Best Live Acts................eva
Thought so. That was the night I got to yours and waited for what seemed like forever...the record player was still in bits on the floor from when you'd took it apart and tried to fix it and failed dismally and I should know as I sat staring at it for hours but I don't know how I got into your place...must have had a key...well I was there rather a lot back in the day eh? Or did I just wait outside and saw the record player when I came back for you? Then I got to thinking that either I'd missed you or you'd changed your mind and decided to stay up in Scotland so went on my way without you...only to get there and get told that you had been running late and to go all the way back to Warrington for you...which I did cos you're my mate...got pulled up by the police in Stafford town centre as I'd got myself lost (what me no never) and drove up a bus lane the wrong way...got let off with that then the police officer told me to turn round and drive down to the traffic lights "and if you wait for them to turn green love you'll be waiting all night"...exact words...so me being the literal person that I am took him at his word and drove straight through em on red ...next thing siren blaring and pulled again..."I don't believe you love...are you ok in the head (err no not exactly officer ) because first you drive down a bus lane the wrong way then you drive through a red light...it had better be good" whereupon I explained that as it was a bus lane and the buses don't run during the night I thought it would be set to red so no point waiting...then he said what he had meant was that it would just take a long time to change to green so I said well you should say what you mean...and he let me off again lol...lucky me Anyway I finally got back to yours and the rest is history eh

Cathy Kirby was from Bradford I think Harry. She was a good pal of Jinx and Les who you've mentioned. Les was often stuck in a dancing comp when money was tight and she always came up trumps You couldn't beat Jacquie Temple from Darlo for her stomping...don't know how she did it as she was a big lass but oh so graceful...she is sadly no longer with us so RIP me old marra. Oh and Janet Lawson from Darlo was also a good dancer and she could stomp too. She left the scene years ago and got into rock music

I've always watched the dancers Soo...still do. I got chatting to a bloke on Saturday night when I was out because of just this. He had been dancing and a young lad had approached him and said that his footwork was excellent and that it had given him so much pleasure watching him that he felt he had to come and say so. The bloke was blown away and had said he was just doing what he had been doing for many a year. Then he told me about it and that was the converstion-opener. I said it was nice to see the younger ones taking such an interest and being so respectful and polite. After that he got back on the floor and I watched him myself...impeccable footwork once again

Don't know mate but I can tell you that I was once knocked senseless when a big lad from Peterlee set about a-twirling next to me on the dancefloor and punched me in the head as he slowed it down...I had a big fat headache and was concussed Can't for the life of me remember his name but he usuaklly wore a black trilby hat But that's just the luck I have in life. Another time when I was in Halifax before travelling on to Wigan I was standing in a crowded pub when the lad in front of me and the lad behind me decided that it would be a good time to have a fight...with me sandwiched in the middle of em...took a blow to my right ear...ouch...came up like a cauliflower...my fella threw a few punches and got me out of the way...in that order...we moved on to another place...as I recall it was a wmc owned by the Batchelors...was sitting on a long bench minding my own business when a lad came over and meant to banjo the lad who was sitting next to me but got me instead...right on the side of me bonce...knocked me senseless...but I still made Wigan

The footwork always does it for me...keeps me locked in watching til it stops...you can keep everything else as far as I'm concerned...but I do like to see a bit of timely spinning when performed correctly

Hi Rick Just seen this hence delayed reply. I think you may be thinking of someone else. But I'm sure I must know you as I'm a Darlo lass so knew most of the Boro lot back in the day. God did we bump into each other again at Wigan on Saturday night...is that you?

Oh I like all manner of things dingy and seedy so will have to have a walk down there and let my imagination run riot. I met my old mate Kev in a similar place in Wigan...bet he was down the one you speak of on numerous occasions whilst frequenting the Torch...will have to ask if he has any tales to share

Well at least it got me a mention...that's me all over Paul...I don't do "cutting a long story short" very often My mate Kev has been on the phone today about the Reunion...he had a visit yesterday from our other pal Jane who is coming to the Reunion with us...he can't wait to be part of this...he's popping over tonight and wants to know all about you...so I've got some pics and your war and peace PM about your roots at the ready plus the website link and I shall report back with feedback later Gonna try for a sleepover somewhere nearby so we can all make the most of it come 24 Oct but judging by what I've read on here that may well be difficult...will see how the land lies this evening.

Bless you Paul...you'll have a brill time...we all will...I'm gonna have a look round the area as I've never ever been...always wanted to so this will be my chance...got the date diarised...nowt's gonna stop us being there with you all

That surprises me cos I got the impression you'd been there loads of times. Now my mate Kev reckons it wasn't as easy then as it is now to travel...not so many cars about and public transport not what it is today (yes I know that's debateable ) & money being tight...didn't seem to stop him mind...nor Officer Dibble from the stories I've heard Mind you in the general scheme of things the club didn't run for that long did it...and you hit the back end of it from the dates posted up on here...will have to pin said mate down to exactly how many times he went. As for me I was the grand old age of 12 in the early part of 1973 so there was never a hope in hell of me getting there

Blackpool Mecca Demolition Pictures
I remember the trees from way back when I used to go in the 70s...they were in the main room where the jazz funkateers used to go for the all-dayers and I used to lurk with me twirly whirly skirt and granny sandals Those trees were quite hip back in the day as I recall but I must admit they look a bit sad in those demolition pics and make me feel very old

Paul I would love to come to your soiree even though I was not part of it back in the day cos I was only a bairn and missed it all. A good friend of mine (Kev Joss...the old fart...but I love him really) is an old Torch Boy and I must admit (although not proud of it) that I never really took much interest in the venue from a historical point of view as I had no personal connection/affinity with the place although I love being regaled with the old tales about the nights that he spent their in his youth. However last year I read the info and looked at the pics on here and started taking a genuine interest in the place and also to feel that I had actually missed out on a special part of the scene. So if I may I just might kidnap Kev and bring him along with some other fellow reprobates so that he can re-live part of his misspent youth and we can bask in his glory, share in his enjoyment of past happy times and also gain an insight into what it was like as a venue back in the day. Oh and it would be great to meet some of you fellow Torch-ites too. If it could be a surprise it would be even better but knowing him he'll hear about it and will plan to be there anyway without any input from me in the way of a-plotting and a-scheming So please do keep me posted so I can make plans Oh and I have yet to listen to the CD as want to share the moment with my best mate but she is now a South Yorkshire tyke and every time I have visited her since I received the CD from you I've forgotten to take it with me so am holding back until I remember it, which should be next weekend. Note to self...remember disc for shared listening pleasure

You Show Me Yours And I'll Show You Mine
Hi Manus I remember you back in the day...didn't know you though. I don't know Pam and Lynn either but I knew Stewie really well...although he was a bit older than me. Neither of those two lasses can be Stewie's sister then as they were from Darlo...same as me. I haven't seen Stewie for years...the last time was in the 80s at a concert at Manchester Apollo...think it was Maze...he was living in Harrogate as I recall. Do you remember Mick Teasdale, Stewie's mate from Darlo?
