78's don't travel well by post and for some reason i think interest has fallen off in recent years, my mate in london told me the 78 dealers don't bother to go much nowadays to the rock and roll record fair in great portman st. because no one was buying. joe.
  2. Eddie Holland Jamie C/w Take A Chance On Me a magnificent 1962 UK press in spectacular condition. Barrett Strong and William Mickey Stevenson’s collaboration with Motown’s voice-extraordinaire, provided Eddie with his first USA chart hit that actually rose higher in the USA “pop” charts and the R&B one.. an early sign of Motown’s ability to attract the American white music buyers. But in England in 1962 Motown was still a sound about to be discovered and this single fell into instant obscurity, as Eddie Holland was an unknown and neither the word “Motown” or “Jobette Music” is anywhere to be see on the Fontana label. Click the soundfile and experience a wondrous vocal of a man that was not comfortable as a stage act - if he was, then maybe his glittering career as a stand-out lyricist would maybe not have taken off so dramatically. If like, the majority of our auction members, condition is the paramount factor whilst considering your bid; here is the scrutinized description. Both labels are immaculate, showing on the merest sign of spindle penetration. A-side vinyl at first glance is Mint - but as we tilt and adjust position in strong light a few very light surface blemished are revealed - visually a string Ex+ plays Mint -. Flipside vinyl has a few of wispy hairline marks again EX+ plays Mint - . Sleeve is free of any flaws - no writing, no tears no stains.. A beautiful offering from a superior vocalist and an incomparable writer of songs. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 156.00 Marvin Gay Witchcraft C/w Masquerade (is Over) 30 Years since this greast man passed & this is by far Marvin’s RAREST 45! Those of you serious about collecting MOTOWN will already know this is without quest Marvin Gaye’s rarest 45.. Promo ONLY - seldom if ever seen for sale - made to promote his 1961 Tamla 221 album “Soul Moods Of Marvin Gaye. It is a but of a mystery why the label would spell his name GAY but this is the only time in Motown release they have credited his name with the “E”. In my lifetime I’ve only ever encountered 2 other copies before and neither were any where near this sparkling condition. Both label are flawless, A-side vinyl is a strong clean Mint - flipside vinyl carries a minuscule light surface blemish. Whether you be a Motown-Completest, a Marvin Gae devotee or just like to own some of the world’;s rarest most-desirable records carrying serious kudos and historical interest; You will not get a chance to own a finer copy. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 161.00 Exceptions Baby You Know I Need You C/w The Look In Her Eyes YOU MUST PLAY THIS - PREPARE TO BE ASTONISHED - TWICE OVER! This title has been a major part of my DJ sets for ever - because it is a sensational piece of neglected Northern Soul that for me always without fails gets peeps a’peeping and asking what t is. I’ll tell you what is it, it is finely crafted Philadelphia vocal-group Northern Soul on both sides. It’s rare ad extremely elusive in acceptable condition - most collector/ DJ’s would never part - as it is a guaranteed back-up for those spots that leave you thinking 1/2 way through that you’re being predictable and playing it safe. I rate this disc very highly indeed, quality Northern Soul that will stay in your head all week - you will find yourself trying to sing the impossible pitches and variations of the word “BABY” Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 460.00 Blossom Hutchins It's Getting Me Down As it’s officially Spring have a bit of “Blossom” SENSATIONAL GIRL NORTHERN SOUL! If this was played at Wigan in the 70s it would have achieved Casino-Immortality! It of course wasn’t played there or any other All Niter for that matter because it is absolutely BEYOND-RARE! but impossible-rarity is only part of it’s appeal - this is perfect All-niter nectar atmospheric dancer with instrumental breaks in all the right places - with a unique-pick-up-feel to make the dancers stay put. For the inevitable onslaught of collectors and DJ’s who will say they owned and played it top death at their local Working Men’s Club - but swapped it to their best mate for a vg- copy of The Javells - Nothin’ Else To Say - then you are a total moron for letting it out of you possession. THIS IS NORTHERN SOUL that in the hands crowd-delighting DJ’s of the status of King “Ginger”, Sean Chapman or Nige Brown it would rocket to the heights that the 70s was deprived of. Since 1965 this magical Girl Northern Soul offering has stayed so rare, it’s is certainly my first copy and will no doubt be many other collectors too.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 439.00 Jackie Wilson Somebody Up There Likes You + 3 Jackie Wilson fans will be pleased to know this 1968 Mexican 4 track EP is so very, cleran tidy - Mint- / Mint - / Mint - Northern Soul DJ & Collectors will have eyebrows raised at the thought of owning his wonder “Somebody Up There Likes You” available as a 7” disc. Fabulous sound quality on this superior dance offering.. miss it at your peril because Mexican vinyl is not usually seen - near to “new” condition and the sleeves are not either. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 141.00
