This is a very rare record to find in such great shape too . Gil Bernal was a session musician in the 50's and played tenor sax for the Robins/ Coasrters before King Curtis took over . He had only a few releases in his own name on Spark and RCA in mid 50's At 19 he was playing tenor sax in Lionel Hampton Orch ., and sang on a few tracks for him In addition to playing with the Coasters Bernals main claim to Rock n Roll fame is his tenor work on Duane Eddy's original " Rebel Rouser " in 1958 Until recently this was an un-documented release from this artist . Hi Ian nice touch indeed . I hadnt much idea of value although still say not an easy one to find . Arkwright found a vg copy up for sale on hear when doing a search for $150 although what somebody asks for and what they get can be two diffrent things for sure . I put and extra £20 on due to the condition it is in great shape , if no takers happy to put back in the box . note to self have a good look around just incase eh ! Steve H

A nice result for sure there hope it went down well with the crowd?. First person I heard play was Marc Forrest a few years ago now when he did a spot at Hideaway Club Manchester , raced up to the decks to see what it was . Straight on the net when I got home and was lucky enough to find a copy and not really seen that many copies over the years

The last time I spoke to people about the Hideaway they said it was not packed and numbers where low, and this wasnt the first time it has been mentioned so strange that you make conflicting comments about numbers in . As for the other 2 venues I aint ever heard of them so is it just the surrounding area where they are travelling from. I say this as nobody has ever said to me whilst away come to this place or have you heard of this place . I aint on here to diss any venue I am pleased that you think there is plenty of venues . I am afraid I like me nighters and thats how I feel it should be not a venue where I travel 200 + round trip for something to finish at 2pm at the latest so soul night as such is of little use to me . The Hideaway was in the day a terrific club that sprung up just when needed and led the way for quite a while and pulled the RrnB scene and the people who liked that genre together and gave a purpose and focus on what could be played and I take my hat off to it for that . I dont think it does that now hence the comment " had its day " . I am sure the people who go there regular and the three promoters ( who I know well and have no gripe with ) are still happy with each night it does , its just not for me these days . Also when you say travelers to these Manchester clubs do they travel to others as that was always something that stood out to me , when we used to go to diffrent venues there was an awfull lot of faces from Hideaway that never showed anywhere else which lead me to believe that that was the only place they went . No support for other clubs at the time . I think the scene has moved on since those heady days . You of course might dissagree and thats Ok and I am sure you will !! I didnt mention nighter in my post which was just a small comment looking back to a time when No more doggin' was just one of several places to go to hear good RnB , however , you failed to mention that the three where only soul nights for a better word as well in your post. see yah round

Glad to hear it , things fine this end too . I just feel that going to a specific RnB room once every 4 - 6 weeks is poor show. I know there is apathy around but seems to be running very deep lately and yet all I get is loads of people coming up to us and moaning there is no where to go figure that one out I cant .

Hi Davie how's things Thats true just assumed people would think I meant all nighters as not much point travelling large distances for a place that is only open a few hours and closing early doors then stuck with what to do for the rest of the night . Fair point about No more doggin' though but at least there where other places to go Davie where as now very few RnB rooms dont you agree ?
