  1. Because she sings it like an old lady would if performing in front of a group of pensioners in an old peoples home no, I quite like it but the production is sparse compared to Little Anthony
  2. You probably did discover it mate, I never heard it til the 80's. I claim to have discovered the vocal though
  3. Yeah it is mate, just thought we were supposed to shout UK produced items only. Dave Godin tipped that Doris Willingham record for ages, she is 'Doris Duke' I think
  4. Awful. Is that "The Beautiful Place" on Diamond?
  5. Think thats an American recording - came out on a US Jayboy, which looks weird
  6. Pete S replied to a post in a topic in Record Sales
there's a guy who advertises clothes, t shirts etc on one of the banner advertisements on the site somewhere
  7. A big, big beat ballad - obviously influenced by the Righteous Brothers. This guy is "Johnny" from Frankie & Johnny.
  8. Yeah it is, but I never heard of it/heard it played anywhere...yet it was on an old emidisc
  9. A lovely mellow (soul) instrumental on UK Coxsone
  10. Where the hell did this come from??
  11. An absolutely fantastic unreleased (in the 60's) track from a Phil Spector compilation (later on the box set)
  12. This one came out on UK Pye and although it's not exactly Walter jackson, it's a good attempt
  13. One minute every hour was a massive record at youth clubs and discos everywhere! Must have been popular as it got booted.
  14. The only thing to tell is that I used to run this magazine (beginning in 1988) called Beatin Rhythm which for the first 8 or 9 issues only reviewed and discovered UK label Northern Soul - I never made many issues, maybe 300 of each, but loads of the people who bought it used to send in their discoveries and if you look back, you'll see tons of todays collectors items mentioned for the first time in there...honestly. Mick sent me Ketty Lester, he discovered it, I reviewed it (I think the review says something like 'must be worth around £6 at the moment') and put it on that issues tape, next thing, someone's playing it covered up and a year after that it's massive. So thats the only story I know about that one.
  15. Oh Baby comes from California I think...great track...pounding I think is the word
  16. Couple here from the Fontana label
  17. NOTHING is better than Little Anthony! I'll post a few MP3's up of some maybe not so well know British things which are ok, obviously a lot will know them but many won't
  18. The big bouncy production is really cabaret - the vocal is sub Tony Christie. Best part of that record is the run out.
  19. You reckon? I'd rate this among the worst British records ever made!
  20. I did the sleevenotes but when they came out they spelled every other word wrong! It was remedied later on..
  21. Somebody please take Sonny up on his offer...must be loads of stories there. If I still did a magazine I'd be right in. You got any records left Sonny? were you 'The Nomads' or do you know who they were? Do you know the Phyllis Brown track Oh Baby on Rainbo? best wishes Pete
  22. Piccadilly... Brilliant sleeve notes on volume 2 as well
  23. Off the top of my head I don't remember but it's a horrible ballad
