  1. Lee LaMont - I'll Take Love - Back Beat 542 Has to have been a Stafford tune?
  2. Said far more eloquently than I could sir! right on the money
  3. and that's not a "scene", its a film in pre-production!
  4. If you read my post I think we are both saying the same thing Yes your quite right, I never get out, that's why I'm so jaded, but I'm happy now I know there is an army of them young uns waiting in the wings to carry the torch! KTF
  5. Perhaps I missed the point of the OP? I wasn't really talking about the odd kid that goes with their Mam and Dad, I was talking about scenes/groups of young people.
  6. because they are, that's my point, they listen to it but just don't label it "northern"
  7. I think the discerning "younger" punter these days (under 25?) stays well away from anything tagged a "northern night" (unless they are being taken by mam n dad!) Younger folk that go in numbers tend to frequent more upfront city venues or festivals playing a mixture of funk, soul disco and acid jazz stuff. (Mosely Funk and Jazz festival and Soul Buggin, Nottingham sping to mind) https://soulbuggin.podomatic.com/ Rob Soulfood podcast in particular From my experience (I teach and my boy is 17) a lot of young people like northern stuff but it will probably be just one of a number of genres they listen to on their ipod. They may or may not even class it as "northern" or even associate it with dance scenes at all! (damn you KFC) Britain has a long history of taking black american music and using it subversively, whether that's blues, soul or house. I'm sure they are still doing it, just with other black American music genres. (I'm 34 btw, do I still class as a young un?) (on second thoughts forget i asked )
  8. mmm, how many of them styrene ones have I cracked¿ (two so far, good job pink uns are cheap), always seems particularly brittle IMO, must be nice to have it on vinyl.
  9. Plan to start collecting Back Beat... so much good stuff on it. Love me a bit of Joe Hinton! This was in my post this morning dances real nice, flip is great mid-tempo too. Joe Hinton - You've Been Good To Me - BackBeat 581
  10. Thanks for all your help! and the great recommendations!
  11. That's what got me thinking they might be more out there/on there way, still as long as I'm careful with them two I should be ok! Really love the Joe Hinton stuff, that's where I'm starting!
  12. I'm not saying I'll get em all! but I'll have a good go!
  13. Hi everyone! Thinking of collecting this label for a bit as there are some nice cheap things but you can build to the higher priced stuff. Does anyone know what has been reissued or booted from their catalogue? and more importantly how to spot em as they seem to be using the original label design? J
  14. Sorry just catching up with the thread, this is stunning, anyone have a guide price for it?
  15. As the topic starter I would point out that I agree with your sentiments exactly However, that's not the point of this discussion. I don't want to listen/dance to a set that sounds like a Goldmine CD, but even though I prefer my soul upfront and progressive and spend obscene amounts of time researching, listening, buying and trying to find new 60s stuff (I still believe its out there!), there are still those "oldies" that have the power to move me (and you maybe?), in a very deep way. Preferring upfront/rare soul/across the board, does not mean you have to forget that does it? J

  17. Apologies if this has been done before, perhaps its time to recycle? With all this talk of oldies, underrated, overrated etc, thought it might be nice to look at those records that may be overplayed, overrated, used in adverts/films/remixed/remade and the like, but are just so so so so damn good, that you just dont care! Them records that it wouldn't matter if you heard them zillions of times they would still destroy you like the first time! (even if you are a card carrying upfront newies punter or modern room mover or closet funketeer ) Perhaps your little dirty secret? Here's one of mine, I'm way too young to have heard it played out when it was big first time (79?), but it's a stone cold "oldie" Billy Hambric - She Said Goodbye - Drum (them chord changes in the chorus ruin me everytime!)
  18. Was waiting for a 45 over a month here, and tracked said waiting at depot for three weeks. Never lost one though, IMO if one goes missing its a seller error!
