If Mark played it as Charles Diamond and the Inspirations then it was a cover up name as this Inspirations isn't related to the Joey Jefferson group. There are two takes though, the one Butch has and the one Tim Brown has/had, same group different lead. Both takes are out on CD, the Philly cd's from Kent and Goldmine/Soul Supply.

My understanding is that acetates are cut which get negatives made, which are in turn used for the actual vinyl pressing run. I think these copies are not made to be played and this is where the stuff about not playing them comes from.I also believe the sound deteriorates.
There is a couple of videos showing the whole process on YouTube, one with Ron Murphy and he shows what the they do with the acetates etc, electroplating and making the stampers.
-
Not you, did I quote you? No didn't think so.
I think most of us know the difference between an acetate and a carver, besides none of us are talking about carvers just you  again i think we all know they aren't a promo or a demo disc. Acetates are for reference, to hear how a take sounds, they might not have been intended to be used for 30 plus years but many have been and still are being used, proper authentic metal acetates.

-
Many have original 60's acetates that have been played and played and played and they are still fine, including top DJs who have played the acetates on all kinds of set ups. If one gets ruined then there must be something seriously wrong with the set up.its. Complete fallacy that they are useless after a few plays.

Yes, you're right Chalky, I wasn't talking about big mainstream do's or even smaller working men's clubs types of events, I've completely given up on those nights. I suppose I was really talking about events that aren't 60's 'northern soul' per se.
With you there pal.
I guess Russ (talking the good old days for a second) misses the nights when those that moved the scene forward were the mainstream.
I'd like to hear Butch more over here, given the freedom to totally do his thing. Ady Pountain is another that I always love to hear. Now he is one who puts quality first and foremost.
-
Think there was another cd with the one you bought Mark, the top one.
I've the 5 cd set one, I didn't get a second 5 set one to go with it though. I know of another 5 setter but not from same seller. There's a three set one as well. But by and large there is very little in any of them unknown, all the big tunes from Stafford.

Mmmmm, I’m actually finding this thread more interesting by the minute….. So here goes with two more peneth from me……
Nev,
Chalky is what they call a ‘Proud Yorkshire Man’, he calls a ‘Spade a Spade’, and ‘says it how it is’…….we down south call that rude
He’s actually quite ‘cuddly’ in real life
Chalky,
“ey up, thar knows what thar can do dunt yer”…..probably upsets some of us ‘Southern Softies’….We don’t even know what ‘Thar’ means!
…..and that’s the difference between ‘North’ and 'South’
All the best,
Len
P.s - If Nev is from 'The North' please don't anyone mention it!
Eh up Len.
Thar means "you" up t'north
Just to clarify I wasn't being rude, I was simply expressing an opinion about DJ's and what I've liked to hear since I was a young un on this scene and carried forward to this day. Neither did I quote you, I made the comment in post three so why Nev had to wait for three pages to pick up on it and say I took the topic downhill after just two replies is beyond me, maybe he has other reasons aside from this topic?
Yes I get to the point and don't speak with a fork tongue, as you say I tell it like it is. Maybe if others did the same things would be a lot different and for the better instead of cryptic posts.
Anyone who knows me knows I am not rude.
Anyway I've enjoyed he topic, some top lads mentioned, many who did make a difference and I can certainly understand Russ' and others wanting a taste of better days when the scene is so oldies orientated these days with very little imagination except in venues where those that attend are definitely in the minority.
Come the revolution we might get back to those kind of days when Dj's had imagination and a record was played because of its quality not its price tag.
Oh and Nev is from further north than me
