  1. You only have to look at poopsike as an indication of how incinsistant the prices of records can be. Its an old cliche but a record is only worth what someone is willing to pay. I can never predict what will sell and what wont sell from my own list.......... Chris
  2. OK Guys, its that time again..a new swap with the theme "Records you would never part with...any era, any genre".... The rules are as follows.... 1.You must email me on chris.soul@btinternet.com (no PMs) and send me the following info...Your name and address and your email address....Please title the email "CD swap". You will get an email back from me confirming your inclusion. 2. The thread will close on Wednesday night or when a maximum of 30 people have joined the swap. 3. Before the end of the week i will email everyone the whole list of addresses then its time to record and copy your CD. 4. Send your CD with a full track listing to everyone on the list. 5. If you think you are not going to be able to record a CD and copy it 29 times sometime in the next few weeks then PLEASE DO NOT JOIN THE SWAP! 5. Wait for 29 other tasty CDs to start dropping thru your letter box and enjoy the soul! I will not be chasing anyone this time...please read the instructions and follow them...and dont PM me! OK...thats about it... I`ll look forward to the emails coming in... Chris.
  3. OK Guys...Lets go with what seems to me the majority verdict "Records you would never part with"...I`ll open a new thread...please make sure you follow the instructions contained in the new thread to the letter..... Chris.
  4. Had a PM from Cliff Steele who is going to join in the next swap...his suggestion for a thems is "Records you would never let go and are never far from your turntable...any era any genre" No decisions made yet but this sounded good to me...what do you think? Chris
  5. I`m sure my Dad says he still has his membership....i`ll have to ask him... Chris.
  6. I hate guys who order from my sales list but dont send the money then when i email them to remind them about their purchase they dont reply. I can never understand anyone ordering a record they have no intention of sending for. Meanwhile i have told other prospective buyers that the record has already sold. Really pisses me off... Chris
  7. Not a bad idea but we have done the cheapie thing before... any new ideas? I`ll go with the majority.... Chris.

I bet you have seen the Blues win a game this season though john boy? More than i have done. And, i bet it aint £40 a ticket to watch them too!! Chris
  9. PM me..... Cheers, Chris.
  10. I think its about time we did another swap!!!!! I`m off work all next week so i`ll have time to sort out the addresses etc. OK, this time we need the first 30 people, I`ll open a BRAND NEW THREAD next Monday...a week from now...the first thirty people to PM me with their postal and email addresses will be included in the swap. All we need now is a theme..... i`d like to keep this more as a connoseiurs/ crossover/70s/midtempo type swap and hopefully include the likes of Sean H, Jerry Walsh, Bully, Tony Turner, Alan Pollard, Val, Plumby etc.....but of course new people are always welcome... So suggestions on a theme????????????? LP tracks (again), lesser played motown, your top rarities, your dream DJ spot..... ???? Please do not email or PM me about the swap until after i have opened the thread on Monday 28th April...you will not be included if you contact before. All we are doing now is selecting a theme for the swap..... Chris. ps, if you have no intention or no ability to copy 29 Cds, put them in an envelope with a stamp on and post them within the next 4 weeks or so....DO NOT JOIN THIS SWAP!!!!
  11. I was told some ten years ago that the states were dry! look at the amount of big ticket records that are turning up on sales list auctions on a disturbingly regular basis ........... what you need to undestand that despite the obvious disadvantages, the advent of Johns book and ebay have also brought out a lot of records from peoples collections etc plus there are now people in just about every US city actively looking for Northern soul records, thats why more records have come out in the last few years. going to the States looking for records is completely different now to what it was ten years ago. Back then it was more like looking for hidden treasure. These days its more like negotiating a deal with US dealers who know as much (sometimes more) as you do! Chris

plus Sam Evans is without doubt one of the best girl dancers ever in the last 38 years. ............... John, Agree with your point about Sam, whats more she can dance to every genre too, not just to one style of soul. cant comment on your other point as i was only 3 at the time of the first Mecca nighters! Great story though... You coming up on Saturday? Chris
  14. Calm down...no one is offended or gettin mad...!! Just honoured to be the topic of a debate on soul-source actually! I sold a mates copy from my April list at £100. Its a fair price...I only got one call on it....figured i could maybe sell another in the near future..... I enjoy selling records i like. Chris.
  15. Donald Lee Richardson- Palm of your hand ............ Jez, The only time i have ever played this was when I DJ`d in L.A...a good crowd, up for dancing but didnt know the difference between an oldie/newie/crossover etc... I have spun the b-side "I have learned my lesson" a few times at the greayhounds recently...Now thats what you call a double-sider! Chris
  16. Cliff, Probably was played at Bretby, i was too young an impresssionable in those days to listen to early 60s midtempo Detroit! Refosoul still seems to be down...unless i`m doing it wrong. Your recomendation is good enough for me! Cheers, Chris.
  17. Cheers Guys... Million dollar question "Is it any good"? Two million dollar question...."When is refosoul coming back"! Chris
  18. Freddie Butler on Samo "I`m not afraid". Is this the same take as his Kapp LP track...? Current value please? Cheers, Chris.
  19. I gather that the copies that he had printed before the block was put on the book were eventually sold at one of the big US record fairs, hence a few copies have found their way into the UK. .................. I bought my copy on the West coast around 1992...it was definatly 92 or 93 as it was the second time i went to the States with Dave Ingle and we only ever did the west coast....never went there for another ten years... Still got the book, came across it the other day actually...I`d pay most of those prices now! Chris
  20. I find that playing "forgotten" oldies doesnt seem to go down that well...probably due to the fact that a majority of punters at soul nights (well the ones i tend to go to) these days never actually went to any serious northern venues in the old days! They seem to be more of a "Johnny come lately" crowd who want to hear todays current spins...mainly 70s "easy to get to know ya" type tunes... While we are on the thread, some of my fave forgotten oldies I`d love to play.... The Ethics-Look at me now Donald Lee Richardson- Palm of your hand Volcanos-Storm warning Jodi Mathis-Dont you care anymore Chris
  21. Worth one last look...plenty of goodies still available!
  22. Now updated....and some prices reduced! Chris
  23. I'd love to read Jon Andersons greatest three hits.. .......... I love talking to John about his finds, and have passed many a happy and pissed up hour with the great man. I could write a book on my experiences but John could write a whole encyclapedia and he has such a great way of telling the tale too... Chris.
  24. I will update this list later... Chris
  25. please email all orders to chris.soul@btinternet.com Cheers, Chris
