  1. The 'Sure-Truth' Micro Bus should be arriving early doors! Looking forward to catching as many of the sets as possible as there's always summat comin' from 'Out of Nowhere' smacking your aural senses around Hopefully, got a few little surprises lined up from the 60's and 70's shelves
  2. Into the final stretch as we head towards the 18th but as you consider where to put the 'X' in the calendar, bear in mind that if you are looking for great music, a friendly welcoming crowd, a crackin' venue, cheap bar and a whole host of boxes 'ticked'... Then you can't go wrong with Ashton, so, let's see you there
  3. Another 'early doors, spin from Culcheth! Rescued from the 'forgotten oldie' pile and given centre stage over the last 3months... Sounding just right for the dance floor, with a mix of pure driving 60's and Latin 'vibes' Think this might just be gettin' a bit of a 'Buzz' on it and definitely 'IMB' for Ashton on the 18th...
  4. Here's one that's been exciting the dancefloor for me at Culcheth and will definitely be 'in the box' for Ashton
  5. A top, top night then at Culcheth and a massive 'THANK YOU' to everyone who came out to support us, you were absolutely amazing each and every one! Both rooms were bustling from early doors! The music is the focus at CULCHETH and you’ll get a great mix of semi-known, ‘forgotten’ or underplayed tracks, all mixed in with quality classics, all aimed at creating in a busy dancefloor throughout 5 hours the night runs. This Saturday was no exception, the music ‘flowed’ from the ‘off’, with tracks from The Webs, Parliaments, Tommy Andre (Hold Back The Tears), Eddie Bo, Phonetics and just for the travellers, who made great effort in shitty weather conditions, Jimmy Scott, ‘It Rained for 40 Days and Nights 😉 One of the busiest DJ’s on the scene and CULCHETH regular, Ian Wills, delivered what he does with attention to detail, inviting dancers to the floor as every tune is received with relish, setting the tone for that night and complimenting the first hour session with tunes from Al McCarther, Sam Fletcher, Emanuel Laskey, Judy Freeman, The Venturas and the Inspirations to name just a few. Ian was followed by ‘Grumpy Soulers’ Phil Threlfall and Joan Livesey! Truth is they’re not really THAT Grumpy 😉 and when it comes to their musical, choices, they’re very happy to share; and share they did, as the assembled CULCHETH faithful were treated to 2 hours then of the finest selections, featuring a plethora of absolute quality 45’s from the boxes of Joan and Phil. Detroit, Chicago, Los Angeles, Houston, New York were all sources of the music coming out of the sound system into the room, ears and feet of the appreciative crowd. The Cairos, Delegates of Soul, The Four Dynamics, Joe Matthews, Eula Cooper, Mikki Farrow, Groovettes, Out of Sights and The Appointments, to name just a very small few of what was on offer… Finally, and to end the night on a high, onto the decks came Simon Ingham. One of the CULCHETH resident team, Simon has been able to ply his chosen hobby of playing rare and rare(ish) soul records to his fellow aficionados. On that basis, he has excelled in showcasing the quality and depth of sounds he has in his box. On Saturday, this was evident as we heard everything from the sublime, and relatively easy to obtain, J.J. Barnes, ‘Baby Please Come Back Home To Me’ through to the MEGA rare, Dennis Edwards ‘I Didn’t Have To (but I did)! In fact, just to show what you might be missing, here’s Simon’s CULCHETH last hour playlist from Saturday… Simon Ingham - Culcheth 2025.10.04 The Fascinators - In Other Words Dennis Edwards - I Didn't Have To (But I Did) The Celebrities - I Choose You Baby Carol Anderson - I'm Not Worried The Honey Bees - Let's Get Back Together The Soul Blenders - Love Built On A Strong Foundation Four Tracks - Voo Doo Man Mac Staten - There She Goes The Hopkins Bros. - Shake Cheri Edwin Starr - I Just Wanted To Cry J.J. Barnes - Baby Please Come Back Home Bobby Rich - There's A Girl Somewhere For Me Cody Black - I'm Slowly Molding Buddy Conner - When You're Alone Bill Bush - I'm Waiting Four Tracks - Like My Love For You Celeste Hardie - You're Gone The Constellations - I Don't Know About You Bad Weather Inc. - I Never Never Knew Exits - Girl If You Come Back To Me Ralph Graham - She Just Sits There CULCHETH, of course is a two-room event and as such, draws a crowd who want to listen and dance to the more ‘Modern’ side of our wonderfully unique scene and Saturday was no exception! After a summer break, entertaining folks all over the UK, Soul Sam was back in fine form as the centrepiece of the evening’s proceedings alongside Charlie Smith, Nick McKinnon, Steve Plumb and Pete Ratcliffe...Everything from the Rarest of the Rare to the Best of the Best in ‘Modern’ and modern soul classics was featured during the night! We heard United Sounds ‘It’s All Over Baby’ Peabo Bryson ‘Make Up Your Mind, The Moments ‘Sleep Won’t Come’ Durand Jones ‘Really Wanna See You Soon’ Joseph Webster, ‘My Love is So Strong, The Womack Sisters and Ronnie McNeir’s latest Kent outing and being worthy examples, as well as surprise tune of the night, Prince George ‘Wrong Crowd’ sounding fabulous and causing a rush to the floor! It's possibly the scope and variation of music in the Modern room, that with the exception of pure 60’s ‘Northern’ makes it really ‘Across the Board’ and why folk keep coming back for more. Just a few of the comments from those who were there on Saturday… “Outstanding from start to finish! “Our first time, great room, great night, we’ll be back!” “Loved it!” “ What a Superb Night” “One of My Favourite Soul Venues” “Top Night Again” If you are a regular at CULCHETH, we thank you for your support x If you’ve never been, hopefully, we’ll see you soon, maybe at the next night on Saturday November 1st when we will be announcing something special for our December event… so don’t miss it!