  3. Jaybirds Somebody Help Me C/w The Right Kind One of the very first cover-ups according to “Dave” he said he heard this unforgettable take on the Spencer Davis Group MOD monster and the DJ refused to tell him who the artist was.. Likewise I was no wiser in 1970 on my first visit to “The Brit Club” Nottingham when it was played more than once that evening but the DJ’s never said a word all night!! I went home like Dave none the wiser, but with an aching need for ownership! Before you today is the FIRST press in flawless “Dave-like” condition with the notable “no writer credits” label design - it is alleged that SUE had to repress with writer credits after nudge from Jackie Edwards…maybe true? A MOD & Wheel tune a huge significance & memories.. but today check out that Foot-To-The-Floor Northern Soul instrumental on the flipside - utterly awesome legitimate dancer - impressive or what - begging for the same exposure today that the “Somebody Help Me” got back in our beginnings. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 210.00 Jimmy Moore Church Street Sally Jimmy Moore is about to take you an R&B “Alton Towers style” ride into Northern Soul oblivion! Hang on for dear life, as Jimmy’s snarling rumbling vocal wades through a soup of Harmonica., horns and squawking Church Street ladies as Frank Guida and Lenis Guess yet again push the boundaries of studio excellence. So darn potent, it instantly penetrates the body sparking your brain into frantic-dance-mode! This record has everything a great Northern Soul spin should have, drenched in attitude not only from the insane vocal but also the deranged sax break which rips right into the heart of the production. THIS IS NOT ONLY NORTHERN SOUL - IT’S A MOOD CHANGING SCORCHER! Not forgetting the mad-woman’s rap right at the end - BRILLIANT! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 614.00 R & B Scene Volume 2 No. 1 50 years old last September THE NORTHERN SOUL scene. and here is Roger Eagle magazine that reviewed, advised and accurately documented it’s growth through the 60s. From important adverts like the St. Louis Union - billing themselves as “The Group On The Northern Soul Scene” to back page Twisted Wheel adverts this magazine is the most important series for an insight into our past. It also includes pictures and bio’s of Joe Tex, Bobby Bland, Solomon Burke, The Drifters, Carla Thomas,Don Covay, ZOOT MONEY, Lary Williams & Johnny Watson, James Brown, Sonny Boy Williamson..beautiful group shot of The Moonglows, Little Richard & Little Esther Philips. Not to mention a full page of British SUE release reviews. Historical & RARE in the extreme PS soundfile is Decca 12318 St. Louis Union - Respect - the group released it a year later in 1966…hard work and advertising paid off. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 35.00 Jimmy Radcliffe Long After Tonight Is All Over As a young gas fitter just starting my first year at Southfields college Leicester I met many other youngsters within those walls who were into Soul music, and equally as many vinyl-hunters as I scoured the market stalls & record shops of that vibrant city. In 1970 my knowledge was minuscule, but I do remember an apprentice from Daventry who brought in a cassette to the workshop full of “Wheel” sounds he elder brother had taped - MIcky Lee Lane’s “Hey Sah Lo Ney” was the most memorable tune on it. I also remember meeting a university student who introduced me to Jimmy Radcliffe’s - After Tonight Is All Over -. He was ecstatic to own his copy he paid £4.00 for. I listened to it in A.T. Brown’s second hand vinyl-emporium. I thought what is this guy on? You can’t dance to that? I don’t like it at all… Then within months I was starting to grasp the wide spectrum, that even then the Northern Soul sound encompassed. It was the sound of the NS Beat Ballad! A record you played at the end of the night - a last record farewell to your evening. Like everybody, it is now a firm favourite, a never tire of listen, that instantly ignites euphoric recall of my teenage years. As it will for all you 60+ Wheelers or you late 50s Wigan Casino faithful.. it is after all a cast in stone NS anthem. This copy came from “Dave” and as you can see he bought it at his electrical shop Alladins-cave as a brand new release it is immaculate and still lives in it’s original birth-sleeve - one for those who seek Provence & perfection whilst chasing the “Greats” Vinyl forensic inspection reveals just a few very light whispy hairlines in strong light - from being cherished like a record of this should be… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 131.00 Victors Hurt C/w Not Only A Girl Knows HARTHON productions - without question one of the greatest soul-teams to ever grace a studio. A whisker behind “PIED PIPER” in quality and output. But certainly in terms of Northern Soul these guys were the East Coast’s best! Luther Randolph, Babara Mason, Eddie Holman, Johnny Stiles, Norman Harris, James Solomon, Jesse James to name but a few who made valuable contributions to this now revered gathering. So check out this double helping of the HARTHON SOUND - the recordings will speak so much more than I ever could - this is one of those records that will leave you wondering why it isn’t played more than “Sam & Kitty” But you know the answer to that already.. this eye-catching STOCK copy is totally FLAWLESS!! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 358.00
