  1. This fortnight's auction just finished: Fortson & Scott, just short of £2.5 k
  2. Yes, it came as a great shock and a very sad and untimely demise. Another top bloke was Dave, the west mids adopted him good and proper, would put his head in most places, and an avid vinyl collector. If Mick Smith happened to be in town for a record fair, Dave would show up. Had a picture one time of him, Mick and Dave Rivers, at Keele all nighter, proper suvverners reunion!
  3. Not seen Gary since the last time i did some record swaps with him...probably 2004, i got a Connie Stevens demo off him " Tick Tock " which of course has had some action in that time. Very knowledgeable bloke, and very likeable. I was looking this afternoon, at the playlist for for the last All Nighter at Trentham Gardens ( which i compiled - its on Dave Rimmers site ), he and Jordi Ripolles did a two hour set together...its amazing what was big back then, crossover wise. I looked to see if that had been included, but sadly not.
  4. Gary Holyman used to have a different version of Nolan Chance,on an acetate, im sure, deffo remember him playing it to me, getting on for 20 years ago now

  7. Frank Elson is the main man to speak to. Frank told me, probably over 12 months ago now, that he retains a recording of the show. I know that Dave Taylor also has a copy of it, aams he remembers taping it when it was first broadcast.
  8. Yes, the book is back in stock, there were unforseen issues with the company manufacturing the book but as far as im aware it can now be purchased again, via the website. Contact Anglo American for current updates.👍
  9. I honestly dont think there us anyone alive with even the remotest notion of compiling such a thoroughly documented book, dedicated to a single year at the casino. As regards the 7 other years, thats been covered in his previous hardback print, The Wigan Casino Years. Tim attended the very first all nighter on September 23rd 1973, 48 years down the line, i wonder how many of the 700+ who attened alongside him, can remember that event, who are still alive?. Tim is old enough, thats all that needs to be known. The book would be of importance if it wasnt worth buying, writing a book of this nature in such as short space of time demands an accumulative mind of an extraordinary genius. As of today, Tim is the only person to have compiled two literary publications on the subject that are not viewed as personal journeys, but overviews of exactly how it was, what was played when, by whom and how the scene, and in particular the Casino, as the flagship, gained notoriety on an international stage.
  10. 1975... the year that broke the mould! 12 months that saw the musical direction of the scene broker two different styles, acceptable to many, hard to swallow for some. 208 pages determining exactly where allegiances would lie...fully documented, many photographic items never in print before, along with media coverage of those heady times and the advertising to go with it.. the banality, the fun and the vociferous voices.. a year in the life of the devotee to the ever changing, constantly strange world of Northern Soul...and its Modern bedfellow! Tim Brown, puts it all into sharp focus and perspective. The real world through the eyes of one of the scene's foremost experts on not just the vinyl but the history as a whole. This will make a fascinating read for any collector and a momentous year end addition to your personal library! Official Description: The first ever detailed look at a specific year in the life of Northern Soul focuses on its most important year. It was the year when seventies soul was embraced to sit alongside traditional sixties stompers in all dancehalls and venues such as Cleethorpes Pier and The Ritz, Manchester as all-dayers took a hold on the scene. Wigan Casino and the Blackpool Mecca remained as twin towers of the nightlife however. Television, radio and newspapers were fascinated by the ultimate underground music scene and this book analyses their interest. Tim Brown, author of "The Wigan Casino Years" details all the events and records that make 1975 Northern Soul`s most important year, many of which are recounted for the first time. A definitive account of a year in the life of Northern Soul, richly illustrated in full colour. Check out the Anglo American website (link below) for full details of how to purchase https://www.raresoulvinyl.co.uk/ or email : raresoulvinyl@btconnect.com Or call: 01706 818604
