This thread ends Sunday, confined to the archives, but before that happens it good to finish on a high, so having spoken to Angelo who did the Musette review on Dave Rimmer's site all this week, I can offer these tantalizing tit bits:
------------
Mal.C.
It will still be there in The Sharp End to add too etc at any time.

Loved the seedy venues as a youngster but much prefer nice loos etc now, it's a grown-up thing, don't like to slum it anymore...
I think if you gave an all-niter a go, you may be pleasantly suprised...it is defo more of a social event now as most can't dance all night...
No matter how plush the venue the toilets, or at least the gents, would still be a mess in no time. most the lazy gits can't be bothered to lift the toilet seat and simply p*ss all over it
I wonder if they do the same at home

Yep, we are a bit protective over DJs when a lot of work goes into a nighter. I'm sure Lifeline would feel the same.
Lifeline would like the DJ's there as early as possible, 9pm preferably when we start. I can't really speak for Andy who sorts the DJ's but I doubt he wouldn't take kindly to any DJ booked at Lifeline to DJ at another allnighter the same night.
Any DJ with anything about him shouldn't take two bookings the same night, he (or she) should be fully committed to just one venue, especially as most all-nighters start around 9pm.

..and just as an added
other threads that ask about playing first issues and second issues got the overwhelming response that it is ok to play a reissue of a record; just one example being Big Maybell - cant wait any longer (reissued on B side of Quittin time "ok to play"
double bloody standards and hypocrosy come to mind when listening to some of the opinions
yes but the difference with that is that is a legitimate original label release, you are talking about UK re-issues done especially for the UK Rare Soul Scene. I'm surprised anyone would even consider questioning the Big Maybelle Rojac releases.

well I try to make the Lifeline flyers (well supply the info, Mace does the techie bit of putting it together) interesting and maybe a bit collectable by using a different artist for the background. Few of the artists featured I doubt many have seen before. Betty Lloyd being one.
Here's the latest....Clifford Binns the featured artist.
Flyers still have their place on the scene but they are not the necessity they once were.

just to make it absolutely CLEAR ... this is not a thread about playing boots ..... why some would try to make this an argument about boots is beyond me
....... IT IS ABOUT A LEGIT TEST PRESS OF LITTLE JOHNNY HAMILTON
i think the 100 club has been going for slightly more than 15 minutes Ernie
but some wouldn't play a re-issue when there is a genuine US original label issue.

I deliberately included Try My Love - Tony & The showmen on the cd Chalky not in the play! I did it cos i was sick of the boring, repetitive, same, old same old attitude on the scene and said it would have been played at Wigan, if they had found it. I ALSO< put that in the sleeve notes, so i did it with knowledge and deliberation, not out of ignorance. It was a statement that things should move on...Glad to clear that up for you. best P
I wasn't knocking you or your motives for inclusion (I thought it was Carla Thomas, didn't remember the Tony & Showmen), I was merely highlighting the fact that songs out of period had been used previousluy, yours was the only northern one that came to mind.

Well they're good for mopping up beer if nothing else!
Think they've had their day though and in time will gradually disappear.. Same could be said for some us & indeed the ns scene!
well I'd prefer to see flyers on a table in the entrance to a venue, at least the promoter can take back the ones left at the end of the night. Saves on all the cleaning up too.

Together with Facebook I'd agree.
Is there any need for flyers at all these days?
Maybe another thread there..
There's still plenty of people out there who don't use a PC, or should I say face-book and soul source so you still have to get the message across to these, not flyering could come across as complacency.
We had a discussion about flyers a while back.

Timmion are good, 25 euro I think for two sides. Difference between Timmion and Carvers is Timmion use actual metal acetates, better sound quality than carvers.