  4. Judy Street What Click the soundfile to be transported back in time to the Halcyon days of Northern Soul! This is a Wigan Casino ANTHEM! in jaw-dropping condition. This listing is for the growing cult of acquiring Northern Soul Top 500 classic in the finest condition - this 45 is like new in ever way. Perfect unfingered labels - and vinyl you could use for reflecting your morning shave in. You will not locate a finer one - Mint - is being critical For the white-biased prejudiced NS collector, remember the man behind this session was H. B. Barnum, the backing girls were the highly regarded “Blossoms” and also not forgetting that in the summer of 1968 Judy Street was a Californian MOD of head turning beauty… What’s not to like? Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 441.00 Motherfox Fallen Into Love A Soulful dance trophy of huge reputation! A fanfare of trumpets signal the start of a superior dance experience. A validated serious rarity that has remained insanely elusive for decades and decades, in fact almost since it’s 1981 Chicago release, this stunning tune fell off the radar. If your want your day lifting up - click on this inspiring horn propelled dance tune that skillfully avoids all the crass “disco” influences and manages to deliver a compelling dance tune that has sat at the top of DJ wants list for what seems like ever. We are not ashamed it is our first copy on the auction this century - assure rarity, assure dancefloor delight and assume flawless condition. Do not pass by… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 635.00 Rainy Days Anything I Would Do For You This weeks Sweet Soul offering is something of a mystery - hidden away on the flipside of 1976 British release. A New York production that we can find no evidence of a USA release - please do tell us if “Whiter Flame” production actually got a USA press. Parent company President Records UK release several UK only American productions as they acquired the rights to many labels and seemed to release what pleased the controllers ear. This example is more than pleasing - it is an exquisite Sweet Soul experience from the very top-drawer,with a soaring falsetto rising at all the right times complimenting the creamy lead. THIS IS SWEET SOUL AT IT’S VERY BEST shrouded in mystery as there are no writer or producer credits and the “A” is so bad I can’t even bring myself to soundfile it - and it’s sounds suspiciously like a UK production. Any light that can be shed of this Sweet Soul “Ghost” is most welcome at this moment in time my instincts are that the horrid A-side is by a different group - and this “masterpiece” was used to fill the otherwise blank b-side - but that brings us no nearer to who-what or why this “New York” 45 surfaced briefly in the UK. Very glad it did though because it is truly beautiful Soul… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 136.00 K. L. Hamilton I'm Trying C/w Rip (you're In Good Hands) Street level North Carolina modern Soul. Jazzy falsetto led Soulful Stepper with a vocal group purring out subtle harming in the background. This is classy stuff with injections of Jazz, subtle funky riff, discreetly swirling hammond prompting the rhythm. Flip it over a Boogie dance groove, as the arrangement hardens, the vocal deepens, and the slick harmony group step up for a larger piece of the action. A RARE 45 complete with picture sleeve tat will please two different camps - The Soulful “Essence” minde Rare-Soul DJ / Collectors and of course the European Boogie devotees.. Only our second copy this century - so no easy find this one. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 71.00 Judy Hughes Fine, Fine, Fine C/w Crazy For You Chester Pipkin a generous supplier of quality 60’s dance soul with one of his rarest creations - the Richard Searling Wigan Casino iconic-cover-up “Judy Street - He’s So Fine” Oh I remember all too well, the pain and frustration of hearing all Richard astonishing cover ups and not having a clue where to start, to find out what they were.. This impeccable slab of girl-group Northern Soul was eventually disclosed as a 1965 Los Angeles masterpiece by Judy Hughes, who already had the impossible “Ocean Of Motion” to her credit… also ludicrously rare. And yes knowing what the real record was, made it not a jot easier to find… We ashamedly boast this is only our 2nd. copy in 25 years! Enjoy your Wigan Casino recollections but do make sure you listen to the flipside written & produced by another Los Angeles great “Mr. Al Capps” I think this is a damn cool tune also… great girl vocals, shrill choruses and a delicious hint of “You Didn’t Say A Word” in the backing track… Two fab sides - one inconceivably RARE 45! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 2,128.00
  5. i was told the green label was first followed by the re-issued blue lable, not sure if this is right but the guy was a king / federal collector of long standing so he should know i guess, joe.
  6. it's got an "1/2 edge split as well but still plays about vg+ or better i never play it in case i make it worse, i've got it hanging up with some other broken 45's on my wall of pain, joe.
