  1. Depends what time it is. Certain times when everyone off their tits you can play anything and they will dance, especially oversees. Play it over here at an all-nighter and I bet it clears the floor at 4am in the morning. Don't get me wrong Adam, I think the record is fantastic, just I guess we have different ideas of what a dance record is.
  2. If Lifeline was to get a weekender again it would be back to how it was at the Bell. We'd love to do the same at the Stables but just not possible when you have a venue as big and most of the nighter crowd these days want 60's dancers.

Dunno if this has been posted? Guy Hennigan's Ernie Andrews Neither Will I cover up from Stafford....
  4. There is and it has been done, Lifeline did it. It had the finest DJ's in UK at the time and many from Europe as well. As I said we are still looking for a suitable venue and if we can find one then Lifeline Weekenders will return.
  5. From Steve Propes and Galen Gart's "LA R&B Vopcal Groups"
  6. Frank Wilson version of Tell me..... https://soundcloud.com/chalkster/frank-wilson-tell-me-baby
  7. I don't need to ask anyone, it ain't a dancer IMO, I'm big enough and been around long enough to form an opinion myself without the need to go and ask someone else. There's plenty of records that ooze soul, loads deep stuff, just cause it has soul doesn't make it a dancer. I agree it ain't funk, just soul.
  8. Cosmos Universal Band. It has been around a few years now. Sure it has been reissued by Jazzman?
  9. I'm not sweating Kris, it wasn't me who wanted to know, certainly not after a copy.
  10. I agree it is one helluva soulful record, brilliant, but like you I don't see it as a dancer.
  11. It's been in my playbox for ages, played it the odd time.
  12. There's plenty of us who have a broad mind and don't care for pigeon holing different styles but the hard facts are that on this scene it is pigeon holed and there are several genres including northern soul. It not have been a genre of music BITD when recorded but the fact is it is now, it is referred to, Northern Soul, marketed as Northern Soul, promoted as Northern Soul, you can't get away from Northern Soul. Me I prefer the term rare soul, a term we used in the 80's. We all use these terms whether we like them or not when it suits. Unfortunately those of us who see the bigger musical picture are in a minority, especially when it comes to venues and what we care to hear when out and about.
  13. I have all three, just some pages missing somehow from the first two. Dave Malloy had a fair bit to do with it as well.
  14. Hi Byrney mate. I've PM'ed Robin. I've already started scanning what I've got, will do the rest when I get Robin's. I've also got issue three that was never released officially. Dave Rimmer put a few limited issues out some years ago. There's a great interview with Butch and Pete's usual comments, you can just picture him coming lout with them as you read through Once they are all scanned and digitised will sort something out so you can all read.
  15. I said "if you can get a copy from someone in here I'll play but I think your in the wrong venue for that sort of stuff"

    Keb Stafford spin.....
  24. Yep! The vast majority of paying customers want what you call traditional type northern soul, don't care what anyone says. Lifeline has had to give in a little from the time we were at a smaller venue. With a big hall like we have we would have an empty venue spinning crossover and funk for large parts of the night. 60's and 60's dancers still rule at an all-nighter and most soul nights. If it is funky it has to have the right vibe, that northern style feel so they can still dance the northern way. AS for no such thing as a Northern Soul record try telling a dancer that. Ask them what Tomangoes, Cecil Washington or any other classic and I know what the answer will be. Nev is right that when the music was recorded it was R&B, pop or whatever field the artist was aiming for but here, love the term or hate it, it is Northern Soul.
  25. Ady Croasdell was spinning this mid 80's. I'd consider it Latin, always though of it that way although it fitted in with some of the latin stuff he was playing at the time.
