  1. Looks like with the options open to me I’m going to first have to figure out where the hole is oval, looks like an evening of drawing & measuring, although hopefully an off the shelf solution is out there
  2. I haven’t played the track out for ages for that reason (even before lock downs). At home I just keep nudging the record until it’s right, although it has been known for me to get fed up & just play something else I suppose the first thing to do is work out where the spindle should be before, then at least I’d know what part of the hole needs filling How on earth did that get out of the pressing plant🤣😂
  3. I tried tape around the adapter, which was when I discovered that the hole is off centre as well as oversized I’ll try the card option, but I was really looking for a more permanent solution
  4. Does anyone out there know how to fix a centre hole that’s worn ? As you can see from the picture the centre hole is about 2mm oversized & to make it worse it’s not the same distance all the way round so nudging in to place is hit and miss Can it be fixed without trashing the value of the record? Any help would be greatly appreciated Cheers
  5. That figures, that’s why they’re the same length I was looking to replace my UK release & saw all the edits. You have to hand it to the marketing team, just changing one word makes people think it’s about them
  6. Hi All, Can anyone help me with Philadelphia International Allstars “Let’s Clean Up The Ghetto“ I have found references to the following edits: Cincinnati, Detroit, Philadelphia, Washington, Atlanta, Cleveland, Dallas, Los Angeles, St Louis, Baltimore, San Francisco, Chicago, Houston, Miami My question is what is the difference between them? They’re all the same length so I know it’s not that. Also, which one (if any) was the edit we got in the UK? Thanks in advance
  7. Discogs is showing the release as legit, but as a US origin if it is a Jamaican release I’ll probably pass on it. A lot of the early Jamaican pressed Ska records I have are poor quality pressings, not sure if it’s the vinyl or the pressing machines, but VG+ seems to be as good as it gets & the guy selling this is claiming it to be NM
  8. Could the white issue be Jamaican?
  9. Doesn’t look like £95’s worth?
  10. Hi All, I’m considering buying a few records one of which is What Shall I Do by Frankie and the Classicals on. White Calla label. I’m being advised by the guy selling them that the track is a demo & he’s pointed me to a Discogs listing showing it as a legitimate release, whereas 45 Cat has it as a bootleg. Also I thought the Calla demo was blue & white? He’s asking legit copy prices, so I’d appreciate some pointers Thanks in advance
  11. Got a message through a couple of days ago that the Philly Soul Club NYE bash was sitll going ahead in Sheffield & spaces were available due to previous uncertainty so it's certainly taking effect, but Philly's ending at one so the as I understand it the nain restrictions won't come in to play
  12. Interesting to see that Doni Burdick went for £200 less this time than the same record a couple of months ago. Proves the point several people have been making that when two people get the moment and don’t want to lose
  13. I play vinyl at home & at soul events, but stick with CD at rallies because quite often we’re set up in rooms without stages & don’t want to damage my records from the occasional bumps to the decks
  14. I can see that as the value of the record is in the condition as well as the rarity so the more you play it the more you lose value
  15. I suppose the simple answer to the question seems to be…… it depends. Because grading appears to be variable depending upon where it comes from and the subjective view of the person grading it, the grade given may be better than expected. Also, I can see that some people may want a record just to own it It looks like it’s not about the grade someone else gives it, it’s a case of listen to the record and make your own grading
  16. I can understand if the play back is good. It makes perfect sense, cos for me it’s about how it sounds, but it’s a gamble
  17. Would a crack make it graded as “Poor” or does the play back quality lift the grading? I imagine a record graded as poor would sound like it had been cleaned with a Brillo pad
  18. I try to buy at VG+ as a minimum, but some people over grade and after listening to them I can’t comprehend what “Poor” sounds like
  19. I suppose it’s a different mind set, not mine, but it’s similar to me with scooters. I buy them that some would weigh in for scrap because I want them, but I can rebuild them whereas once scratched a record is scratched forever, which is why I ask the question
  20. So am I right in thinking that at that point it’s more about will be more about the ownership of the object than being able to play it?
  21. This is one possibly for dealers or collectors. Having moved on a dozen or so records this weekend to upgrade them due to some people’s gradings not matching mine (but that’s a different thread that I’m sure has been covered many times) I wondered: if I’m not happy to keep records that I would grade at VG, is there a place for low quality records, records that are graded at Poor or Fair. An insight would be appreciated
  22. It's getting tempting, especially as I'm so close
  23. Did anyone else notice that the same week as there was a topic on this forum extolling the virtues of the Demo over the Issue that it appears on JM’s auction or is it just me being cynical?
  24. Having seen the prices on his website, the guy is definitely out to make money. Maybe if he could do it with little effort he’d go for it
