  8. Summer Soul; So Soulful Saturdays @ CULCHETH is where the ’Modern’ vibe takes over in the second room. Soulful 70’s mixed with classic 80’s all the way through to some of today’s brand new vinyl releases make So Soulful Saturday’s a must visit night out for those who love Modern Soul in all its forms. DJ’s Just back from the Blackpool International Soul Festival, STEVE PLUMB, is joined by CULCHETH resident BAZ MALEEDY, ‘Can You Dig It’ main man NICK McKINNON, Cassinellis and Newton Cricket Club DJ, BILL WILDMAN, Preston City Soul and top collector, CHARLIE SMITH and last but not least, new release champion PETE RATCLIFFE, all working together to bring you a night of everything from rare 70’s to modern soul classics, with a sprinkling of Jazz Funk and rare groove memories and those early doors, ‘first play’ future Modern Monsters. 10. Fantastic selection Bob and credit to you, as the first person I heard play this back in the old 'SAINTS' days was you
  11. There's a great thread on here at the moment looking at the 'best lp only Northern Soul tracks' https://www.soul-source.co.uk/forums/topic/460093-best-lp-only-northern-soul-tracks/page/3/#comment-100240112 Gotta say there's one guy who's always featured great, underplayed tracks from albums and he's joining us at Culcheth on July 5th A TIM ASHIBENDE RECOMMENDATION... Wonderful!
  12. Sometimes it’s better to let others to tell you what’s what. In this case, it’s from a review by Mike Roche from June’s CULCHETH event and at the end of the review Mike states quote; “For Soul fans and aficionados, a fabulous night from start to finish. The kind of night that reminds you why you fell in love with this music in the first place.” So, all I can say is, if that’s the kind of soul night you are looking for, we’d love to see YOU on July 5th What's Happening...With a selection of great DJs every month, CULCHETH main room has already made its mark, playing mainly 60’s soul with everything from classics, rare platters, underplayed selections featured by all the DJ’s and a selection of great 70’s thrown into the mix for good effect. So, you’ll hear records you recognise, some you may not but will definitely want to hear again, just like you did when you started coming to soul events, and as Mike says,”Why you fell in love with is music in the first place!” July 5th we welcome one of the scenes’ most charismatic and knowledgeable guys, TIM ASHIBENDE! When it comes to passion for the music Tim has long been up there with the most dedicated. From Wigan to Stafford to Today, Tim was there and still is a talisman for great, rare soul music, all you need to do is listen to his guest sets on Dean Andersons ‘Sound of Soul’ shows or hear his DJ sets across the North West Next up on the 5th is ‘local lad’ DJ, long standing collector and all round good guy, IAN CUNLIFFE. Ian will be celebrating his 71st Birthday on the night, that’s going to make a for a great night, so if you know Ian, come and say hello…If you know Ian, you’ll know his play selections will, as always, be absolute QUALITY! With no horses spared, pulling from our resident DJ’s list we bring you two guys, who for years have been a permanent fixture on the rare soul scene BOB HINSLEY and ROBBO. Over the past 40 years these two guys have DJ’d at some of the most influential venues ever and bring a wealth of MONSTER tunes as well as some brilliant, forgotten oldies. The bread in this ‘soulful sandwich’ comes in the form of BAZ MALEEDY at the start of the night and SIMON INGHAM at the end, ensuring a great night of quality, soulful delights! Check back to our Soul Source JULY EVENT listing for more info and updates Miss This, Miss Out!
  13. Noticed this great underplayed record on a recent Mick Howard playlist, hopefully it'll get a spin on Saturday as it deserves more attention IMHO
  14. That's a deffo Bob...like you I'm looking forward to hearing it...
  15. Super excited about the prospect of Mick H and Soul Sam, two of the scene's best known and most respected DJ's plying their trade in the main room on Saturday but not forgetting there's also the monthly Modern Room at Culcheth which this month features 'So Soulful 70's' main man, STEVE PLUMB, Top modern collector CHARLIE SMITH, new release champion PETE RATCLIFFE (get there early to hear all the latest new vinyl releases) BAZ MALEEDY and of course SOUL SAM enjoying the opportunities to test his latest acquisitions at his monthly residency! So a real Twofur for those who want something just a bit different from their Soul Night STOP PRESS... Roger Williams will be bringing a BIG selection of 45's, 12" and LP's from his collection to sell, so bring some cash
  16. A record worth making the effort to hear, especially over the big, 'clear as a bell' sound system in the main room at CULCHETH, Proper, real deal, rare soul that's just a cut above... Saturday is calling
  17. Anyone who's listened to the Richard Searling radio shows featuring Steve Connor and Kev Murphy talking about the Lowton Civic Anniversaries, will have heard the story of how came to track this record down... so in respect to Kev, I'll be dedicating this great forgotten oldie to his memory on Saturday...
  18. Gotta say even though we do like our rare gems, there's always a great selection of QUALITY cheaper records get played at CULCHETH in both rooms and here's a point in case... A fiver on discogs and a bloody great 70's record from a well known artist ( thanks to Matt Simpson for the heads up)
  19. Yes, Mate one I'm really looking forward to hearing, both Sam and Mick have this so it's pretty much a cert to get a spin
  20. One things for sure we are going to be blessed with an abundance of riches on Saturday! Quite simply, there'll be some of the best 'boxes' on the stage at CULCHETH owned by a selection of some of the best DJ's on the scene today...as well as the CULCHETH residents we are looking forward to MICK H and SOUL SAM opening their respective payboxes and giving us a masterclass in rare, 'Across the Board' 60's and 70's soulful delights including The Empires, The Dynamics, Jax Transit Authority, Love Warm Affection, Clay Brown, Harvey Scales, King George, Charline and the Soul Serenaders, Barbara King, Marshal Donavon Bloomfield, Bernard Drake, Notations, Psychedelic Frankie, Hopkins Brothers, Chuck Holiday, Appointments, Sir Henry Ivy, United Sounds, Little Ceaser, Willie Feaster, Martinique’s, Magnetics, Johnny Rogers, Two Plus Two, Patrinell Staton, Four Dynamics, Doc Peabody, Fred Williams, Sag War Fare, Soul Aces, Buddy Smith, Eddie Billups, Arthur Willis, The Tranells, Hamilton Movement, Joseph Webster, John and the Weirdest, Cecil Washington and more…
