  1. Nice bit of editing....shame you missed the bit about other scenes not being into O.V.O. It strikes me that it would be pointless re-issuing something that is cheap and readily available on original so,is the whole point of putting rare records to re-issue,for the benefit of exposing the song to the masses or to allow people who don't care to spend their hard earned on original ,but need one to be able to play to the ever demanding crowd. Again i must remind you, the need to get into a debate about the authenticity of the medium is not of interest today. It's about what is the point of re-issuing records that have already been re-issued ,booted ,are available on every other medium known to man.
  2. can i just ask how can a Weee Willie have 12 inch's
  3. we will see ya there sian, time to celebrate steve's Birthday, can't wait
  4. My initial reaction was great, but now I find myself agreeing with you Nev. These must be aimed at the wider market who want to own vinyl to play at home but maybe don't DJ and feel uncomfortable about owning boots, or who DJ at oldies dos exclusively. But like Soulman said earlier, some of these have already been released legally and are widely owned. The reasons for doing this are unclear, unless it's just to make money by sticking to the big anthems. A shame, but fair enough I suppose, we all have to eat. It just would have been nice if one of the most groundbreaking DJs in northern soul history had given us something a bit different.
  5. Never ceases to amaze how it all depends on who is doing it ,as to how peoples views/comments are conveyed. Richard as we all know as been a fully paid up member of the "northern soul "scene for as long as i can remember ..has been a major influence on the soul scene in general ...but i honestly do think the people on this thread who have dared to question his reasons fo doing this are so right. Back to back ,big club dancefloor anthems, each with thier own personal highly collectable bag ....where's the market ?? Break it down ......an ageing scene ,already with original copies .....already re-issues.....already boot's .......and dare i say it ....Cd after cd compilation with all the well known anthem sounds . I'm not gonna go down the well worn o'v.o floorshow but seriously why would you rush out and buy a re-issue of something that most people already have on one format or another?? I would love to see anyone walk out in front of the Dragons den with a box full of classy looking re-issue 45's in 2010 . The question is nothing to do with the integrity of Richard ,a true legend imho ,but simply "why bother" ?? Why not do what JAZZMAN does? ,release things that are rare and expensive on original but currently indemand , thus providing a service that's needed .. as i was made aware of recently by fryer ...not every scene requires O.V.O
  6. richard is a man of integrity.........all his recording deals over the years have been legal and kosher. along with ady and tony rounce, the work and love put into the scene via re releases is astronomical.
  7. I quite fancy a copy of Epitome of Sound, but i'm not prepared to pay £100 for it on Sandbag so this a good, cheap, and legal alternative in my opinion. For those of us who want rare titles but aren't prepared to buy and play boots I think this can only be a good thing. Here's a link to Richard's page here
  8. Its gonna be one hell of a PARTY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CANT WAIT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unfortunately we didnt make last year - any spare passes (x2) anyone???? if so please contact me and will send the money quickly. Thanks Doris/Sue
  9. i think royalties from the other single will be paid......mr roberts owns the tapes.
  10. Yeah but does Mel Britt and Ruby Andrews etc get their royalties etc from Mr Searlings company!
  11. please pass on my apologies to your good woman jane who got a fright when i nearly landed in her lap at the back of the main room. i usually try to fall between the tables rather than on them.
  12. The inclusion of Newby & Johnson "Sweet Happiness" dates the "lost tape" as 1970 at the earliest. To say all that stuff was occuring in Normanton in 67 is just wishful thinking
  13. Behind the Groove....what a bloody tune...R I P soul sis...xxx
  14. THIS WILL BE A CLASS NIGHTER, cant think of 2 better people to drive this forward than Sean and Karl, the music will be second to none and the DJ's will make sure its a night to remember. "MUSIC IS MY FIRST LOVE" (but dont tell karen!!!!!) LETS GET IT ON
  15. A sad day . I liked her recordings , especially the one below . RIP . Malc
  16. Didn't care much for her voice, or for any of her records apart from 'Don't Look Back', but it's still sad that she died so young and that she leaves a family to greive for her...
  17. As someone else has mentioned, Pete Stringfellow ran the Mojo Club in Sheffield - NOT the Marquee. How could someone get that SO wrong if they went there? He also did some gigs at the Place in Wakefield after the Mojo closed, and THAT was the place to go to back then. The Tin Chicken was NOT called the TINNED Chicken, and Normanton Baths was more like 1970 than 1967. If we are gonna nostalgise, can we at least check the facts?
  18. wanted this for such a long time,
  19. Great stuff Dave : many thanks for posting . I have fond memories of both The Tin Chicken and Normanton Baths . I lived in Leeds at the time of the venues going , and we were lucky , as we usually had the luxury of travelling with mates in a car one of them owned , a Triumph Herald . On the odd occasions when when our driver could not make it ( shift work at Barnbow tank factory ) , we made the journey by public transport . Which , despite both towns being relatively near to Leeds , took a lifetime to get there , but the reward always outweighed the effort . Malc
  20. Looking forward to reading this
  21. it is good to see it all printed up. it refresher's the memory it is also good to see bobby 33 is back on the floor. the old man
  22. hi pete stringfellow played the black cat(bluessingers) the mojo was his main club where he played what were to become northern soul classics as he had a contact in chicago sending all the then latest soul recordsfrom 1965 to 1968 and all the singers such as stevie wonder ,ike and tina turner, miracles and around a 100 morebig soul names, these records that he played such as looking for you and all willie mitchells releases in 1966 became the basis of northern soul collections, some 5 years after the mojo was shut down by sheffield council after several large scale drug raids. the marquee was on wardour street in london and it was also a soul club /dance hall but tended to have the posh kids going there when i was a member. in65.p.s. tinned chicken was a niter i went to twice and my mate married a lass from there in 69, regards roggert-sheffield