  7. never knew eddie spencer was worth anything like £244 look at my copy which had an accident many years ago
  8. Tinted Glass The Last Hurrah One of the major joys for the serious collector / DJ or dealers is the never ending supply of something new to your eyes and ears. This entirely obscure 1980 soul-dance 45 is a debutant to the Manship Auction, and a welcome one it is too as you’ll find this tune creeping under your skin. Catchy upbeat dance-rhythm is the perfect platform for an at ease lead vocal to glide out his lyrics supported smooth vocal group harmony support. Rare Boogie is what it is - a a 34 year old D.I.Y. job with validated rarity and huge potential. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 115.00 Azusa Money Screams C/w Oh What A Night for the second time this week here’s a very obscure 80s D.I.Y. production, we have picked another auction debutant covering two popular genres - 80s Funk dancer, backed with an heavenly Sweet Soul flipside. This 1983 street-level Funker draws from The Ohio Players, Cameo, Kool & the Gang, Gap Band etc. to pump out an hard edged horn prompted FUNK groove, befitting from a snarling lead vocal and smooth male vocal; bristling with attitude and aggression. Flip is a totally different story - as the gathering feel they can pull off a version of the immortal “Dells” classic! You’ve got to admire this brave move which pays of completely as they deliver a superb take on the song, even offering up an alternative to “Marin Junior’s” imperial vocal, as an unknown vocalist goes solo… the the Big Sax break and the recording is complete. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 40.00 Marvelettes Your Cheating Ways C/w Danger Heartbreak Dead Ahead Perfection!! One of Dave’s of course, cocooned like it was bought yesterday.. We have chosen to flip the sides on this truly immaculate 1965 British press as “Your Cheating Ways” has sat on the subs-bench for too long..it is stunning Northern Soul hidden away on a flipside - it has everything to make it as the next Motown Big NS Thing. Once more DJ’s get behind, what is currently only an occasional spin for those jocks that like to drop in a tasty surprise, whilst running the Motown play list. For the addictive OCD TMG forager seeking vinyl-fulfillment of no-future-upgrading, we assure you may never find a finer copy.. Near perfect vinyl & labels still snuggled in it’s Birth-sleeve… it don’t get any better than this.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 98.00 Little Milton 1968 Stax / Volt Press Kit For those of your passionate about the “paer” and the “History” of Soul music’s greatest artists.. Here is a Super-Cool pic and a 6 page Stax / Volt biography Used for promotional purposes only, you will not get a better insight into this legendary artists work for Stax. Not just rare, dare we suggest irreplaceable - where on earth re we ever gonna see another especially in perfect condition. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 18.00 Duke Royal Monkey On My Back C/w Can't Let You Go Snarling, growling in-your-face Northern Soul pulling from all the influences those great Soul Masters of the era belted out in the Golden Days of 60s Soul. Wilson Pickett Arthur Conley, Sam & Dave, Eddie Floyd all rode the heavy horn productions with defiance and agility. This “Lesser known” Louisiana artist does exactly the same with the gigantic blaring brass backing provided. Duke Royal jumps on board - and belts out a howling performance, supported, as you’d expect, by a bevvy of shrieking ladies..driving this stomper on. Flip it over and the Memphis persuasion is evident again, as the horns lock into the “Chelsea Avenue” experience. A more “Otis” styled mid-tempo but still muscular enough to move the dancer. This 45 would be just as comfortable within a R&B set or a solid Northern Soul repertoire for the DJ who prefers 60 minutes of “meat & potatoes”. Decidedly rare and perfectly perch to rock the house… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 110.00
  9. Eddie Spencer If This Is Love (i'd Rather Be Lonely) The Precisions original version is at this moment in time, causes an instant beer-down-dash to the floor, when the stylus drops on what is pure undiluted Detroit Northern Soul that has been much-loved for decades. But Northern Soul one-up-Manship still prevails in 2014 as some better endowed DJ’s swagger with this version, the very elusive Canadian version that rattled the stanchions of Cleethorpes Pier during the mid-70s - even sparking a UK release on Power Exchange. Before you today is the original Canadian vinyl press, especially for those DJs who don’t entirely want to follow the crowd, but do want to create one on the dancefloor. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 244.00 Valentine Blue With Little Duke Don't You Want To Be My Guy C/w I Walk Alone Every Day R&B TIME! Totally obscure Los Angeles shaker on a label that is proving to be a rich vein in supplying the Deep Soul & R&B fans with some real rarities. This 1963 “impossible” is no exception. Dog rare and sodden in small label charm and angst. Topside witnesses an “unknown” Los Angeles lady strut her way through an uplifting trumpet arrangement, prodded by a relentless hammond whirling away in the back.. it’s a real “Tittyshaker” already grabbing your attention.. then “Little Duke” jumps in with an almighty Sax-Solo, that just tops all. This tune, kicks-ass, utterly rare and spewing out attitude on every note… Flip it over and the label that has already given the “Black” music collector the likes of Arthur Wright, Ruthie Mae Ross, Willie Que, Little Jim Stinny, Curtis Payne etc. gives you yet another excruciatingly obscure artist to consider as the gal gives up a Deep Soul on-your-knees performance on loneliness. What a voice - any info on this talented Sister will be most welcome.. PS condition of this 51 year old is totally flawless! