nites in Peterborough? Can't make it to Bedford tomorrow - sadly. Have a great nite.
-
Soul Bros Inc - Pyramid
Anybody prepared to sell me an original for £400? The machine gun-type drum roll towards the end is killing me and I need to own this 45 right away.

Off Centre Records
I've been trying to ignore it for two weeks, but can't take it any longer. My Diplomats 45 is off centre and the 'sway' gets unbearable towards the end ot the track. Anybody got any tips for overcoming this agony (apart from selling or smashing the 45!)??

The Dreaded 'skinhead' Reggae Sound
What about dubs of roots tunes where there is a 'roots' refrain, like on a million and one Johnny Clarke tunes?
-
R.i.p. Alton Ellis
I heard this news at 3pm but then got a call later in the day to say he was still in a coma with family at his side in a London hospital - either way, this is a great great shame.
-
Ethel Beatty - It's Your Love
After (15?) years of patient waiting, I can't stand it any more. Does anybody know where I can get one of these rare groove monsters?

Ja Vs Uk
Yeah, but when you've seen one, you've seen 'em all! Ha!! To my mind, having a UK is a bit like having a tape recording of the real thing. If the first issue was the blank, then I'd much rather have that...the tune that was played in Jamaica. In any case, the JA labels are far more beautiful.
-
Ja Vs Uk
Weird, you lot. I consider the UK issue as completely useless, and simply a stop gap to getting the real thing. Anybody with unwanted JA 45s feel freee to list them, and I'll see if there's any I'm after. How can anbody prefer EL Bang Bang on a crummy red & white Island to a mint red Muzik City, for example????

Just How Hard Is It To Get A Soul Bros Inc
keep me posted - I'm gonna get married if I get that tune!

The Dreaded 'skinhead' Reggae Sound
BIG BOSS - Johnny Moore is the best of all 68 reggae tunes, imo. Comes on a UK Doctor Bird but my Matador blank will kill that stone dead in about 5 seconds.

The Dreaded 'skinhead' Reggae Sound
If it wasn't danced to in Jamaica or at UK sound systems, then it won't go in my box - generally speaking. As such, I love roots reggae and early dub (although I sold up most of my 45 collection a few years ago......stick strictly to ska, rock steady and r'n'b nowadays). Next outing is 29 November at my own nite (The Cool Off) in Nottingham and then guesting at Set The Tone 67's 5th Birthday bash (London, The Social) in January 09. www.myspace.com/thecooloff

Ja Vs Uk
Ha! are you serious? I just find that completely astonishing, not least because the sound quality is always worse (dependent upon condition, of course). Christ, I'll have to see what Uk's I've got for trade!! I would gladly get rid of all my UK's today. Off the top of my head from my play out box (and I ain't got many UK's): BLUE BEAT - The Tickler, The Prophet, Only Soul Can tell, Ling ting tang, African Blood, Rum & Coca Cola, She Loves you, Golden Pen, I'm a lonely boy FAB - All my loving DR BIRD - Drop the ratchet ESCORT - Don't let me down R&B - Sampson, Peanut Vendor CRAB - My woman's love BAMBOO - Mun Dun Gu COXSONE - African Beat ISLAND - Rukumbine SKA BEAT - Looking for my baby

Just How Hard Is It To Get A Soul Bros Inc
That's exactly my problem....so I'd pay £400 now 'cos I've got the cash burning a hole in my pocket. Freddie Butler is gonna have to wait til next year!

Just How Hard Is It To Get A Soul Bros Inc
Cheers fella - but what are we talking - £500+?? I think if the moon was right and I'd had just enough red wine or whiskey I could be relieved of a few quid.... got 3 big wants, and they're all gonna cost me at some time or other - I might as well just get it over and done with!! Ha!! (the other two are Freddie Butler 'Save your love' and Masqueraders 'How')....oh well, better get myself a few more scratch cards....
