  1. To make a bit easier for your friends I would start looking at the weekly Blues And Soul issues they were the ones I held onto after getting rid of all the others and the ones i think had a menion of J.R Bailey on the cover indicating a article inside hope i have not started a wild goose chase . The weekly ones did not run for long maybe a year .
  2. Be very interested to find the truth behind all those different recordings and if Jr Bailey was responsible for them , seem to recall a interview/ article in Blues and Soul at the time of his 70s lp which I would have thought would give some details of his past recording etc. sadly I binned all mine years ago. Strange that a artist such as J.r. who had a long career using his real name as a artist ,songwriter, producer and also a member of The Cadillacs has little information on the web about him .
  3. Nothing to add about who Jr Bailey was but the picture that posted of Chuck Wood was also published with great clarity in the book '' The In Crowd '' . Got to add though if Jr Bailey is half the singers he is purported to be he was a mighty fine singer with a great range and also a very busy one with his songwriting, production and background work and also his solo work.
  4. Al Capone was also a big fairground sound in the late sixties/ early seventies, great memories of the fair walking round the fair wearing Dr Martens, .Braces Fred Perry.and cropped hair etc. with the music playing and the smells of the food vendors.
  5. Shotgun Wedding was always played at the fair around my area , knowing the fair lads reputation with the ladies back in the day maybe a precautionary message been sent
  6. Saw her in Sheffield 1984 she was brilliant and a night to remember for ever. Heard '' Dust My Broom '' in the local the other night which was a surprise , great record. R.I.P. Tina.
  7. Just to add I have come across a few covers of Blues and Soul on the net early seventies which state American edition includes Stars and Stripes and on others it stated the price of the two mags separately, probably muddied the waters more I know could it be they were sold separately in the states at one time and then just amalgamated for the U.S editions
  8. Would prefer if they were left as they are , they are the work of the creators the producers etc. thousands of records at the right tempo to go at.
  9. Bit off topic about djs pitching up but I am certain I once read a article with Bobby Eli the writer/producer who said the James Bounty tune was speeded up from the original recording always loved this track but certain elements of it do seem too fast background vocals etc.
  10. Been listening to Latasha for a few months on YouTube she is good and the vid below is a great revamp on Mary Wells
  11. Think the Stars and Stripes as the Wikipedia link is a totally different publication as you state .
  12. Seem to be no mention of this mag on the internet for sale or any other mention all I can find is on the covers of early seventies issues the price of Blues and Soul is on the cover price plus the price of Stars and Stripes , I always thought it said incorporating Stars and Stripes sure it did at one time. I have no copies anymore all went to landfill years ago so cannot check myself. The cover of Blues and Soul also says International Music Review which indicates it was distributed world wide , maybe Stars and Stripes was just a subtitle for the U.S. market , someone out there will know for sure.
  13. Never seen a copy myself and always wondered about it mainly due to the fact it always used to state on the mag "Blues and Soul " incorporating Stars and Stripes when I first started buying the mag around 1971 and for a long time after , be interested to find out a bit about the mag myself.
  14. Fair enough , Have a Carver cut it is not frowned upon unless people out there know the legalities better than me. Plenty of companies offering this service.
  15. Is it a criminal offence to play it out on a Cd , great unreleased tracks like these need there place on the sun just play it on Cd .
  16. Whatever next '' Tribute bands ''
  17. Agree totally, the first couple of seconds also remind of Phillip Mitchell's ''Just The Beginning " which is not surprising given the writing credits