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 181.00 Jackey Beavers Love That Never Grows Old C/w I Need My Baby We did list an EX+ copy several months back which caused a 5 to 6 bidding stampede! This listing we’ve lead with the slightly lesser acknowledged side but one I personally believe is the better Northern Soul offering of the two. Ridiculous statement a both sides are top-drawer examples of the sound - but “Love That Never Grows Old” has more potency to destroy the floor, as that iconic Mike Terry sax pumps into an all-time low-blow… Purely magnificent!. Listen and refresh yourself with the power of GROOVESVILLE and a slightly neglected masterpiece. Then you can always flip it for the highly coveted Trophy-piece sitting on the other side. This copy has light surface marks is visually a strong vg+ and plays exactly as the soundfile reveals potently clean and true. WOW these are two tunes to-die-for….ain’t they! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 742.00 Gloria Jones Come Go With Me C/w How Do You Tell Me Angel THIS IS NORTHERN SOUL! Pure, Perfect and persuasive! beware of STOCK copy counterfeits. This undeniablely rare WHITE PROMO copy is of course it’s most-desirable form - Although a very difficult challenge to secure the WHITE PROMO … But worth the effort, as it will cause you DJ box to swagger… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 486.00 Samantha Jones Surrunded By A Ray Of Sunshine Best example of this Wigan Casino Classic I’ve ever seen. 1967 DEMO and looks like it was pressed yesterday… A floorpacking fave at all the Top All Nighters throughout the 70s - it was yet another single that sat inside your head’s “wish List” as you set off from home to trawl the market stall & junk shops for anything new.. Not many people can truthfully declare they ever found a copy “junking” - I never did - and certainly not in this staggeringly-impossible condition.. I did once find a copy of Ray Pollard’s “The Drifter” at 2.30 in the afternoon as I fell out of a Kettering Town Center Pub into the market one Saturday.. Wilkie, Rug and Glenn Bellamy were certainly not too pleased… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 176.00
  10. Register Ramon Bouche I Gotta Be With You Attention all you British Soul vinyl collectors who have hit the dreaed “brick wall”whilst seeking to add to your already vast collection.. Here is a real-beauty to consider… September 1967 EMI released an impressive version of that Tommy Oliver and Tommy Sands mighty slice of Beat Ballad Heaven… much-wanted as the elusive Los Angeles 45 by Malcolm Hayes on Filmways 101, recorded just one year before this UK release It has to be acknowledged, that the mysterious deep-vocal of Ramon Bouche does a brilliant version of it.. full orchestra arrangement, silky smooth girl-group chorus.. it has everything the Malcolm Hayes trophy has.. and maybe more because not many British fanatics will have heard or own a copy of this. BEAT BALLAD HEAVEN but not has we previously knew it! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 276.00 Marvelettes Knock On My Door An authentic and unique RCA CUSTOM 10” acetate of an UNISSUED Motown session. Proper classic style Detroit Dance, the Motown Sound that became synonymous with summer, feeling good & falling in love. Upbeat Motown was widely responsible for helping to break down racial tension as “Black” music took on a more popular stance to enter the Billboard charts in droves. Why this recording never left the vaults, just underlines the wealth of product Motown was creating. Before you today is a WORLD ONE OFF and it just boils over with everything reason why we fell in love with the sound. PROPER MOTOWN - PROPER NORTHERN SOUL! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 438.00 Big Bo & The Four M's I've Got To Go C/w May I Love You One of the most-elusive and finest vocal-group Northern Soul offerings ever to emerge from Texas. Big Bo was a prolific performer of Soul and released many a thumpin’ tune with his band The Arrows, fully 5 singles other than this one, appealing to the Rare-Soul-Vinyl fan. This time he teams up with an “Impressions-clone” to perform an utterly slick vocal group Northern Soul, backed up on the flipside with a harmony ballad that Curtis Mayfield and the guys would have been proud of. Topside is so Chicago influenced, saturated in all those irresistible qualities, that made them the vocal-group “Darlings” of Northern soul - in fact the likeness created by “The Four M’s” is uncanny. An head-turning mid-tempo delight awaits the lucky winner of this rarity, I doubt whatever venue you DJ at, any another DJ will be able to trump this offering with his own copy. But do expect a little competition from the harmony-vocal ballad enthusiasts because the sleek flipside is again totally “Impressions” in make-up, style and delivery - so much so, you would be forgiven for thinking this could be “The Boys” themselves moonlighting. Very few if any NS Jocks can boast ownership - so act accordingly to impress your dancefloor. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,016.00 Marvin Smith Have More Time C/w Time Stopped We can hear it now, some ill-informed forum curmudgeon moaning this is not an auction record… So lets consider the following points it is “like new”, part of a recent haul of virgin vinyl from a collection of “filed only” Soul 45s. But more importantly the more knowledgeable amongst our customers will be saying “Wow” this 45 is almost invariably seen as the USA PROMO copy “single sided! with “Time Stopped” on BOTH sides. Classic Northern Soul PROMO collectors, we are betting you have this one missing, as will those many of you in love with the Brunswick label.. Remember condition is so fine - you will NOT find a finer example - even if you can find the PROMO with the two good sides. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 125.00 Edwin Starr Scott's On Swingers (s. O. S.) The now legendary PROMO ONLY especially recorded version for Detroit DJ Scott Regen. Mr. Regen being a most influential jock @ WKNR in Detroit at the time, and was paid homage and respect by Ric Tic Records as they vied with the Motown Machine for local sales and airplay. Smart move by Ed Wingate and team to honor a man who regularly MC’d Motown acts at the Roostertail Supper Club, Detroit. This 45 of course hit the Northern Soul scene with a wallop in the early 70s when the lyrics took everyone present by complete surprise. Even today, this 45 still carries the power to ram the floor as the change of lyrics is a great excuse to strut your stuff, to what is one of the greatest records to ever emerge from Detroit - as Northern Soul God Edwin Starr writes and produces a euphoric-recall monster. PROMO ONLY and this copy, apart from one discreet X on label (see scan) is flawless.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 366.00

