  1. Yes, I've seen that - but then this other page says the contrary - don't angle the cartridges it only makes it worse: https://www.kabusa.com/str8_doc.htm All of these different opinions are the reason I'd love to have some real-world experiences, i.e. have you played your 45s on one of these, how did it go - do they sound any worse because of it - etc. Thanks! PS also notice that the closing phrase on what you posted is 'get your scratch on!'
  2. Thanks man. Nah, the cartridges I use are good quality and the styli in good condition - I used to 'collect' cartridges a few years back, well not really but I do have two cigar boxes full of them! So I have quite a few to choose from. These days I use a Stanton 680AL (spherical) and an Ortofon Pro S, and they both sound great and are gentle on records... so the carts/styli themselves shouldn't be a problem. Thanks for posting.
  3. Hi all, I've been invited to DJ at a thing where I know the turntables are of the straight-arm variety, similar to this one - I've read more than once that this is far from ideal, I'm somewhat familiar with tonearm geometry, alignment, null points, tracking error etc. and I can see why. But I haven't actually *used* this sort of turntable before. My concern right now is whether to go ahead or politely refuse to DJ, which will come across as a bit of a sh*t thing to do as I've been invited by a close friend. I always take my own styli with me and those are properly align and get properly set up with a tracking force gauge and etc. when I get to the place - but with these arms, all bets are off. They're flawed from the get-go, at least on paper. I don't have any grotesquely expensive 45s but that doesn't mean I won't be sorry if they get shredded by these decks. Especially considering that most of them are styrene. I was wondering what your experiences have been, have you ever had a record trashed by one of these - would truly appreciate any opinions/comments. Thanks!

Hi everyone, Does anyone have a copy of this to sell? Doesn't have to be a minter as long as it's not chewed... Would prefer PM. Thanks! D
  5. Sorted, thanks!
  6. Hi everyone, Considering buying this as I can't put the damn song down.. I was wondering if there's anyone here with a copy to sell? I don't mind which label (the Blue Rock looks a lot cooler but I'm told that Philips tends to be quieter?) as long as it plays cleanly, doesn't have to look NM either. Ultimately will depend on price as this will be by far the most I've spent on a record and I don't want to wake up in the middle of the night screaming 'GOD WHAT HAVE I DONE?!' Would prefer PM. Thanks in advance, best-- D

Yeah, and they did clean up beautifully! One of them barely crackles at all.

Well the Ebay gamble turned out in my favour this time - these arrived today: They are, most of all, just reeeally dusty. But they look like they'll clean up really well, and they play all the way through without any major flaws. In short, good playing copies - paid $15 for the lot. Once again, thank you very much to all of you who have offered copies (and sorry to have bothered you for nothing but I wasn't expecting these to pop up!) - take care!!
  9. Hi everyone. Does anyone know what's up with this? I searched around but did not find anything. All of the clips on YT appear to be the same recording yet there's a Dutch 45 that says 'The Weekend's Here (New Version)' and I don't know what to make of it. Anyone? TIA, D
  10. Interested in the Flirtations, just sent you a PM.

Hey, just wanted to say that I received the VG+ Dynamic from Beto and I'm very happy - the record plays very well (and it's not even clean yet) and the transaction was quick and hassle-free. Thank you very much Beto!

a VG- Loma promo popped up on Ebay today, BIN for $9.99 from a US seller with over 11k positive feedback.. took a chance on it, let's see what turns up. I hope it's not chewed up. Thank you to all of you who have offered copies and I still might go for one, depending on what shape this one turns out to be in. Will keep you posted -- cheers!

Yeah, I have that on 'This is LOMA' (#2). But if I'm not mistaken it's under a different name there? I'll find it and check. [this was about the flip above btw] Nope, it's The Dolls indeed.

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a good playing copy of the Commands' "Hey It's Love" on Back Beat, got fed up with Ebay after being outbid by $1 a few times with a few seconds to go. Lemme know - thanks in advance! Damian
  22. I have pictures of what the records look like and you can bet those will go up on their feedback page if they don't give me a full refund.
  23. Well I had my very own 'comedy sale of the day' today when I received a bunch of filler cheapies I had bought from a US seller (who took 13 days *just to post the package*) and found that, not only had he left one of the records out of the package, but also... a few of them advertised as NM and VG+ looked like this: (yes, I actually bought that record - I like the flip and my copy was worn out.. so much for thinking I was getting a better one!) I don't expect I'll be getting my money back as this was a Discogs sale and Paypal will wash their hands of it..
  24. Thanks everyone for chiming in, this is all really useful to me as I'm barely getting started here (as I'm sure you've noticed).
  25. Thank you very much everyone. I did see one on Ebay but it's a reissue: https://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Precisions-If-This-Is-Love-Such-Misery-Northern-Soul-Vinyl-45-Listen-/151654937016?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item234f56b1b8 I was aware of a couple reissues on labels like 'Detroit' (I think?) but had not seen them with the Drew label design. The EP looks interesting!
