Best Version Of Did My Baby Call
Steve Walls would kill me for this but as much as I am a Mancha fan, the Mad Lads have it here. Two very different versions but Mancha's is a bit dirgey for the hefty price tag, let's face it, the £20 option is the preferred one IMO and its not just inverse snobbery because of the cost either.Enter all Detroit die hards now (used to be one myself)

Lenny O'henry - Biog
Trying to get a bit of history on Lenny O'Henry aka Danny Cannon. I know he is recognised by beach fans and was a Vibra-Harp member with Donnie Elbert, but not much else. Anybody know anything about him, where from, full recording history other than that listed in 'soulful kinda music' and what happened to him? Were the 50s Vibra-Harps NY based ?

The Shag
Nostalgic homage to sixties beach of course but this was from the early 80s. Regarding the Shag, it's roots - at least the version we know today - were in the 1940s, developed from steps borrowed from Lindy Hopping / Jitterbug among locals and servicemen in dance halls around North Carolina particularly Wilmington, though it became the 'official dance' of South Carolina. Historians argue it goes beyond that though to even earlier times, though the Shag means different things to different folks (and I mean regionally, not the usual UK gfawr etc) and also for added confusion gets called different name in some regions.

Moses Dillard And Tex-Town Revue Band
Right, major cat out of the bag here now. Regards the Appreciations' 'It's better to cry' - it wasn't the Tempests backing them as previously thought. Was actually Moses Dillard and the Tex Town Revue. Kind of from the horse's mouth (ish).

New Carolina Beach Music Book
Rick Simmons' first book was one of a number of resources for initially informing my forthcoming piece. Was useful for the historical account of a number of artists of interest to the soul scene this side of the Atlantic and initial detective work for tracking my lot down. Really looking forward to reading his new one too. However, at risk of a wee bit of free advertising, if you are after something to really connect the rare end of the soul scene to beach and related music.....ahem.....coming your way in the next month or so..... Covers the Tempests, Bob Meyer and the Rivieras, Anthony and the Aqualads, Berkshire Seven, Athens Rogues, The Generation, Bob Collins and Fabulous Five, Greater Experience, Appreciations, Embers, Ron Moody & Centaurs, Delacardos, Novas Nine, Lost Soul, Soulmasters, Spontanes, Maurice Williams and Zodiacs and others. Lots of contributions from artists, major players - and also from folk on here! Inn't Soul Source brilliant!

Jimmy Gilford - Nobody Loves Me Like My Baby... Value?
At least a few of the wheelsville / d-town etc stuff were southern ( Memphis / Nashville) recordings. Just wondering if this was one of them maybe?

Jimmy Gilford - Nobody Loves Me Like My Baby... Value?
Loved it for 30 years! Anybody know the geography of this, is it just me or sounds kinda N.O. to me despite the Detroit label? Would have said 100 - 120