  14. Invitations What's Wrong With Me Baby C/w Why Did My Baby Turn Bad You have more chance of waking up with Beyonce Sunday morning than finding this all-time Northern Soul great in flawless condition still wearing it’s original file numbered Stateside jacket. Condition is blinding, hardly changing in the last 49 years, after Dave the Twisted Wheel record-hound gleefully received it over the counter of a small electrical shop he had stumble upon - a shop that just happened to have ordered 1 copy of every 60s 45 release. Oh for a time machine when dreams like this were possible.. to hold a British record of such huge reputation in this near perfect state..for an old-timer like me it is like being 16 again.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 194.00 Dynamics You Can Make It If You Try C/w We Found Love How elusive is this - STOCK copy only - utterly uplifting vocal group soulful dancer, taking it’s inspiration from the great Philly productions of the era and vocally, dare we say, Four Topsesque or Norman Johnson is style & depth. Such a rich lead vocal (Fred Baler?) enjoying the big full orchestra production has his vocal slaloms with ease through the lyrics, with huge enthusiasm lifts this session into greatness…a stunning mid-70s rare dance soul.. Why isn’t this 45 already a huge dancefloor fave, would be the burning question.. well how many DJ’s do you know who own a copy? ..would be the quick answer.. Time this 45 got into the right hands.. Where in 2014 are you gonna find a flawless copy of this Wigan Casino classic - unless like we did you can find a USA collection of someone who bought every record he saw for 50 years and never had any interest in soul music - it is very unlikely. This copy is as good as you could eve hope for 48 years after it;s birth. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 542.00
  15. Soul Shakers I'm Getting Weaker C/w It's Love (cause I Feel It) If the status of Northern Soul record was based on quality and rarity rather than how much attention the DJ’s have given it - this Leonard Jewel day-at-the-office would be held up as a NS Trophy to behold. Even though it’s blood-line could hardly carry more kudos, TERI DE production written and produced by Leonard Jewell himself this double helping of Proper Real-Deal Northern Soul is seldom heard at the clubs and more bemusing not often mentioned in discussions concerning the superior sleepers that are yet to stir. But we are sure this listing of the “impossible” Yellow stock copy - and the double sound file will ignite not only raised eyebrows, as memories are woken, as to just how good these two tunes are - yet another reminder of the pure genius Leonard Jewell Smith paraded when it came to crafting superior Northern Soul! This yellow stock copy is in sublime condition - so now prepare for a monumental double offering of perfect vocal-group Northern Soul. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 260.00 Sisters From The Ghetto Somebody C/w What Made You Change Your Mind The top-side is positively dead-right for today’s FUNK flavoured upfront Northern Soul dance sets. Dj’s check out this disc…a 1974 deliciously Funk infused girl-group mid-tempo dance tune from the breeding ground for Californian innovative soul grooves, Oakland! George Spencer & Clark Smith deliver a zinging full-string section arrangement complimenting the tight persistent lady-harmonies, with discreet subtly plucked guitar decorating the rhythm. Lead Sister vocal hits all the right notes as the production builds into a “Sisters Love” style PMT spiced session. Strong on attitude, huge on the depth of backing and so wealthy with the aching soulful-vocals.. Lovers of tighten harmonies, check out the flowing soul-wailing’s on the flipside. This Bay Area coven lose themselves within this testament to the emotions of a spurned women. Girl Group recordings rarely give up this level of desperate impending gloom, if you like it Deep and you like it tight and somber… this side will impress also.. Two great sides - one very elusive disc. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 269.00 Originals Good Night Irene C/w Need Your Lovin' (want You Back) Yes, another one of “Dave’s” captures - that will please then TMG-nuts seeking perfection. We don’t imagine we’ll ever meet another Dave or a copy of this Northern Soul classic as a TMG592 ion better condition. Everything is just as “Dave” found it.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 96.00 Tami Lynn I'm Gonna Run Away From You The more I handle “Dave’s” collection of near 50 years old the more I have visions of this enthusiastic teenager hooked on the Twisted Wheel experience and the excitement that must have bubbled through his eery muscle on payday, as he entered his “Field Of Dreams” to ask the shop assistant (an expert in light bulbs, vacuum cleaners & TV sets) “have you got a copy of Atlantic 4071?” Everything filed by label and number, the anticipation of waiting for her to waddle into the backroom with a list of wants and excitement of seeing just what came back out in her hands. Well, he got lucky that day, AT.4071 was there and here it is today in more or less the exact same shape in was in back then, complete with it’s wavy-top smooth finish paper birth-sleeve. British Soul vinyl collecting was then and still is today - so very exhilarating… when encountering such perfection and the vinyl-hunt-stories the Wheeler-Pioneers recall. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 87.00 Cory Cornell When You Got Married C/w Turn Around Buckle-up! For this weeks insane R&B Northern Soul dance listing, we go back to the streets of Los Angeles and a 1967 double helping of runaway-truck Soul. Roy Brown’s arrangement provides Cory Cornell with psychotic piano backing to a snarling vocal that only takes pause for a horny sax-break to take over. Potent or what? This is RELENTLESS stuff - that will leave the listener and even an accomplish Northern Soul dancer quite breathless as the key changes drive up the desire to move. Flip is more of the same style but not quite a cultured in it’s approach. TWO great sides - rare and in perfect “California purchase” condition. Still retains the original FLASH RECORDS filing tag! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 308.00
