  1. John is this for real £300 is close to the going rate for a boot...

this must be the most expensive boot out there....

    :)unsure.gif

Think he means if the original is say, £800, then obviously £300 is nearer to a £20 boot!!!

  2. Been after these for a while but always spend me money meantimes  - these are wants for next month so will send postdated cheque so budget spent before I get it, so I can't spend it when I do get it 'cos unsure.gif err - well it's worked for Gordon Brown anyway:

Pm me if you have the following and would like to exchange for proper British Stirling while it still means something:

Oliver Norman - Drowning in my own despair - Decca preferably

Millionaires - And the rains came - Specialty (the cheaper one :D )

Millionaires - Never for me - Philips or Mercury?

Millionaires - Cherry Baby - Bunny

Enchantments - I'm in love with your daughter - Joker

All of these are for playing so no need for minters, in fact as long as they play good I'll be interested no matter their appearance if you've got a little, ahem, carried away with the stroking and caressing,

    Thanks for looking

Original of Enchantments is on Faro, the Joker 45 came with a couple of other tracks and is a boot. Mind, think it's got Peanut Duck on the flip so worth having as that was never released any other way.

  3. Not a bad uptempo dancer - just wondered if it was known - probably blue eyed.

MIKE ANCONA & THE JOKERS - BOUND FOR LOVE - CHASE 6001 (Texas label?)

mmm, that's interesting Pete, I have a copy of Chase 6000 'MIKE & THE JOKERS - There's Got To Be A Girl' uptempo Northern (almost definitely blue-eyed).....got it from the States a few years back, it's in Manship's guide for £75.....obviously the same group as your one but Mike has dropped his surname...

have to say, your one isn't listed at all...

  4. Agree with Sweet Sherry, and having Rare Stamps since the early 70's, I have always been a fan of Baby Please Come Home which also came out on Contempo.

As for the Montclairs, from my first hearing at the Mecca this is a record I never tire of hearing and not a bad B side either.

Sure I read somewhere that 'Sweet Sherry' from the Volt/Stax l.p is the first take and differs slightly from the UK Contempo 45. Anyone confirm this?

Also, don't forget J.J's 'To An Early Grave' on contempo, nice mid-tempo.

  5. can't be that rare is it rolleyes.gif

Bob Marshall & the Crystals 'You Got Me Crying'...the best release by them and it's a B side!!! I've been after a copy for a while now, seen the other 2 on L-Rev a few times but this one's eluding me!

    good luck.

  6. I actually suggested the thing about his father (jokingly) first, before Ian's post. I would like to point out the following things:

    1) the vocalist does sound white, but it's very difficult to tell 100% for anything and this isn't one of those 100% clear cut cases

    2) even if his dad was black and was in the group, that doesn't mean that the lead singer was not white. Especially if they were more of a pop / garage type group, it is not totally unlikely that they were not a mixed group. The backup singers do sound sort of white to me too, but who knows.

    3) he does not have to be adopted for his dad to be white, his biological father could be white.

But he claims his father WAS the LEAD SINGER!

  7. Don't think so. If memory seves Onyx Eddie Day (as opposed to Eddie Daye) is white, Carolina artist. Can't be bothered to check the box, but isn't the flip "Summers gone" ?

Completely right Trevski on all counts.

  8. Obviously you dont get it!!.........me i'm not bothered i like it pop stock and both barrels, but then i don't listen to this every day till i get sick of it and i go to places that probberly won't play it,same with all me records don't have a hot box just loads of boxes with new ones and old ones all mixed up and when asked to do a set i have to go through em' all again,i like lt like that none of my records ever feel neglected are are all very happy.

Is that a straight jacket you're wearing in your pic Ken?

  9. You're all missing the point..........it's not about colour it's about the singing style and the the conviction and emotion that shouts out through the lyrics.

Black or white the MVP's sang a pop song, unlike the groups like the Magnificent Men who sang soul with conviction and emotion.

If you don't get it, then maybe you never will.......

Definitely agree with you there! One of the best blue-eyed soul outfits of the 60's. Great group.

  10. Hi everyone....can anyone give me a clue of it´s current value??? Mint/Ex copy

    I´m thinking of selling it....

    Cheers

Well a fair price would be anywhere between £60/100. Manship has it listed @ £150.

I traded an ex copy for £60 after picking it up on a car boot for 10p.

I wanted another copy and bought a mint(ish) one about 3 years ago for £50 and I thought that was a bargain! I snatched the sellers hand off!

    I rate it.

    Hope this has helped,

    John

  11. the original has a great version of `39 -21-46`on the flip. the reissue has `got to be

    a reason` instrumental doesn`t it

    dave

Yep, instrumental on the flip of the second issue.

By the way Dave, slightly off topic, loving your avatar mate, great tune! Thought I'd drop that in defence of J.Jama and all the slagging off it seems to be getting on this site.
