    Hi everyone.

I am trying to find some information about Al Williams I am nothing Palmer / La-Beat, and the story behind the both issues, I can't find any thread, strange, I understand it's my thing what I'm a negate for these things.

    Any help will be welcome

    Thanks in avance!

For some reason I've found that using the Search feature whilst 'in' this thread just throws up this item , but doing the Search from the Activity feed offers up 411 items with the phrase "Al Williams" in the title , another minor quirky thing for @Mike to investigate ?

Here's a link to the 400+ that I got from the search from the feed ... https://www.soul-source.co.uk/search/?&q=%22Al%20Williams%22&quick=1&start_after=any&updated_after=any&sortby=relevancy&search_and_or=or&search_in=titles

Ive always had a soft spot for the casino classics singles and lp's,they were my first intro into northern soul,so i wont hear s bad word said about them 😂

But why was the 3 b4 8 released on RK label and not the tradional ccs?

The RK release was 1978 the year that Robert Kingston started the Casino Classics label so I assume it was made before they had the idea of the CC bandwagon thing with RW on the team management-wise.

It wasn't always UK Beat groups that made such crap covers -- The Buckingham's took on a British styled name & performed surrounded by UK flags, but they were really from Chicago. I think this version of Cannonball Adderley's jazz & pop chart hit is JUST a bit inferior to Marlena Shaw's version (which came between the two) ... well, it's actually much worse than the two earlier versions even though this was the bigger US pop chart hit ...

The levels of torture that americans inflicted on themselves aurally back then in order to try and avoid setting their eyes upon coloured singers never fails to amaze me.

Just how desperately bigoted did the record company executives have to be to sanction a steaming pile like that ?

But fair play to them for being inclusive enough to let the "special" little cousin to join in on the vocals.

  4. The new drama "Untamed" with Eric Bana and Sam Neill is very good so far. (two episodes in)

Set in Yellowstone Park amongst the sumptuous views it offers it's a visual treat as well as a drama.

Quick heads up to anyone in the market for a vinyl press , a bunch up for a no-reserve auction on the 25th in Acton , NW10.

No vinyl cutting lathes unfortunately which was something I was hoping to see ... (

I assume this is from the old "Broadcrest Ltd" plant that subsequently became "Phoenix of Vinyl Ltd" ... ?

    Here's a thing also...

are Acetates run off all at once?

Or could you produce Acetates ( presumably from stampers, mothers, blah, blah blah) at any time after the initial 'run'. So in effect could you run a 60's Acetate ( from the stampers, etc) in 1990 for more Acetates?

Acetates are literally 'cut' individually on a lathe basically , no multiple copies from stampers , exactly the opposite in fact as the stampers are made from the acetates.

Well the pics would be nice to see .. a table top book sounds like an option

    Hi Andy ,

I'm still deciding what to do with them , along with all the others of bands from those years that I was shooting while most on here were doing Wigan , like SLF , Motorhead , The Undertones , 9 Below Zero , Siouxie and the Banshees , Toyah , Echo and the Bunnymen , The Cure , Gang of Four etc etc.

I'm still trawling through the negatives making hi-res (3600dpi) scans of everything , it'll be a while whatever I do as there's loads of rolls to go through.

Some were recently used in a film by Brandon Spivey called "Crass: The Sound of Free Speech (The Story of Reality Asylum)" which is doing well across Europe at the moment.

Cheers for the heads up,a couple of nice acetates of the jam im interested in👍

    Happy hunting.

I don't have any acetates but pretty much every single and album I have is fully autographed after the thirty-odd times I saw them live between '78 in Cambridge and '82 in Paris , as well as umpteen of the photos I shot over the years ... shades

ok, that's the last major outstanding task now completed, the rebuild of the events weekly map view which is now back up and running

this should now herald a more solid period on here tech wise

Info for anyone interested, everything on here, Soul Source had to be reset to a vanila state and then all our custom/bespoke features had to be rebuilt/re-coded and then re-applied whilst keeping the site up and running solid through out.

All features (less the member map feature which has been sacked) are now back up and running, all should be improved and overall the site should now be in a much better place, thats performance and feature wise and also importantly security wise and overall I say we are in good shape for the next 5 or so years....

Lovely to see the font change , it's miles better , thank you Mike.

The above must have been a different tour, as the group I posted her performing with in Korea were definitely black (or she had 2 different backing groups with her).

At about 1:50 in the video she's on stage with the doo-wop group shown in your photo , comprising one black chap and three white fellas so I'm not sure where your statement fits.

The show was called Anything Goes - hence the drum skin with the same words on 👍🏻

In 1954, Marilyn Monroe entertained over 100,000 American troops in Korea during an organized show titled "Anything Goes."

using a up to date browser ?

if using latest chrome on windows 11

as before right click the thumbnail

then choose open link in new tab/window

that will open the large image (https://www.soul-source.co.uk/uploads/monthly_2025_06/screencapture-raresoulman-co-uk-auction-soul-auction-soul-auction-ending-this-wednesday-html-2025-06-18-19_00_15.png.c113cc196df46d50f3b2748e6cc4c5a3.png

in a new tab/window, you then can zoom in on that

    sorted?

    edit

the 'trick' is you are opening the 'link' not the actual 'image'

So it has changed then ... previous to the fiddling it has always worked as Zanetti has instructed in the OP , as in clicking on the image automatically opened the full size image link in a new tab and as you hover the cursor over the image the '+' sign shows and the next click opened the full version , as it always has every time I've posted the results.

Right clicking now works so thank you but there's certainly been a change somewhere and it's not my browser or OS.

Seems to be a bit of a glitch this time round , clicking once opens the image but there's no enlarged full size image to follow a second click it just closes the image and takes you back to the original post.

May be something to do with the 'upgrade' ... ? @Mike

    @Zanetti Hi there , I just downloaded the image and it's just 86 x 750 @ 190kb so presumably not the full image ???

Vividly remember mine , it was the Barbara McNair/Vandellas - You're gonna love my baby/Spellbound on TamTown.

Got it at the Oddfellows in Leicester around 1981 for a quid , was admiring it on the bus on the way home with the Ely crowd when I got an almighty bollocking from Aggro , he'd just bought a stone mint British red and white demo for something silly like £300.

Makes £50 these days so not a bad buy at the end of the day , if Aggro's red and white had increased in value pro rata it'd be £15,000 now ... thumbsup