  16. Del Larks Out Of The "in" Crowd just insanely RARE! Jimmy Kemper & Charlie Calello project with this iconic group for the mysterious “PRODUCERS RELEASING ORGANIZATION” This is the one and only copy we have ever had in our possession. As with all Charlie Calello arrangements great care is taken in adding layer after layer a lush orchestral backing to compliment this muscular group’s vocal-prowess. The result is a booming huge production Northern Soul dancer boasting all the facets you expect with a dream-meeting of the minds. Surface marks but plays well - definitely the finest condition copy I’ve ever seen - because I’ve never seen another! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 3,067.00 Glenda Shurree Someone Like You C/w We're Gonna Make It Not only has this Compton, California Sister Funk rarity recently become highly sought-after it is also an “impossible” piece in this flawless condition. From the same collection as Jackie Day, Servicemen etc. this California hoarder just did not play Soul 45s. Every piece we gathered from this location is impeccable like new vinyl. So take time to listen to this “Cal-Ful” production, spewing out Sister-angst and power, weaved into this punchy FUNK production. The flip is a down into the depths of despair bluesy-Deep-Soul ballad. Two strong sides - remembering the only other copy we’ve encountered looked like it had spent it’s whole life on the floor of a Rosecrans -party… You will not find a better copy… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 132.00 George Hobson Let It Be Real C/w A Place In Our Heart Get ready for a real top-drawer example of stupidly rare Northern Soul. A mid-tempo that has the power to lift the hair on the back of your neck and send shivers down your back. As George sing from the pit of his stomach aided by the shrillest, coolest most impressive girl you’ll meet this year.. Eye-widening label design is for once surpassed by the quality that lays in the grooves.. seldom if ever comes to market do not pass by - when are you gonna see another one? In this blinding (single light surface blemish) condition. Deep soul fans - you will enjoy the flipside of this seriously rare Nashville creation. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 1,166.00 Marvin Gaye I'll Be Doggone + 3 There cannot be a more captivating EP cover than this pose from Marvin. Just like his vocal delivery - Mr. Gaye sits there saturated in “Cool” even the chair is 60’s designer! This 1966 French 4 track EP would be just as happy in a frame as your record collection such is the quality of the cover. But do lets talk about the 4 tracks provided on this rarity. I’ll Be Doggone Walk On The Wild Side Baby Don’t You Do It Forever Two stomping Motor City Northern Soul dancer with two sublime ballads coming up behind - clever blending and utilization of Marvin vocal talent.. Vinyl and labels are immaculate - the rare EP’s only flaw is a number 3 on the back cover (see scan) Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 156.00 Whispers You Got A Man On Your Hands C/w You Can't Fight What's Right For those DJ/Collectors on the hunt for the underplayed forgotten goodies that could well rise up at anytime and devour your wallet. Here’s yet another Dore delight that has yet to have it’s day in the sun.. Listen to this “Motown” influenced vocal-group Northern Soul dancer that takes a tip from the “Hitsville Studios” by using whatever comes to hand to drive the rhythm. Personally I’m not only captivated by the creamy whirlpool of harmony vocals but also what appears to be a “Broom-handle” being wacked against the wall, beating out the time just perfectly. Motown did their footstompin’ chain-rattlin’, cowbell smashing to enhance the beat - Dore do a very enterprising job on this session, to lift this rarity into compelling Northern Soul by relieving the cleaner of her tools.. Brilliantly crude, splendidly naive and totally essential Los Angeles Northern Soul that will have it’s day…Along with “The Fi-Dels” “The Puffs” and so may other “lost” gems.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 176.00

  19. Majestics Key To Love (is Understanding) C/w Class "a" Decidedly mellow Sweet Soul from the streets of Milwaukee, a subtle 1982 production opens with a gentle caress of the keyboard and a gentle brush of the cymbals opens the doors for a lofty soulful lead vocal to soar overhead. Then the essential falsetto pitch cracks the atmosphere, eerily breaking though, burnishing this already exquisite production. Simple is genius - when you have vocals of this calibre a sparse backing tracks accentuates the recording - truly beautiful. Flip over for 80’s “Sugarhill Gang” style street-funk dancer - very early old-school Hip-Hop rap that also carries value in it’s only right. Rare in the Extreme.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 103.00 R & B Scene February 1965 Volume 1 Edition 5 Roger Eagle’s mid-60s groundbreaking magazine promoting the “Twisted Wheel” and the “Northern Soul & R&BScene” of Manchester and beyond Bio’s and pictures of Slim Harpo, Elmore James, Coasters, Johnny Otis - Rod Stewart (Stuart) Jimmy Reed, Alexis Korner, Graham Bond Organization & The Spencer Davis Group. Back cover advertises the forthcoming attractions to “The Wheel”. But the highlight for me is the window into the era opened by the center page adverts..which included USA California shop advertising 100,0000 45’s. This series of Mags are insanely RARE and are a lasting testament to the Father Of Northern Soul Roger Eagle and his dedication that laid the foundation for what must be the world’s biggest underground music movement.. THIS IS NORTHERN SOUL or should we say the beginnings of: Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 64.00 Jackie Day Naughty Boy C/w I Want Your Love In short the greatest