  3. This week we celebrate the amazing vocals of Linda Jones. Such an amazing voice lost to the world at only 27 years old. We can only dream of what could have followed. Linda Jones Biography (Wikipedia) Linda Jones (December 14, 1944 – March 14, 1972) was an American soul singer with a strong gospel-influenced style. Jones was born in Newark, New Jersey. She started singing in her family's gospel group, the Jones Singers at the age of six. Her first recording was "Lonely Teardrops" under the name of Linda Lane on Cub Records in 1963. She was found performing at a local club by songwriter Jerry Harris who introduced her to producer George Kerr. After unsuccessful singles on Atco Records in 1964 and Blue Cat Records the following year, Kerr took her to Warner Bros. Records' R&B subsidiary, Loma Records in 1967. The first Loma release proved to be her biggest success, the ballad, "Hypnotized" reached #4 on the Billboard R&B chart and #21 on the Hot 100. This proved to be the label's best-selling record and it was followed by two further hits, including "What've I Done (To Make You Mad)" (#8 R&B, #61 pop), and an album Read more at Wikipedia This entry is from Wikipedia, the user-contributed encyclopedia and is licensed under an Attribution-ShareAlike Creative Commons License Linda Jones Discography (Soulful Kinda Music Link) >>> LINDA JONES <<<

  6. In the week that a commemorative stamp was issued in America on what would have been his 80th birthday we would like to celebrate the music of Marvin Gaye. Marvin Gaye Biography (Wikipedia) Marvin Gaye (born Marvin Pentz Gay Jr.; April 2, 1939 – April 1, 1984) was an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. He helped to shape the sound of Motown in the 1960s, first as an in-house session player and later as a solo artist with a string of hits, including "Ain't That Peculiar", "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)", and "I Heard It Through the Grapevine", and duet recordings with Mary Wells, Kim Weston, Diana Ross, and Tammi Terrell. He earned the titles "Prince of Motown" and "Prince of Soul". During the 1970s, he recorded the albums What's Going On and Let's Get It On and became one of the first artists in Motown (joint with Stevie Wonder) to break away from the reins of a production company. His later recordings influenced several contemporary R&B subgenres, such as quiet storm and neo soul. Following a period in Europe as a tax exile in the early 1980s, he released the 1982 Grammy Award-winning hit "Sexual Healing" and its parent album Midnight Love.
