Flamingos 70's Version Of Lover Come Back
Hi All Found a bunch of these a while back, sold them all on the same day at the last Lifeline weekender. Really nice 70's crossover version of Lover come back to me on Polydor. Will try and put up sound clip if I can get the hang of this new system. Anyone got any more info on the band's line up at the time.

Yate, Just A Distant Memory ?
Some a bit confused by all that went on there, and that's no great suprised. Three/four different promoters, two venues, lots of dj's so here's a bit of a breakdown (best I can remember, with a few spelling mistakes) and I might have missed the odd dj. Inter-City Soul Club-John 'Kojak' Harvey Started at Stars & Strips (Two rooms, main room northern, upstairs funk) finished at The Baths as a one room event. As Tony has said above, the production values where very much the same. Sledge hammer beat, puchy horns, big string arrangement, powerful vocals, all done with little finess (and that's not a negative). In short 70's stompers (as they were indeed called by some at the time they were played). Where as many of what is termed crossover/modern soul, is slower, often guitar or keyboard lead, vocals are more often than not more subtle, often closer to deep soul style. So I can see full well why 60's northern fans would prefer one over the other. Different strokes for different folks.

Show Rob Wigley Your Support
It has been all over the site for the last few days under several treads, sorry maybe should of linked it. But it's not a great subject, was just trying to do something positive.

Show Rob Wigley Your Support
I'll just close the tread, it's more trouble than it's worth. As I have said Rob & Karen Wigley have been asked to leave the management of the weekender. Will anyone know the full story ?, I dought it. But who cares, if only for their contribution in the past to the UK soul scene I gave people that are aware to some extent, of recent happenings a chance to voice some positive remarks and support. If you not aware of anything that has recently happen or don't not know who they are, don't contribute. If you are asking for 'Stop the car as you drive by' blow by blow account, i'm sure that can be found if you try. As has been said by several on here and comfirmed by people at the event, they were asked to leave after an incident at the weekender. Little thanks for all the years they have put in, what ever happened

And I'm sure you'll never hear the full story. But it does seem that Rob one of the main movers behind the very sucessful weekender has parted company with them and I happy to show some support, even at this early stage.

I'll start this, as I've never really DJ'd there, so have no real motive for doing this. Other than I know how hard it is as a promoter, when your up, people want to knock you down. Don't really know him, only spoken to him a a few times and he seems a nice guy. But he has done a fantastic job with the weekender and I know first hand that many artists in the US have been so pleased to perform there. So lets be having you words of support for the guy, may help in the future or lift his spirits
