Price Guides
Morning John I think price guides are what they say, a price guide. I find yours very usefull, and the best soul one out there. No one knows every thing, so on trips to the U.S. I always take it with me. I also think it has been a good thing in the U.S. market, as many people over there have realised the value of soul 45's and so more great hard to find things have come to the surface. The only problem is when people don't see them as a guide, but as the gospel market price, same as your auctions and ebay prices. They are still only a guide, that was the price that record sold on that day and was what that person was willing to pay. Dave

Jerry (hippo) Hipkiss Gfm Morning Drivetime Show
The last few mornings I have been listening to Jerry's show on Gloucester FM as I have been working on my barn converstion. I know he is an old mate of mine, but what a great show he does each and every day. For those that don't know Jerry, he DJ'd at Yate allnighter nearly as long as I did, has forgatten more than most of us know about black music and has continued to play soul music on radio and in clubs in gloucestershire ever since. His show is a nice mix of R&B, Reggae, Northern, Modern, Boogie 8am-11am everyday. He does a pure northern set from 9am-9.30 in every show, playing classics and lesser know tunes. In the last week he's played stuff a diverse as Calvin Williams-Lonley you'll be to Weather Report-Birdland and some great new indie soul releases. GFM is a local community station in Gloucester with a signal that reaches about 20 miles, but you can listen live on line. https://www.gloucesterfm.com/gfm_schedule_index.php It's the nearest thing you'll find in the UK to a black music station. Also on wednesday nights another old mate Leon Brown does the 'Northern Soul Show' Well worth a listen and a great way to get your soul fix everyday.

Freedom-can't You See(freedom)
Hi If you got 100 out of the producer, plus what was in the warehouse I would say thats pretty well all the quantity gone. The warehouse had blue & yellow label copies. Someone asked why two colours, when records were pressed on a budget they would ask the pressing plant to do it at as low a cost as possible and they would source labels. So the printers would print on what ever paper they had availble, this could mean one, two or even three different colours in the same pressing run. Never seen a white demo, wonder if there is a demo for 'High on you', only ever seen HOY on a red label pressing. I found 5 copies of it in the warehouse, one of which went to Butch and is the copy he plays now. Dave

Freedom-can't You See(freedom)
Hi Mark Yes, I have it at £160. I have it at that price because it is a hard record to find and very good. Met the manager of the group last year, he told me that they only pressed about 500-700 copies of this and 'High on you'. He doesn't have any copies left, most of the copies of this and 'High on you' were distributed through a company in the south. A few years back there were a fair few of 'can't you see' and maybe a handful of 'High on you' still sitting in the warehouse in the 'Deep South'. But these all got clean out about 4 years ago by guys from Japan and the U.S., so I would say that the only copies that will turn up now are those in collections and these people decide to sell. These were the only two releases they had on their own label, after this they signed for Malaco. The lead singer is now dead, have met a couple of guys from the band, the engineer and the producer Vernon Steve Weakley, who also put out one nice crossover tune and a couple of good boogie tunes. As an aside Steve was a prominant civil rights activist in the 70's and hit the headlines when he was shot by the National Guard during a student protest at Jackson University. Dave
