  1. Having not learned how to interject comments yet, I apologise, but let's see: Cats Eyes - yes of course it's crap but it brings back memories Love Hustle - horrendous Ral Donner - one of the records that made me pack in Wigan Coloured Man - sounded good blasted out loud The Whole Thing - never liked it, good to dance to though Holly St James - wasn't keen at the time, grew on me Five & A Penny - awful have to take you up on Afternoon Of The Rhino though, not many instrumentals sounded as powerful as that and it was absolutely perfect for the time.
  2. Golden Gate records were a third of the people who got 'the haul' with John Manship
  3. I have a spare copy of this now if anyone wants it: BYRON LEE feat KEN LAZARUS - THE RECORD - JAMACAN SOUL LABEL condition EX- £35 fantastic version of HB Barnum/Ben E King...there's a soundfile up somewhere cheers pete
  4. That's called Beautiful Dreams and it's on Ember. GREAT RECORD! The reason she's going on about her eyes is because I think the line before mentions tears in them. There's a superb colour promo film of this which gets shown now and again on retro 60's programmes where's she's dancing with this playing in the background. I've actually got an alternative version of Beautiful Dreams which has a bloomin theramin playing over the top of it (Precision cassette version)
  5. Mike Vickers - On the brink - UK Columbia. Covered up as Boogaloo Investigator by Matt Parsons Orchestra. Theme from The Wednesday Play 1966. Great track! p.s. I am honoured at being called an oddball, it beats c*nt
  6. There's definitely no 70's Ali, just 50's and early 60's - but thank you anyway
  7. I've never seen one like that! I had a Spanish one with a pic sleeve and I think it played the US version.
  8. The Buckinghams presumably?
  9. I've got a pretty huge list of records to go through and there are literally hundreds of obscure things which look like they might be interesting - could anyone who knows a good deal about r & b possibly help me go through these and mark off items? Looks like a fair bit of work - an hour or two maybe. I don't want to send millions of copies out so I'd just better send it to the couple of people who offer, if any do, will put a message below saying subject closed if that happens thanks a lot

Oh God, I got Mick Smith a copy of that off a list sent to me for about $50...
  11. Just going by what I remember - I never heard the US version til I bought one in about 1980
  12. Oh you lot are just too easy to wind up, I'm going to take the dogs a walk and by the time I get back I expect to receive loads of abuse for having no taste
  13. The Carstairs makes the Four Vandals sound like a classic
  14. OK. I really don't like it. I think I am prejudiced against it for what it stands for as well but I do honestly think it is a poor record with no redeeming features. Like George Lemons and Larry Houston.
  15. That's better than The Carstairs.
  16. Mick Smith told me to tell you he thinks it's rubbish as well...
  17. I'm not joking - it's all down to personal preferences and I hate that record, the vocal is horrible.. it's just unlistenable. Just cos you bought it in 1973 on a pressing, which those pink ones are, doesn't mean I have to like it does it? I bought In Orbit in 1973 but I don't like it now...
  18. Didn't say it wasn't soul, just said it was rubbish
  19. Definitely Carstairs. I am unanimous on that one.
  20. I checked and I do have it - and it's in really nice nick!
  21. I should leave the 'decent nick' bit out if I were you I think I've got Derrick Harriott - I haven't got Owen Gray anymore but that's not a hard one to find. Very early that, 1960 recording...
  22. No, I'll still do them, no problem, I just wanted to get away from them for a bit because they were taking so long to do, but I'll never turn down an order I'll PM you with the complete list, there's a new one, "DANCERS" which I don't think I listed on here
  23. Well I bought the book off him buy it now, told him it'd be about a week til I had money in paypal, then after about a week he left me negative saying I'd promised money and never paid. So me being me, Iinstead of asking him why, I just sent him some abuse and left him negative feedback in return. He then writes and apologises saying it was meant for someone else and he'd sent my book anyway - which he had, it arrived the day after that. So it was a misunderstanding but not really my fault...for a change

I told him I'd sell him a black label one for £6
