  10. nice playlists!...quality tuneage again and another venue on my list of want-to-do's right on about big don's rebellion..loved it for years..you can see why it could have been covered up as little anthony?
  11. that's a great spot there kev,..i was racking my brains with that one..i knew it sounded familiar..so i should now, it's in the playbox!
  12. seeing these tunes lined -up..is every bit as good as reading them here every month..it was a honor to be on the dj list and to meet you all...what a great bunch of people, some truly unheralded but totally devoted record collectors who love to tell it like it is and awesome collections you certainly have! what was played by you guys is nothing short of breath taking..and judging by what i and many others already know...this place will not only endure, but will go from strength to strength as the word spreads...the destination folks, is north for serious shades of soul..a massive well done to PAUL, IAN, KEV & PAUL,..THANKYOU SO MUCH and KEEP UP THE BRILLIANT WORK!!
  13. hi pete, ive deciphered what the second " unknown" is on the tape: it's "one man's leftovers" by 100% aged in proof on hotwax records
  14. never doubted your credibility for a minute! top bloke!
  15. shock - horror!!... ....not sylvester??...
  16. One of Chicago's finest son's, possessed with a talent for writing and performing great songs...r.i.p. william butler....forever on The Right Track.
  17. crackin' tunes there andy, more than enough to keep the dance floor buzzin' n' happy...lookin' forward to the trip on may 2nd, very much!
  18. as with a large proportion of soul lovers in the u.k. LINDA JONES, blessed with the greatest voice...EVER! TOBI LARK possessed an amazing range as well..TY KARIM'S voice was also unique..then there's BRENDA HOLLOWAY, TAMI TERRELL & KIM WESTON.....GLADYS KNIGHT as well.....i can't relate to ARETHA....i honestly and genuinely believe the understanding, people have for her music.she just dosn't do it for me sadly,...maybe it's just her music, not the persona..or is it that she isn't immediately associated with the northern soul scene, whereas the others mentioned have been duly recognized ( without their actual awareness at the time ) for creating some stunning records that have fitted our purpose.

    dulux?.....
  20. no tobi lark or linda jones then??.....nuff said..
  21. kev, the extra verse is also in the kim weston anthology, released by universal here about 8 or 9 years ago, both takes of the song are on the double cd.
  22. pretty much certain there is a collectors market for the early releases, weather goldmine/soul supply or kent...so many now long since deleted. a lot of the hip-oselect stuff is limited edition as well, including the motown box sets...the 1966 item attracted enormous attention and sold out in double quick time..never to be re-issued,..that's just a few years ago,..since then it's value has gone silly on evilbay.....so, as i said, there has to be a market...tim brown still has a fair few cds..of course they're all out of press so they have value now...i bought northern soul of los angeles vol.1 about 4 years ago and that set me back £30.
  23. you people are a mine of knowledge....this always amazes and impresses me!
  24. i know for certain that some MCA u.k. re-issue's have " you baby " on the B-side...apologies geoff..got it the other way round by mistake...Len Barry wrote it and sang it first..Jackie's is the cover version.....and the best known. i may be wrong, but even some of the brunswick issues may initially have had " you baby " on as well.
  25. This is very sad news, a truly great and prolific british songwriter...and singer of note. Ironically, i have only recently located a copy of " You Baby " for Mr. Taylor to put back in his collection...a tune, well spun in the zenith of both Wigan & Cleethorpes..and borrowed of course, by Len Barry as the original B-side to u.k. Brunswick release of "1-2-3". R.I.P. JACKIE TRENT.https://youtu.be/fbckScsgj7o