  18. Kev McCue - Last, but definitely not least in local lad Kev McCue. As part of the Warrington ‘crew’ Kev very rarely missed a night at Lowton Civic were he and the Warrington crowd took 'pole position' right at the front of the stage in the main room. An avid collector of ‘girl’ vocals, Kev’s ear was definitely tuned towards the femme side of Northern Soul. Kev kicks the proceedings off tomorrow, so if you like quality rare soul, from sounds like Liz Verdi ‘Think it Over’ to underplayed selections like Sebastian Williams ‘Get Your Point Over’ then join us from 4pm tomorrow, you’ll be glad you did… We start at 4pm! QUALITY FROM THE GET GO
  19. Our penumtimate bio is for honourary 'marketing manager' Rob Haigh Rob has been a Soul enthusiast for best part of 25 years, with a love for all the different genres of music on the scene. Starting out at the Catacombs in the 70's, Rob first started djing at 'Sammies ' (youth club all-nighter in St.Giles Willenhal). But it was the Lea Manor Hotel that opened his eyes and mind to the realisation that "there's more to the scene than you think"! This manifests itself in the playbox he’s assembling and is pretty much representative of the different facets and styles of the scene... Rob’s favourite venues, past and present include, Brighouse Ritz, Lowton Civic Hall, Prestwich Longfield Suite and his all-time No1, Manchester Ritz! Still as enthusiastic as ever, Rob loves spinning the tunes and dancing.... His DJ CV includes guest spots in Italy, Culcheth, Ashton Ukrainian, Saltaire, ELSC and 45 Revolutions...Rob Haigh Rob has been a Soul enthusiast for best part of 25 years, with a love for all the different genres of music on the scene. 22. What can we say about Robbo? THE ‘face in the place’ for many years on the North-West rare soul scene, for as many years as we can remember, a man who’s record box just oozes QUALITY, from MONSTERS like Fortson and Scott ‘Sweet Lover’ to Gene Chandler Buddy Ain’t It a Shame, the latter being typical of Robbo championing many, many tunes over the years a REAL tastemaker. Always a great night when Robbo gets behind the decks and this Saturday at CULCHETH will be NO EXCEPTION!
  23. Simon Ingham - Young Gun??? A new guy on the block? Not really, Simon has been around since the days of Morecambe, Stafford, Whitchurch, Radcliffe, Bury and many more! A real devotee to rare and underplayed soul and sessions under his guidance at Bury Town Hall All-Nighters became an intrinsic part of the night, with name DJ’s wanting to come and play from ‘The Back of the Box’ at those sessions. Simons’ passion for the music and superb and every growing collection now manifests itself at Ashton Ukranian and CULCHETH where he is one of the resident DJ’s. Finally getting the recognition he rightly deserves, Simon can list guest sets at The 100 Club, Keele and Whitchurch All-Nighters to add to his residencies. Here's one of Simon's featured spins at CULCHETH Hayes Cotton I’ll Be Waiting
  24. It's been a while but we finally managed to 'snag' very popular DJ STEVE THOMAS and invite him onto the CULCHETH ALL-DAYER rota to 'spin a fewtunes' Passionate Northern Soul and well known for his deep vinyl collection and love of keeping the dancefloor alive with rare grooves and classic floor-fillers. With years of experience behind the decks, Steve brings authentic energy to every set, celebrating the timeless spirit of Northern Soul and keeping the scene thriving for old and new generations alike. Like sooo many who frequent Culcheth Soul nights, a LOWTON ‘veteran’ but a DJ who is in demand all across North Wales and the North West, and rightly so! Looking forward to welcoming Steve on Sept 6th Here’s a tune from Steve picking up serious plays at the mo Mamselles - Open Up Your Heart https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvxlNF4vU_Q
