  1. Hello Brett, I respect your preference but I'd be a fool not to issue this when I already control the rights and there's an obvious demand for it to be available on a 7" single. Apart from 7" being the preferred format, the single has superior sound quality and more volume - and DJs won't have to mess around trying to cue up the LP track anymore (you know how difficult that was for some of them!) But it will be interesting to see how sales compare to previously unissued tracks such as Sam Dees, Eddie Floyd, Rozetta Johnson etc. It's too early to tell but so far it's looking good. Best wishes, Paul
  2. It's a thoughtful gesture. As individuals we can't really help much but as a community our collective donations can make a real difference. This is what I really like about the soulsource community.
  3. Rita Graham now added to the Saturday Night line-up And if that wasn't enough e have persuaded Jesse James to perform a song on Saturday Night as well.
  4. Good luck with the single Paul. Hope it makes some waves.........
  5. To be honest I'm not really a fan of previously available vinyl releases being re-issued, whatever the format, The LP is difficult to locate but not impossible, I prefer the concentration on the never before released tracks, the forgotten tapes, acetetes etc. Not a big deal, just a personal preference. Brett
  6. Hello Garv, Sandra wouldn't have been aware. The last product she would have known about was the Soulscape CD issue of her album, combined with the James Govan album. My deal for the Sandra Wright masters is with producer David Johnson, through him and Quin Ivy I also have the Quinvy / South Camp masters. I also control the publishing on 'I Come Running Back' and 'Please Don't Say Goodbye' through Millbrand Music, we also have the Quinvy catalogue. Most records I issue on my own labels are songs owned or controlled by Millbrand, so the labels are really a vehicle to expose the songs as much as the masters. For example, I did the Sam Dees and Rozetta Johnson deals when Millbrand controlled the Moonsong / Act One catalogues. When I did the Bobby Hutton single on Selecta I got a sync deal to put the song in a movie (the same happened with 'Train To Tampa' by Sam Dees). The artists are usually very pleased. Eddie Floyd was thrilled that 'Missing You was finally released, and just as he was about to visit the Uk again, and Rozetta was very excited about her Shotgun single and her Soulscape album. The last time I spoke with Rozetta she wasn't very well so I hope she's doing okay. I haven't spoke with Sam Dees for a while so I don't actually know how he feels about his Shotgun 45, but I hope he's pleased. Best wishes, Paul
  7. SANDRA WRIGHT was born in Memphis on October 1st, 1948. Her first two singles were recorded in Muscle Shoals (Sandra's vocals were overdubbed in Nashville) and released on Decca's Coral subsidiary in 1968 and 1969. Two further 45s were issued on the Stax-owned Truth label, in 1974 and 1975, but her Wounded Woman LP was shelved until 1989. Sandra also released a 1986 single on T-Jaye Records in Nashville and fronted her own band. She passed away on January 11th, 2010. Hi Paul I really enjoy the info & background you add to your newly released records, i was just wondering if Sandra Wright was aware of your intended release before her passing. Its a general question of all the releases, it interests me to know how the artists react & what feedback you get when a record that they may have long forgotten about gets new interest this side of the pond.

  12. Hello, Here's some info from the press release... NEW RELEASE SANDRA WRIGHT I Come Running Back / Please Don't Say Goodbye Shotgun SHOT 106 Release date: 31 January 2011 Distribution: SELREC 'I Come Running Back' is already a big favourite with soul fans but this is the first time it has been released as a single. It was one of nine tracks Sandra recorded with producer David Johnson at Broadway Sound (formerly Quinvy) in Muscle Shoals in 1974. The masters were leased to Stax for an album project but only two singles were issued (on the Truth subsidiary which Stax formed to circumvent their distribution deal with CBS) before the company collapsed in bankruptcy in December 1975. The Wounded Woman album was eventually released in the UK in 1989 and many DJs and soul fans picked up on 'I Come Running Back'. Its popularity has grown to such an extent that it now warrants release as a single. HOW TO ORDER Selecta and Shotgun singles are stocked by specialist outlets worldwide and can also be ordered direct from SELREC info@selectarecords.com

  15. That's also Wanda Young Rogers singing with the Andantes. As with '...Magician' Gladys was not even in the studio when this track was recorded. Please, if you've going to post a tune up in tribute, at least have courtesy to check who the lead vocalist is. Here, looking great and miming to her final Marvelettes A side, is Gladys Horton: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKQbpSLW1jE
