I think it could of been Roger Banks who used to play the "The Lively Ones" by Brooks O'Dell in his dj set. That would of been in the late 80's early 90's when I heard him feature it. Also I remember "Standing Tall" getting played at the Winsford allnighters about that time as well.

Video: The Ritz Manchester - Rarest Of The Rare Allnighter 1994
Solidsoul replied to Source Team's topic in Soul Media
I went to nearly all of these Ritz Manchester allnighters in the 1990's and really enjoyed them all. Just about as good as it gets! Well done Mr Searling for putting them on -
Noony ricket tomorrow is a brand new day original
Solidsoul replied to Adydj's topic in Record Wants
It's has a great flipside as well "Player, Play On" -
Yes for a while Gerri Granger was the 4th before 8. Gerri Granger "I Go To Pieces" then the usual three.
-
Yes that's right. There was sometimes really four before eight as "I Go To Pieces" - Gerri Granger was added later on. It was always an emotional and atmospheric moment when they used to play them on a Sunday morning at the end of a busy all nighter.
-
Great set of records on that playlist from Phil Wainwrights dj spot. I wish more event reviews would list some of the records played like you have done Kev. It gives a better idea of what the event was like.

Anyone have the JM Auction Results From Yesterday?
Solidsoul replied to Scooterboy's topic in All About the SOUL
The Sunny and the Sunliners was a £15 to £20 set sale record for many years. It was regularly on USA ebay for not a lot. It's only gone up in the last few years. There must be a bit of a buzz on it at the moment! -

From pillowy pop to foot-stomping beats: 'The Supremes’
Solidsoul replied to Mal C's topic in All About the SOUL
Yes "You've been So Wonderful To Me" and "He's All I Got" should be in there. Of there hits, I would of liked to see "Nothing But Heartaches" included. But the biggest omission is the supreme "Stormy". -
Look's like the west coast issue. Doesn't turn up very often. Monarch pressing plant?
-
1970's Bootleg/repress has Delta # 101778 in the run out.
-
Crazy price, just shows what hype can do! As you will probably know, the Thunderbird release is a 1970's USA reissue made many years after the original 1960's Charger release. It's a bit like the early 1970's reissue of Dickie Wonder that was released on Golden Triangle label to coincide with the release of The Free Angela Davis L.P. Another USA reissue made several years after the original mid 60's Sound of Soul label originals. It mystifies me why people pay a lot of money for them instead of going for the originals!!

Just where is NS heading in the future?
Solidsoul replied to Hooker1951's topic in All About the SOUL
I think the coming of the internet ruined the proper underground Northern Soul scene. It's never been the same since around year 2000! That's when it started to change. But it can't be uninvented, so we are stuck with all the online commercialism and people who have just about learned it all from their online computer/phone. I feel the real Northern Soul scene is slipping away and we are more and more left with the description in your example No 1. -
The UK single is 1966. The USA L.P. is 1967. Looks like the UK single was the first issue of this great record! It's a pity there is no original USA 45 single.
-
-
The topic is not about what Northern Soul is!! The post topic is this!! "I'm gonna be quite detailed here, I'm interested in seeing a list of northern soul uk only 45s? Predominantly 60’s and some 70’s. a list of 45s that are uk only, no foreign release or USA,no album tracks, and an original song for that particular artist!"
-
I'm no UK label or foreign release expert so some of these may not fit your category. I Wanna Know - John E Paul - Decca When I'm Gonna Find Her - Mark Lloyd Parlophone. The Beautiful Night - Jimmy Thomas - Parlophone. Don't Pity Me - Sue Lynn - RCA Lost Summer Love - Lorraine Silver - Pye. Love is Wonderful -Paula Parfit - Beacon. One Minute Every Hour - John Miles - Orange. I Feel So Bad - Jackie Edwards - Island. Bok To Back - Fathers Angels - MGM Just some of the top of my head, hope some are some use to you. Some probably did come out somewhere other than UK!
-
This Joe Tex west coast demo looks right in every way! Monarch press with the right numbers and styrene profile etc. Also if it isn't an original, why is it very scarce!
-
Interesting pictures and label variations. The Joe Tex "You Better Believe It Baby" looks good, is it the west coast demo? I remember when this was a big record in Wigan Casino, played 2 or 3 times in the night, for several weeks! Nice original of Arnold Bryant with the two rings around Mercury. First heard Brooks & Jerry in Wigan when Dave Evison played it. He said "If you used to go to the Wheel you'll know this one, if you didn't, don't worry about the beginning"!
-
"I'll Never Say Goodbye". The Vontastics - Satellite. Original first issue of this great Chicago group Northern soul record. Mint- Label slightly off centre, but nice and clean. £125 plus postage. SOLD. "If Your Mother Only Knew" Miracles - Tamla. Original first issue. £30 plus postage. Ex condition but has a few very light clicks at the start. Still a very enjoyable record to listen to. "Come On Train"- Don Thomas - DJM. £20 plus post. Original UK first issue in excellent condition, but the centre piece has been removed. Wigan Casino classic and still packing the floors now!

Willie Kendrick’s “ change Your Ways “ RCA Demo
Solidsoul replied to Jules Moss's topic in Record Sales
Good flip side as well! -
Just about every great record that had ever been played on the Northern Soul scene since it's inception up until 1980, got played at Wigan Casino at one time or another. Yes there were some bad records played, but overall the great far outweighed the bad!
