On a personal note, I am not a fan of seventies plus soul. In fact I find most of it abhorrent. Let me finish. But the" you're so good to me " side, along with Joseph Webster and the Hamilton Movement tunes, are just on another level from all the other 70's stuff that I've ever heard. If only there were more tunes of this QUALITY I could quite easily become a big 70's fan.... Unfortunately there aren't, but these three tunes always get me on the floor. Fantastic Not just me either, I've caught quite a few hardened 60's men rushing to the dance floor when these tunes are played. ps the other side of the Major Williams isn't in the same ball park. Just my humble opinion.
  2. I saw this and the seller should be shot. The description was worded to deceive. And the original never sold for 3k on Manships, about £1300 I think. I feel sorry for the buyer.

OOOOOO I wish. It's actually an optical illusion. If you look at the picture long enough after a while you can see a boat behind the girl.

  14. BIZARRE!! Where they from? and how the hell do they produce that big Detroit sound with a couple of guitars and a trombone? Or is it all coming from the Technics 1200 that the guy at the back is playing about with? And if it is whats on the turntable?
  15. Just been listening to that Frank Popp - Hip Teens 45, and think that backing track is awesome. The intro is Edward Hamilton's I'm gonna love you, but then it changes, anybody know where the rest of it comes from ?

  18. Mega rare 45 that is Grant. Richard Watt from Carlisle has it and always plays it for us when he DJ's for me at the Burnley Allnighters. Top drawer tune.

  20. Mik, I'd just like to say that I have agreed whole heartedly with everything you have written on this subject. And you have expressed yourself very eloquently, and so much better than my feeble attempts..... I look forward to meeting you at Middleton, and would be pleased to buy you a drink.... Best regards, Phil.
  21. Many thanks that's brilliant.
  22. Can anyone help me find the link to the Keb Darge interview that was on this site a while back. I've just got a new pc and I've lost all my favourites. Thanks, Phil.
  23. Yes Dave, I had one that was mint and not a blemish on the label either. I think it came from Soul Bowl, £150 if my memory serves. The run out was very small and the matrix numbers were really neatly done. Don't have it now, think it may have gone to John Manship with a box full when I was selling up..... I didn't realise that the issue was rarer, that's why I paid so much for the demo. Great record though, must be a contender for best sax middle eight ever. Best, Phil.
