  2. Hi everyone just been told in good faith that some of our well known dj's and sellers have been cancelled and their accom taken away, rooms down to 3, artist being cancelled by britannia who have taken over the weekender. Does anyone know what is going on as this is looking bad. Wont mention whos names but they are dj's and sellers who attend every year. We need answers so anyone who is involved with the weekender could you please post on here and facebook what is going on Thanks A very worried soulie who has attended the prestatyn weekender faithfully each year and who has currently paid £300 for two people.
  3. Can't find any mention of Sunburst Band on Midnight Hour website Midnight Hour Website Not sure whether there ever was any mind - any one else recall? Disappointed if they have been cancelled but still planning on having a great time Oh, and does anyone know whether we have to inform Pontins if we're planning on arriving Thursday. Seem to remember we've had to in previous years Kev

  6. This has just been posted on Joey Negro's Page & Sunburst bands page ! So dissapointed :-( Joey Negro We've just been told Sunburst Band will NOT be playing at Prestatyn Soul Weekender on March 13th.... Does anyone know if this is true >>
  7. Yes, mate, that's the one... ...there's also a nice version of 'Farewell Is a Lonely Sound' among the tracks that are making their official debut on this set.
  8. Just wanted to say that the Marv Johnson package that we have coming next month is worth buying for the fabulous unissued mid 60s fingersnapper 'There Goes A Lonely Man' alone! Although the rest of it's all good too, of course...
  9. regarding dance comps i came onto the scene in 1974 at 16 yrs old also went to the casino same year, ive allways been brought up to believe northern soul dancing is based on three catagories footwork, spinning and acrobats and is known for its spectacular style wich was ahead of its time in the 70s, i do realise that a few of us are knocking on a bit and cant do the fast spins or tricks anymore? im now in me 50s and still do a few tricks !!! so because were knocking on are you saying we should forget how we learnt years ago and just move our feet do an age factor? i won last years dance comp and only did minor tricks through out the comp as i personaly dont go over board on them but would not knock anybody who did? end of the day the best dancer will win he or she can win it on footwork alone ... there are some incredible footwork peeps still out there. Some people just like to sit and drink! others like to buy records and chat ! others like to dance! and some like to go in dance comps ! some folks like this r n b ! some like modern and some of us like to hear the real oldies you dont hear much nowadays! northern soul is there to meet everybodies tastes ,just enjoy youreselves and most of all .... ktf.
  10. I would think so, yes. He was with Motown a good long time, after all, and 'Cellarful Of Motown' has not really touched on Edwin - which might suggest to me that most of any unnissued's there might be are likely to be 70s...
  11. hope there are some more edwin starr cheesey or not
  12. im better than Carl Piper- you ok carl? chris fletcher
  13. I find the dance comp kinda ruins the evening (in my opinion) but agree it shouldn't all be about acrobatics more footwork and interpretation. I used to love watching Brian Jolley dance - great moves.
  14. Bloomin' heck, I did didn't I - I'd completely forgotten about that Paul.......I've a fair idea who's got it but tracking them down is another thing....now that would make a great YT clip
  15. That is the best dance video I have ever seen, hillarious.

  20. Basically, the way it works for us is that we ask Universal, and they either say yes or no! I'm sure that they must still have some plans of their own, as we have been declined a couple of projects that we've asked for - the Spinners, for example - so I would guess that they feel that some things should still be Universal-originated releases. We're trying to keep our requests for projects primarily to 'Golden Age' Motown (c. 1963 -1969) as other equally reputable reissue labels like Reel Music and David Nathan's new label (via Cherry Red) are digging into the 70s on a fairly regular basis now and we don't want to overlap unnecessarily with the fine work they're doing.. Of course, Universal over here did put out all of Glad and the lads' original Soul albums as 2-On-1's a few years ago - with, if memory serves, bonus tracks. From what I hear, there's not much else in the can - which would figure, as Motown actually released three (or was it four) GN albums of unissued material in the 70s, to compete with the group's Buddah albums. Next up, though is Marv Johnson which features Marv's complete Motown recordings, including some previously unissued sides. My colleague Mick Patrick also has a very nice Patrice Holloway compilation coming which will mix Motown and Capitol sides primarily. If you want to know what's up after that you'll need to 'Monitor' the situation carefully....:hatsoff2:
  21. ...Scroll up, read post two, and then book yourself in at Specsavers! The currently-available Satintones and the soon-come Contours will shortly be joined by the Marv Johnson project, and some others that I am not at liberty to discuss just now. All being well, there will be still more to join those we have already agreed with Universal, and scheduled for release in 2011. So far all of the projects in the piepeline are the work of Motown expert Keith Hughes, my Ace colleague and myself and it's not so much a 'glut' as more a well thought out schedule of releases...
