  14. just done a little rekki in the vaults and it really got me thinking about the gospel records that have broke through to some of the more upfront northern rooms -ie holy disciples etc-dug a few out and done a little combo [not all the track]of some which really blow me away. Question is now the new more emancipated soulie is looking at this will we all become born again and focus on the music not the back biting lol[praise the lord]!!Seriously waht are peoples views on some of the gospel treasures out there and is there a place -there is in my record room over 500 now and counting -what do you think folks?? the five tracks are shirley caesar-fab violinaires-brooklyn allstars-and 2 others by the violinaiers!!seen a few on playlists on here folks so whats your views?? BAZ A
  15. ah thanks for that !! Sorry could not find the adress for that second hand store . If you stood outside the Galleria which is a shopping mall you go left on Westheimer rd which is also called Farmer to market rd. You just followed this road for about three miles where you came to some shops that sold like upmarket second hand clothes that young trendys liked to shop in. It was near to these. Sorry couldn't be much more specific.
  16. Pleased you got refunded whoever it was perhaps should of stated a refunds policy say within 7 days or 14 days -i firmly like to keep my deals private when i sell but always state full refunds if not happy-and try and describe the condition -ALWAYS ACCOMPANIED BY RECORDED DELIVERY -id say the vast majority on here are good eggs although theres always exceptions !! BAZ A
  17. ah thanks Ian looks like your strategy is paying off mate-not in Houston till oct -after the Austen fair so plenty of time to do my research etc-i know guy h had a top time there but its so hard now to try and pin people but this lock up scenario sounds very familiar-plus it just aint trendy anymore so i reckon some of the storage stuff will never surface-the whole Don Robey cat would of kept you busy mate! BAZ A Glad ya like 'em Baz. I figured that if I could get clearance from the labels to do 'em at this price then it can only be good for spreading the music a bit further then the confines of looking for the 7" singles etc, so figured a 'sampler' type series at the right price would be the way to go. Also I didn't want to compete with Ace/Kent because frankly they do the best job imaginable catering to connoisseurs and the serious collector market so I've gone the route of competitive pricing in the hope I can snag a large audience who'll try 'em for a fiver a pop. Hopefully it seems to be working as the series has really taken off in a number of territories so here's hoping I can get more of 'em out there......... Ya finding anything in Houston? I was there in '88 and snagged some decent bits and pieces but nothing phenomenal. There was an awful lot of stuff 'in storage' over there at the time which was frustrating 'cos there always seems to be a timing problem in getting people to open their bloody storage lock-ups. One guy dicked me around for 3 days before I had to split but not before describing the stuff he said he had which he reckoned included muliples across the whole Don Robey catalogue! Maybe they're still there........? Best of luck! Ian D
  18. id say job very well done -all will be making there way to milson pines this week-after i pay my 2 parking tickets for been a bad lad this week lol-judging by the tracklists theres some real thought gone into these compilations and a fiver well that adds to tremendous value imho!! BAZ A

  20. AH WONDERFUL THANKS MATE!! BAZ A Try and get to see Skipper Lee Frazier, Baz (if he's still alive). https://skipperlee.com/ He was a major promoter and DJ in Houston, and has lots of stories to tell (and a book about Archie Bell and the Drells to flog). He runs (or ran - I was there five years ago) a funeral parlour. Nice old geezer, bit suspicious at first but he let me attend a gospel funeral, which was a real experience, and then drove me to his house in his big SUV. The only problem with that was he lives/lived in a very poor neighbourhood, he only drove at about 10mph and he kept falling asleep at traffic lights; I got a bit nervous at the attention we were attracting. He sold me quite a lot of stuff out of the attic above his garage, inc quite a few things I had never seen or heard before, and there was a lot left. He also pointed me in the direction of a white record dealer who had two rooms full of stuff; again, I bought some bits but only got there on the day my flight left so I didn't have time to go through. I did all the record stores and obvious places and found nothing at all; I did a few yard sales and swap meets and stuff and got a few things on Sure Shot, Ovide (Skipper's ;abel, named after his son) and other locals, but nothing spectacular. Best of luck!
  21. ah thanks for that mate!! BAZ A I was in Houston a few years back and found a second hand record shop on the way to the Galleria. It also doubled up as a tatto parlour next door. I had a word with the guy in the shop who told me he wasn't the owner , but the guy who was had a garage full of records. I will look around to see if i can find you the adress somewhere and will get back tp you. I bought quite a few by O V Wright there.
  22. ah thanks mick hope your well mate!! BAZ A Hi Baz Didn't do any record shops when I was there but if you are staying over it might be worth checking out the Shakespear Pub - great Blues club - had a great night in there - lots of different beers and live Blues/Zydeco. Oscar Perry use to play there. Lofty
