June 2013 Record Sales
FOR SOUNDFILES ETC I SUGGEST YOU VIEW THE LIST VIA THE BELOW LINK. https://karlmarthon.wordpress.com/ Hello and welcome to the slightly delayed and slightly shorter June 2013 record sales list. I should be back with a longer list in the end of this summer. In the meantime here’s a few hot records including two rare Blue Wave records 45’s, Courtial’s club killer “Losing you”, a fantastic two step dancer from ex-Delfonics singer Will Hart as well as major label rarities from Gil Scott-Heron, dutch only Teddy Pendergrass, Satyr and Arrivals. Album section holds a few nice ones like Formula One on Guiness, Ian Willson, Jayson Hoover and a great copy of Bobby Taylor “Taylor made soul” on Gordy. Also be sure to check out my discogs.com shop. Email me directly rather than ordering through that website and I can offer a 10% discount. https://www.discogs.com/seller/K-Mart Kind Regards, Karl Soul/Disco/Northern 45’s Chain Reaction - Search for tomorrow / Say yeah - Blue Wave / EX / £550 (Wonderful modern soul dancer of the highest quality. Flip is a great funky disco track not found on the Hott Ice release.) Chuck Strong - You beat me at my game - Music Mountain / VG / £200 (Great modern soul dancer! Very rare first label and with a slightly different version with added girl chorus to the later Venture release. VG with some light background noise only, fine for DJing. Second copy I’ve ever seen, other one is my collection copy.) Courtial - Losing you - Pipeline / VG+ / £100. (Best track off the LP, very tough on 45. Strong VG+ copy.) Kenny Rankin - In the name of love - Columbia / VG+ / £100. (The superior first version, killer folk/soul. VG+ with minor surface marks and plays great. Uninteresting flipside has some clicks, mainly in intro. ) Johnni Starr - I done found myself - Blue Wave / VG / £100 (Superb midtempo modern soul, first release on the Hott Ice/Chain Reaction label and even rarer. Vinyl has plenty of marks, plays ok but not great. Soundfile is from copy for sale.) Teddy Pendergrass - You can't hide from yourself / I don't love you anymore - PIR / VG+ / £50. (Classic Philly soul/disco on rare Dutch only 45. Record and pic sleeve are VG+, some light marks only, plays fine. Made $182 on Ebay earlier this year.) Dee Edwards - (I can) Deal with that - De-To / VG- / £60 (In strong VG-/VG region, plays with some light background noise in the first part then clears out pretty well. Strings version.) Gil Scott-Heron - Willing - Arista / EX / £60 (Superb dancer by the late great jazz soul master. Actually a very rare major label release.) Wee - Find me, love me / Can you boogie real hard - Owl / EX / £60 (Great soul slowie and well rare!) Wee - Stay - Owl / VG- / £40 (Rare and superb Ohio soul slowie. Vinyl is covered with light marks, plays ok but not perfect.) Will Hart - Check out your mind - Mother Earth / EX / £50 (Killer two step for the dancefloor. I closed my Saturday set on the Stockholm Soul Weekender with this.) Nelta Wyatt - Step right on to love — Ice - WIRL / VG / £45 (Sweet/crossover soul from Trinidad I think. Hard to grade this. I call it VG but it's probably as clean a copy as you'll find, however it's pressed on recycled vinyl and has some built-in crackle. Labels are re-used as well. Playback is similar to the Youtube clip.) 9th Creation - Much too much - Hilltak / EX / £45. (Classic soul/rare groove that's hard on 45.) Lee Edwards - Equal love opportunity / I found love - DT / EX / £35 (Charming Detroit lo-fi soul.) Arrivals - Wrapped up in your love - 20th Century / EX / £35 (Major label rarity only available on issue copies. Oh so good H-D-H modern soul dancer!) Satyr - Free and easy / Pity for a fool - Rca / EX / £30 (Superb Philly soul styled dancer backed with a killer sweet soul ballad only found on the issue copies.) Contours - I’m a winner - Rocket / EX / £30 (Popular modern soul dancer.) Steve Marshall - Maintain - Reynolds / EX / £30 (Great modern soul dancer with a indie disco touch.) Carol Anderson - Holding on / You boy - Mid-Town / EX / £20 (Superb dancer which still seems to be under the radar of many. Highly recommended!) Softones - That’s what love can do - H&L / EX / £15 (Superb modern soul dancer which comes highly recommended! Rare white demo, vinyl copy too.) Nobles - Jealousy - Vanguard / EX / £10 (Recommended quirky disco/soul.) Solomon Burke - Midnight & you - Abc Dunhill / EX / £10 (Definite 2 stepper. Great copy in company sleeve.) O.T. Sykes - I need somebody’s loving bad - Fun City / EX / £10 (2 stepper not found on his album. Both sides has slight label damage.) Aquarian Dream - Phoenix - Buddah / EX / £10 (Demo copy of this club friendly modern soul track which fits nicely with Ramsey & Co’s “Love call”.) Soul/Disco 12’s Terri Gonzalez - Caught up (in one night love affairs) / How good it is - Eastbourne / EX / £90 (Rare and great version of the Inner Life anthem. Beautiful copy.) Powerful People - (Little Girl) Say Yes - Epic / EX / £15 (Modern soul that sounds close to Jesus Alvarez or Willow Band.) L.R. Superstars - I just can’t say it - CHS / EX / £10 (Killer two step with a Bobby Womack feel. Second label after Budweiser.) L.A.X. - All my love - Prelude / EX/EX / £8 (Popular modern soul dancer. Nice deep sound on the 12 inch well above the styrene 7 incher.) Soul Albums Formula 1 - Hold on - Guiness / EX/VG+ / £175 (Very rare Guinness release with the funky disco dancer “Fine lady” and the midtempo “Love, love, love”. Singer is from the Mighty Ryeders. Cover has cut corner and ring wear.) Bobby Taylor - Taylor made soul - Gordy / EX/EX / £50 (“Don’t be afraid”, “Oh, I’ve been blessed”, “Little miss sweetness”. As new copy still in shrink.) Temprees - Lovemen - We Produce / EX/EX / £40 (Debut and to my ears their best album.) Temprees - Love maze - We Produce / EX/EX / £25 (As new copy except one slightly creased corner.) Temprees - 3 - We Produce / EX/EX / £15 (Nice copy!) Jayson Hoover - s/t - Mushroom / EX/VG+ / £25 (With the funky modern soul dancer “Funny games” and the midtempo “Show me some slack”. Cover just shy of EX with one creased corner and slight dirt stains.) Jackie Wilson - Beautiful day - Brunswick / NM/EX / £20 (The late Jeff Perry written album with “All because of you”, “Pretty little angel eyes” and more. Cover still in shrink, has cut out hole. Vinyl as new!) Steeplechase - Lady bright - Polydor / EX/EX / £20 (Superb copy with cover still in shrink, only flaw is cut out saw mark. “Never coming back” with Dean Parrish on vocals.) Dee Dee Warwick - I want to be with you / I’m gonna make you love me - Mercury / EX/EX / £20 (Superb northern soul album filled with beat ballads and dancers. “Do it with all your heart”, “Worth every tear I cry” etc) Dee Dee Warwick - Dee Dee - JBF / EX/VG+ / £20 (Rare 1983 indie modern soul release.
