Bad bar staff it came to an end. Now building Grimsargh Village Hall. Oh my days did we get a treat. Chic rang me on morning of the event to ask as to what we would require. Informed him. 9. Event: Lea Hall Rugeley All-nighter Review: 5 stars by Eddiefoster. Event Date: 22 Jun 2024 I thoroughly enjoyed my first outing to Lea Miners, Id never visited the venue before and it was an honour to be asked to get behind the decks by Pep. The venue is fantastic, just perfectly suited to a nighter as the picture in the main thread suggests. A well attended night despite the big weekender, footy and BBQ weather and musically great all the way through IMO - varied offerings from all the DJs with a good mix for all. Looking forwards to my ... Tap to view the full event review

  14. Had the below press release passed on from label founder Eric Foss: Secret Stash Records now taking pre-orders for 250 unit hand numbered limited edition Bull & The Matadors 7" Hailing from East St. Louis, Illinois, Bull & the Matadors consisted of James Lafayette “Bull” Parks (born June 7, 1945), Milton Hardy, James Otis Love, and Robert Holmes. In 1968 they made the trek 4 hours Northeast to work with the legendary Leaner family and their Toddlin’ Town label. At that time the zany NBC-TV comedy program Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In was at its ratings zenith. One of its most popular sketches was a hilarious courtroom vignette that revolved around the punchline “Here comes the judge.” The judge was portrayed by Pigmeat Markham, a chitlin’ circuit comic who had made the routine famous at the Apollo Theatre. Pigmeat cashed in on the craze by cutting a full-fledged soul dance number logically titled “Here Comes The Judge” for Chess. Not to be outdone, Motown’s Shorty Long donned his own white wig and belted a different song by the same title for the label’s Soul subsidiary. Both entered the R&B charts that June, and both peaked at #4. Meanwhile, Toddlin’ Town writer/producer Andre Williams along with Leo Hutton cooked up their own Rowan & Martin tie-in, “The Funky Judge,” and got new Toddlin’ Town recruits, Bull & the Matadors to give it their own spin. Nationally distributed by Florence Greenberg’s Scepter Records in New York, “The Funky Judge” crashed the R&B hit parade at the end of August in 1968 and sailed all the way up to #9 R&B and #39 pop over the next three months, proving there was plenty of life in the judge routine yet. Despite the song’s excellent showing for the scrappy little label, the Leaner family chose not to issue the sequel “Where Did The Judge Go,” recorded that December... until now that is! According to Secret Stash founder, Eric Foss, “Both of these tracks, including the unissued side, were supposed to be on our Toddlin’ Town compilation. Sadly that project was permanently shelved over a songwriter/publisher dispute. Thankfully, however, these tracks were not part of that dispute and we are still able to get this unreleased tune pressed up for those who want it.” Bull And The Matadors’ “Funky Judge” B/W “Where Did The Judge Go'' is available exclusively at secretstashrecords.com. The hand numbered limited edition (only 250 units) 7” records will ship July 12, but preorders are now open. More info, images and purchase options via https://secretstashrecords.com/

Event Date: 15 Jun 2024 It has been some time since my last visit to Rugby and I can say safely that the music policy hasnt changed. If anybody was expecting music from the top 500 then there will be some disappointed customers. We arrived just before 20:00 and the music from the start was exceptional and to say rare and underplayed. The floor, which was a joy to dance on, was well occupied by the punters. Whilst talking about the punters, it was a joy to see a large young... Tap to view the full event review

  25. Soul Direction with word about a new addition to their label family and the first release... The Keved Project (Feat. Delbert Nelson) – “Life Has Been a Thief” / “Spread Love” – SDCO-1001 Official Release date : 28th June 2024 Press Release Soul Direction are pleased to announce a new member of the Family “Contempo Soul” series. This label will showcase more contemporary sounding soul from independent artists. Our first offering in conjunction with Kevin Edwards III, and with the help of Dave Thorley. The Keved Project (Feat. Delbert Nelson) – “Life Has Been a Thief” / “Spread Love” – SDCO-1001. Edwards was born in Hamtramck, Michigan in 1959. As a young boy listening to Jimi Hendrix play guitar on Band of Gypsies, he knew he wanted to be a guitar player. By 16 Edwards, was playing in a high school band and at local cabarets. In 1979 Edwards played with Sons, a local jazz band. The group played Top 40s in local venues and eventually opened for the nationally renowned group, Brainstorm, which recorded on the CBS label. Sons and Brainstorm merged in 1980. When Brainstorm broke up in the early '80s Edwards freelanced with several local groups. His career took a turn in 1984 when he began writing and recording his own music. Edwards drew from his experiences and the R & B and jazz classics he'd grown up listening to as his inspiration for writing. Two years later in 1986, Edwards expanded his skills even further when he started producing young local talent. He and a partner produced Rhapsody, a rap group that released several singles on the Giant Record Label. The year 1998 saw the beginning of a new era for Edwards when he and long-time friends Darryl Lee and Greg Nance formed Ground Level. Ground Level enjoyed tremendous success, opening for the Isley Brothers, LL Cool J, Roy Ayers, Ronnie Laws and the funk group Slave. The band received accolades and grew in popularity. In 2003 the band changed its name to Level Rizon, signifying its new status and the fact that they are no longer at "ground level." Level Rizon took a year off of performing to produce That Vibe. With That Vibe Edwards feels he has started a whole new genre of music he calls "NuUrban Soul." He describes NuUrban Soul as a unique blend of jazz-fusion and R & B that has not failed to delight audiences of all walks of life. Kevin has performed with the late Michael Henderson (R/B recording artist known for You are my Starship, Sending a Valentine, Wide Receiver) in 2014. Kevin has also has a certificate in Audio Engineering from the Recording Institute of Detroit, Associates of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology from Lawrence Technological University, and Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from ITT Tech. Kevin built, and operates his own recording studio, and is continuously writing and recording new music.. Kevin Edwards wants to make real music. "These days you don't hear a whole lot of quality music," said Edwards. "I wanted to make music like we listened to in the '70s. Authentic music with real instruments, not machines with a lot of programming and sampling." Delbert Nelson Singer, songwriter. Born September 16, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan an only child, Delbert was raised by his mother and grandparents. He became interested in music, while singing in the school choir at his elementary school. Delbert's list of musical accomplishments is very impressive. He sang background in the 4-time Grammy Award winning movie "Standing in the Shadows" of Motown and performed on the Jimmy Kimmel Show, live from the Gem Theatre at Super Bowl XL. He has been singing lead vocal for the Funk Brothers and continues to tour both nationally and internationally with them and has shared the stage with; Maxi Priest, Darlene Love, Angie Stone, Boosty Collins, Maxwell, Joan Osborn, Ben Harper, Ben E King, and Kim Weston just to name a few. Some of the other groups Delbert has sung for and with: Legacy, Flaming Fire, Sons, Brainstorm (CBS Recording Group) which in early 1978, he had the opportunity to perform with Peabo Bryson and Brainstorm on a Washington DC tour., the Isley Brothers (Tour), George Duke (Tour), Mary Wilson (Tour), Chain Reaction, Misty Love & The Motown Sounds, Night Journey, City Limits, Level Rizon, Inside Out, Next Generation Funk Brothers currently with The Shades of Blue Photos Scans Videos Purchase/Website Soul Direction 45 Page
