Mixture Of Unknown 70S, Rnb, Deep Soul And Funk
BATAAN - WOMAN DONT WANT TO LOVE ME ON EPIC - M- WLD DEMO £45 Classic x over with a latin tinge. Seems to be gaining in poularity. Very easy to see why THE CHELL-MARS - ROAMIN' HEART - JAMIE - M- (XOL) WLD £50 Grinding RnB on this profilifc label - not heart much about this superb trqack VAN SCOTT - DELICIOUS PTS 1 AND 2 - ON VAAL - M- £80 Cool lesser known late 70s modern cut from Carolinas. JOE WASHINGTON AND THE WASH - LOOK ME IN THE EYES - WEST SOUNDS - M- £150 Fabulous (and possibly overlooked?) string laden deep soul. Beautiful arrangement on this lesser known side - flip is a cracking deep funk party track MASTER OF SOUL - SAD FACE - OVIDE - M- £10 Bargain cheapie on this excellent label LLOYD PERRY - ITS ONLY BEEN ONE DAY - MIC M- £150 Another lesser known (early) 70s track with a funky edge. Furious horn led dancer that seems to have escaped most . Could be a goer in the right hands. THE DUVALS - WHAT AM I? ON BOSS -VG+ £70 Very early 60s track, slightly 'do wop' feel on the vocals with raucous sleezy horn hooks. Could go down well in the more open minded clubs, say in Berlin or Russia. Finewine spin. Great dancer, lesser known. Its hard for me to make mp3s at the moment but i can do phone hearings aussming you are in a similar time zone. If not ill try to accomodate.

Sir Guy
Been seen on a few soul playlists of late. Been a funk staple for a fair while. Great record.

Mayer Hawthorne
im no traditionalist . open minded music lover who buys most black music genres from 50s upwards, yes. the point being made was i thought it was a gimmick to cover up the weak music. and to be fair it sounds like if 'it wasnt soul' it would be something else which is a major downfall. its almost like 'im doing this 'cos i think its uber cool' . soul minus the soul. the fact he hails from Detroit is neither here nor there. If anything he should be better positioned to do a better job.

Mayer Hawthorne
hehehe im not knocking him for doing what he's doing. takes a lot of dedication to get to where he has i just feel that the music is pretty weak in the scheme of things and if you are going to cover something as firing as love is alright then do a decent job of it. im guessing some people who buy this will not even know the phil la soul version. just buy that instead or the cbs one for 50p. when someone knocks up a heart shaped record you have to enquire as to why. became obvious on listening.....something has to sell the record if its not the music. can think of 1000s of ways to spend 7 quid better. cant really see anyone playing this stuff out ?? bamboos version of tighten up seems to be getting airings
-
Mayer Hawthorne
my 2 pennys worth: MH stuff is as weak as a 2 day old asthmatic kitten with 1 lung and 3 legs. it badly needs putting out of its misery. This is what happens when people (white or otheriwise) get grand ideas well above their talent limit. that said, like most pap, im sure it sells very well. There are some excellent new bands/artists...imho he aint one of them. 10/10 for getting off his arse and making it happen.... 2/10 for weak content. a great tune murdered.

Tighten Up Instrumental Being Played ?
the swinging gates version - a bit too drum heavy for the NS crowd - discuss. seems a very popular version at the moment in the more open minded soul clubs.
