  1. PERSONALLY, ALWAYS LIKED THIS... BUT IT'S BEEN A DEAD RECORD AS FAR BACK AS I CAN REMEMBER, CERTAINLY CAN'T RECALL HEARING IT OUT ANYWHERE.

    BRI PINCH

My mate reckons their 'Where Did I Go Wrong' on Atlantic is doing the business at the moment??? Used to be £40 but he's saying £100 now!

    ohmy.gif hmm....but I bought it around 1996 from Mick Smith for 60 squit. :D

Yeah, that'd be about right mate. Neal Bull used to deal with Mick Smith quite a lot then, especially at the Norwich V.I.P record fairs which Mick has a regular stall on. Just done a recap in my head and it must have been about 14/15 years ago that I found it at my old King's Lynn Council depot (we're no longer there), Neal Bull got it off me after about a week of me having it. The Mick Smith connection really does convince me it was that copy.

    But I don't suppose I can be 100% huh.gif

  3. Interesting viphitman, where did you get that Embers 45?, that's definitely my old copy that I found on a rubbish heap with a load of other 45s in a cardboard box. Rescued it just before the JCB was gonna grab the box and put it in the skip:ohmy:!!!!

Anyway, Neal Bull from Peterborough got it off me in a trade about 10 years ago! I recognise the copy you've put up, I never forget records I've had

  4. How would read, for the bootleg description in Manship's Bootleg Guide: "Red label moulded over onto vinyl. Easiest way to stop the bootleg is the B-side is credited to to "The Manhattans".

I'd think the bootleg is credited to the Manhattans right?

So based on that I get the following record (eBayer claiming it is original), and it is an awfully fishy looking thing. I'm a little new to the game but I think this label is moulded over onto the vinyl. But B side credited to "Bridges-Knight-Eaton" though. Hmmm, oh wait...could it mean Manship meant "B-side is credited to "The Manhattans" [ON THE ORIGINAL!]". Grrr.

So yeah...I just bought myself a boot ya? Luckily I didn't pay a lot, not too valuable a record.

You can clearly see the original numbering stamped in the run out groove on your 45.

Yeah that has the duet version but for some reason, the bootleggers extended the intro and it sounds very amateurish.

Julian Covey on the B side I think.

Not Julian Covey on the flip but the original (non duet) version Pete.

Interesting that the 'Magic' boot has the WI (Island) UK stamp in the run out.

  6. Suppose theres thousands, and being one of those who plays the flip first on receipt of records, i have heard my fair sharelaugh.gif one that springs to mind, only cos i played it the other day FOUR CHAPS-WILL YOU OR WON`T YOU biggrin.gif

The the exact one that initially came to my mind too! Absolutey dire!

  7. Tommy Frontera - You're My Leading Lady - Hi-Lite....absolutely shagged! Some idiot tried 'skimming' it and the sound quality is almost in-audible. angry.gif Should have posted it back but it was cheap as chips so what did I expect really!!! rolleyes.gif

  8. Bought nearly a whole collection of 'Shades Of Soul' quite a few years back now for £70....well worth it! Think I got them from someone on here???

Definitely my favourite of all those 'fanzine' style mags.

In addition to Ken Cox's East Aglian Soul Club promotions this was the other main promotion I DJ'd for at the time, run by a loveable rogue called 'Tiny'.

Myself & Nev were residents but other regular spinners included Kev Draper & Tony Worot in addition to Soul Sam & Hammy who have already been mentioned, with both Jonathan & Rob Smith supplementing from time to time.

Always a great day at the YMCA.. Always packed to the rafters and a joy to see a non-stop, heaving dance floor. And, in addition to the hi-waister/baggie brigade, full of fashions that covered the skinhead and mod fraternity's in abundance .

    Them were the days..

    Fingers

How right you are Johnny!! I recall seeing a 'Mod' for the very first time standing on the steps outside the YMCA on my first alldayer venture, must have been late '78 or early '79. He had a Blue Beat hat on and looked really cool! I also remember them playing 'Al Capone' by Prince Buster that day too!

Think the Tiny who you refer to was known as 'Tiny K' and he was the local D.J who had his own disco set and did other pop nights and disco's around the area. In fact he always used to claim that he introduced 'Northern Soul' to King's Lynn!!! rolleyes.gif

  10. There's also 'Mo Gorilla' on another of their Cortland 45's (115), it's the flip of 'Feeling Of A Kiss', it's in my box somewhere. Also 'Go Go Gorilla' on another of their releases. Guess the 'Gorilla' sold well for them?

  11. gr8 record grant,,,managed to get a super rare issue of this ,,,,cost me £30 wud ave paid double,,,,,love this group....

Me too! Paid the same amount for the easier to get demo about 7 years ago now!

  12. ...And if you mean the Isley Bros, I sure I got it on Tamla Motown L.P, will check later when I'm at home, I sure it came out a USA special edition 7" on Tamla to promote a box set maybe 6-7 years ago, I know it was booted, I think The Monitors 'Crying in the night' was on the flip side, or Dee Dee sharp 'What kind of lady' again will check it out later

    Steve

Yeah, Monitors on the flip side of the 7" bootleg Steve. Red label 'Soul Beat' I think? I got a copy somewhere.

  13. Recently picked up the Chevrons 'Love, I Love You' on MMC (first label) for £16...a bargain, so decided to sell my Independence labelled one (mint) on ebay. It books at nigh on £100.

A great Blue-Eyed romper stomper of a tune and I really thought this would go for at least £50/60 but only got £23 for it!! huh.gif ...are prices down on this tune? Thought it was picking up spins?
