I'll be guest-DJing at the mighty fine soul club Function (https://www.clubfunction.com) here in my hometown of Malmoe, Sweden next saturday (Lin & Jamie Taylor are coming over from the UK that night to DJ as well!) and I was asked to submit an MP3-mix of some sounds that I might play for their website so I threw together the mix which can be found below. It's heavy on the 70s/80s side of things, but there are some nice 60s soul/funk gems in there as well. I actually supplied them with another mix consisting of only 60s stuff as well but I've already posted that one on this forum (link).

    Here you go:

    70S/80S SOUL/FUNK/BOOGIE MIX 2007-02-23 [download here]

Odyssey - Battened Ships - MOWEST (LP)

Skip Jackson And The Shantons - I'm On To You Girl - DOT-MAR

Swan Silvertones - If You Believe Your God Is Dead - HOB IS GOSPEL

Vance And Suzzanne - I Can't Get Along Without You - VANTON (12")

Eastside Connection - Over Please - RAMPART

Cecil Lyde - I'll Make It On My Own - ALWEST

J.G. Lewis - What Am I Going To Do - IX CHAINS

    That's it.

  2. I have the other Arnie Love on TAP 'Break Out' with the excellent 'Stop And Make Up Your Mind' and 'Heaven Really Knows' on the flip. Haven't a clue on its rarity/price though ?

That one is really nice as well, especially "Stop And Make Up Your Mind", but it isn't as rare as the other one and can be had for about £30-£40 every now and then on eBay.

Some label really should put together an Arnie Love/Arnie's Love compilation. It would turn out great. How much is there? Two 12"s on TAP with 3 songs each, then another two 12"s on Profile and one 12" on Radar. That's 9 vocal tunes and 3 instrumentals. Did he/they release anything else?

Was Ivan Neville's "Dance Your Blues Away" on COOKIE issued on a 12"? Never seen one myself, but have been told that it does exist.

How about Vance And Suzzanne on VANTON? Not impossible, but certainly not an easy 12" to track down.

And that Arnie Love 12" on TAP with "We Had Enough" plus two other tunes on it is extremely hard to find. Yes, Lotusland has turned up a bunch of copies but when those are gone that will still remain a very rare record.

  5. I dont know where to start,flexi-disc etc;i know purple hearts should be about £50 and is northern soul, but this wouldnt be in the same box and you might laugh at me..........

Not that it really matters, but the Purple Hearts 45 is easily £100+ (in-demand by garage rock / freakbeat collectors as well). I wouldn't mind keeping the Ola & The Janglers in my collection, but as I said, if you want to have it make me an offer in cash or trades and I'll think about it.

For all you swedes, that's "Clabbe" (yowza! yowza!) at the top right in the second picture... Ola Haakansson who was in this group formed the band Secret Service in the late 70s and scored a european/south american hit with "Oh Suzie"... and then in the 90s he started the independent record label which released The Cardigans hit records ("Lovefool" etc.). The lot of them turned out to be music biz people...

Just spent the afternoon in a record store basement and found quite a lot of nice 45s and LPs (mostly swedish freakbeat/garage/mod type stuff) and amongst the stack of records I brought home was an obscure 4-track gold flexi disc by swedish band Ola & The Janglers. It features a storming version of "You Don't Know Where Your Interest Lies" that I thought some of you might like to hear. I've known about it for ages, but it's proven quite hard to track down (especially in playable condition considering that it's a flimsy flexi disc and almost 40 years old!). This is the Dana Valery/Simon & Garfunkel classic given the same kind of 60s freakbeat treatment as The Purple Hearts did on their take of Jimmy Fraser's "Of Hopes And Dreams And Tombstones". I'm not saying that this is "soulful" or should be played in a northern soul setting, probably best to point that out... rolleyes.gif:rolleyes:

Touch Me - truth - devaki

    14921 refosoul

The flipside to "Coming Home", entitled "Touch Me", is even better in my opinion. Have a listen above. Their deepie "Come Back Home" is a truly phenomenal piece of music as well and one of my all-time favourite ballads.

  9. do I offer £20 or £40 or go inbetween at £30 yes.gif

Don't offer more than £10, it's not hard to find and shouldn't be expensive. A copy sold on eBay a couple of days ago for $17. There's another one on there without bids right now starting at $9.99.
