  1. Thanks Kesalocasoul
I got the confirmation of L.J. Reynolds as lead on this.

I din't know there were so many issues.
I would love to know more about Tony Hester, this part:

"All that album was Tony. That was Tony Hester talking through that album." // Lenny Mayes: "In my opinion Tony Hester was a genius. When he passed away, it was a great loss - not only to the Dramatics, but to the music world. Period. He really made you feel nice and relaxed, when you went into the studio to record with him." Larry Demps: "I think the album was his cry for help.""

  2. Thanks Simon!

But you are not sure? I wanna use it in a book I'm writing, so need to be sure :-)

    Something like this:

"Several powerful vocalists deliver the message, but most prominent is xxx, whose deep and raw voice repeatedly cries out hoarsely and in falsetto, sending a shiver down your back."

  3. Hi everyone!

I know scanning or photographing labels takes time and effort, and I really appreciate those of you who’ve helped already. I'm almost there — I just need a few final scans (see list below) to complete my book.

I’d be incredibly grateful for your help. I'm more than happy to pay £10 per label for the trouble, and of course you’ll receive a credit in the book.

If you have any of these and can assist, please send me a PM!

    Thank you so much 🙏

    Hi everyone!
I’m currently seeking label scans for my forthcoming book, and I could really use your help!

    What’s the book about?
In short, the book explores how soul music gave power and voice to the African American struggle for civil rights and identity. It focuses on politically charged 45s from the 1960s and ’70s, highlighting how the lyrics reflected the diverse challenges Black Americans faced during pivotal moments in history.

    Ideal scan specifications:

    • US labels only

    • Clean labels with no writing or stickers

    • Minimum resolution: 1000x1000 pixels

    • 300 dpi

    • TIF format preferred, or uncompressed JPG

    • 1-inch black vinyl border around the label

    • Horizontally aligned (label centered)

If you don’t have access to a scanner, you can also use your phone camera. Just place the phone on a steady, flat surface and use the highest resolution setting.

If you’re able to contribute any relevant label scans, please send me a PM. Your support means a lot! I’m happy to offer £10 per scan to compensate you for your time.

    Kind regards,

    Tommy

  7. Hi again, everyone!

Thanks so much for the support so far – I couldn't do this without you! ❤️ However, I’m still missing some labels.

I know it’s a bit of extra work, so I’m happy to offer a small payment for each scan. Every contribution helps! If you have any of the labels I need, or know someone who does, please reach out! 🙏

    Kind regards,

I am seeking label scans for my forthcoming book, so I need help from you good, rare soul people!

Please have a look at the list to see if you can help me!

    What is the book about?

In short. The book looks at how soul music gave power and voice to the African American fight for civil rights and identity. It uses politically charged 45s from the 1960s and 70s to show how the lyrics spoke to the diverse struggles of black Americans during important times.

Ideal scans would have the following specifications:

    ·         US labels only

    ·         Clean labels without writing

    ·         Minimum size of 1000x1000 pixels or higher resolution

    ·         300 dpi

    ·         TIF format, if possible, otherwise uncompressed JPG

    ·         1-inch black vinyl border surrounding the label

    ·         Horizontal alignment (label centered)

If you don’t have a scanner, you can photograph the label with your phone camera. Please place the phone on a steady, flat surface and use the highest resolution setting (see picture)

If you are able to contribute any appropriate label scans, please send me a pm. Your help with this project is greatly appreciated.

    Best, Tommy

Ok. So he became a pastor. Then this must be him, found it on Facebook. Posted by Timothy Boston: "The legend himself Dr. Ralph E Beechum! Happy heavenly birthday pops! Hey played the bass just in case and I played the keys if you please!"

I think the article could be referring to Phillip Bailey who was born in Denver.

Aha, so Phillip Bailey was one of the members of Friends In Love together with the others who became SaSa Di. Wikipedia says he was invited in 1972 to join EWF, so it sounds plausible!

  13. I'm not an expert on EWF, but according to "BlackPast - African American History", they were formed in Chicago in1968 as Salty Peppers, and changed the band’s name to Earth, Wind & Fire in 1970, three years before this article.

Thanks! I did find a lot about Crested Butte Records, but not this. And yes, that was interesting info!
