Looking forward to our first event of 2025 at CULCHETH and what an event it’s shaping up to be! We start the year as we’ve always done with our ‘homage’ to the venue that brought many of us together and continues to bond many of us, LOWTON CIVIC HALL. This year, on SATURDAY FEB1st, we are celebrating the LOWTON ANNIVERSARY with a special ALL-DAYER! 12 hours of soulful sounds running from 1pm till 1am and featuring THREE ROOMS and 21 DJ’s! ROOM 1, the main room, residents and guest dj’s will be featuring the records that made LOWTON a ‘Must-visit’ monthly venue for many years, so expect classics oldies, rarities and LOWTON favourites. ROOM 2, a new addition to the proceedings this year and harking to the very popular back room at LOWTON, featuring rare and underplayed, 60’s and 70’s, with more than just a tip to the DDA, ROOM WITH A VIEW and BURY TOWN HALL KENWOOD SUITE ROOM 3 the Modern Room, a monthly feature at CULCHETH and a room that became one of the most successful North-West modern rooms for many years at LOWTON, so taking its rightful place at the LOWTON Anniversary special. Following on from a few plays recently from CULCHETH and ASHTON guest Tim Ashibende, here's a great underplayed oldie in a coupe of boxes for Saturday

It's a 2 Roomer so, Modernistas get set for another So Soulful Saturday, Modern Soul session at CULCHETH this Saturday 7 th December! Messers Plumb, Maleedy, Smith, McKinnon, Wildman and Ratcliffe will be dropping Soulful bombs, from the get-go at 8pm! Expect 70’s and 80’s right through to the latest new release vinyl and everything in-between as we explore everything ‘Modern’, from Alverez to Zoom! Rare, not so rare and just damn good…

Now don't get me wrong, I love top 500 'sounds' but I REALLY love it when some of those 'forgotten' sounds get another airing and here's a point in case, thanks to CULCHETH guest DAVE RIMMER... Quality tuneage from Mr Rimmer's playbox

Correctamundo...I've been playing this out for a while, IMHO it's brilliant! The other track which is an R&B stormer is 'Tell Me (Where I Stand)' (which I'll post later) and was actually issued on the 'B' side of Chris Kings I Can't Get Enough UK Soul City 45 release. Another in the playbox😉

So as we near December and CULCHETH is on the first Saturday of the festive month, December 7th… We get right in the festive spirit with and absolute CHRISTMAS CRACKER in the form of an ASHTON Meets CULCHETH SPECIAL! A two room Saturday night out but the main room featuring residents from ASHTON UKRAINIAN and CULCHETH joined by SPECIAL GUEST DAVE RIMMER for a night of rare, underplayed and classic soul sounds Here's a sample of just one of the sounds featured on the 'wheels of steel' by Special Guest at CULCHETH

Looking forward to what will be our final night of the year and what a year it’s been! Reiterating the musical ethos of the much loved and much missed LOWTON CIVIC HALL soul nights, CULCHETH has strived to maintain a focus on quality sounds, with a mix of rare, underplayed and classic original records and so this year along with a small number of other venues has, in our opinion, kept to the traditions and expectations of the rare soul scene and its loyal followers. Mentioning a number of other venues following the values of the scene, one such venue is Ashton Ukrainian Club. This year has also seen Ashton consolidate its place in the North-West soul calendar as a ‘must-visit’ event and so it’s with great pleasure that we announce a joint promotion between ASHTON and CULCHETH on December 7th. DJ’s on the night, representing ASHTON will be two of the driving forces of Ashton’s success, SIMON INGHAM and MICK HOWARD and representing CULCHETH will be resident DJ’s KEV MURPHY and BAZ MALEEDY, adding to the line up for the night will be special guest, CULCHETH and ASHTON regular, and resident DJ at RUGBY, SWINTON all-nighters and Rare Soul Bol Weekenders, DAVE RIMMER! There is no doubt, this will be a real CHRISTMAS CRACKER, so get it in the diary for SATURDAY 7th DECEMBER!