most-powerful girl vocal Northern Soul record ever made, with a sax break that I’ve yet to hear better, with an unsurpassed dance arrangement that demands the floor to be destroyed! It don’t get no better than this! and neither does the condition.. From the same collection as The Servicemen this monster too .. is MINT UNPLAYED Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 865.00 Johnny King & The Fatback Band Keep On Brother Keep On C/w Peace, Love Not War A double-helping of rare Deep Funk from Bill Curtis’s embryonic band who took the world’s dance-clubs by in the 70s. This is prior to their “Perception” years this is a very rare Queens area New York recording spewing out two fabulously angry FUNKERS. All the Fatback’s are there on this session Bill Curtis on production, Johnny King on Bass guitar banging out the rhythm, Jerry Thomas on Keyboards and Bill Curtis smashing drums. Both sides pump it up long and hard with scorching horns, James Brown inspired lead vocal and droning saxophone gluing the bridges together. POTENT stuff real-deal Deep Funk. The flip is marginally more subtle and will be embraced by the wider thinking Northern Soul punter..a mid-tempo dance groove rippling with the same ingredients but just a little less violent! Condition is impeccable. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 473.00 Christine Kittrell I Ain't Nothing But A Fool C/w Sittin' Here Drinking This weeks rare R&B offering comes from one sassy Tennessee Lady dripping with attitude. Better known to the Northern Soul R&B fans for her later work on Vee Jay, Federal & King but the birth of her record releasing career began in 1951 with her records for “Tennessee” label being now extremely sought after. This 45 crosses a few collecting boundaries with the Fats Domino band backing her on the session, the upbeat side will delight the Northern Soul sector that embraces the down n’ dirty, murky 50s’s Dance tunes especially when the filthy sax interruption kick in, a particularly inspired intrusion. Written by a young Ted Jarratt who went on to lead Nashville’s march into local soul recordings. The flipside is considered a street-level “Lady Blues” work of art… a moody journey piano supported testament to late night club-life and t’s occasional despair..a blending of Jazz & Blues that encapsulates the era, the atmosphere of a bar-fly evening, again a killer sax break adds to the quality. No need to remind you her “TENNESSEE” label recording are now full 62 years old and still make you shiver.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 73.00
  20. Sammy Ambrose Welcome To Dreamsville C/w Monkey See-monkey Do Strange thing is perceived rarity of a 45 - you would think on this well distributed New York label - nothing could be that elusive. You’s be wrong - there are many inexplicably rare 45s on this label. Our data suggests to locate a PROMO copy is fine clean condition is no easy task. Two perfect labels and vinyl flawless vinyl to match.. This example was an 100 Club anthem during the late 80’s early 90s… just a perfect Big City production that the club has always embraced, becoming known for championing this style of Northern Soul.; and for this style theer are few better examples.. Love it!! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 279.00 Tams Hey Girl Don't Bother Me C/w Take Away A legendary Twisted Wheel Monster that throughout the 60s enjoyed mythical status, until Probe UK re-issued it in 1971 for it to become Britain’s first Northern Soul hit - and only No. 1 in September of that year. But before you today is the original 1964 British press, still sitting in it’s serial numbered birth-sleeve. One owner only, acquire from a collector who stopped buying records in 1972; after cleaning out his local electrical shop of every record he heard at the Twisted Wheel on a Saturday, he was there on the Monday to cash in of the shop’s policy of buying 1 copy of everything on the release sheet. What a story, what a disc and what exceptional condition! Doubt you’ll ever touch a finer copy. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 187.00 Jean Plum You Ask Me C/w Pour On The Loving for those 70s soul aficionados who delve deep and beyond the obvious, will be nodding as we pitch this as a near impossible STOCK copy with two sides drench is sexy-soul. But why do tunnel-vision Northern Soul collectors think they are the be-all-and-end-all of rare soul collecting? Yes we know the lead side “Pour On The Loving” is a sublime Sister dancer - but that you can acquire as the double-sided promo for reasonable prices. The “sale-pitch” for this STOCK copy is because the awesome ballad “You Ask Me” has been a long standing Japanese / New York Jamaican scene want for as long as I can remember and one click of the soundfile will unveil why. This Hi choice of flipside is Sister Deep Soul as sweet as you could ever wish to hear. Ideal in every way for even the high-bar that Soul Essence “Deep Soul Lounge” has set for over 20 years. Please Northern Soul fans, understand there is a world of soul collectors out there that crave real-soul that stirs the emotions, awakens your senses and spikes your imagination…and we like to offer then the chance to own records like this. The hard to find USA “Just Ask Me” does all those things and more..ticking all the Deep Soul boxes + the condition is perfect.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 161.00 Herb Johnson I'm So Glad C/w Where Are You This Philly Northern Soul oldie is causing a turntable stir again after 40 years of languishing in old-school collectors bedrooms. This TORCH classic is coming back with a bang, upbeat frantic acrobat inducing stomper! 21. Contours Can You Jerk Like Me C/w That Day When She Needed Me OK you British Tamla Motown nuts - yes you know who you are. You’re the guys who have spent a lifetime completing number runs, eternally upgrading in your quest for complete TMG purity. Well, even the most OCD-vinyl afflicted obsessive amongst you may not own a copy of this 1964 UK non-hit, in flawless conditiob, still cocooned in it’s original birth-sleeve. Labels are unblemished - vinyl only reveals the merest paper contact blemish in strong light - after spending 50 years sitting in it’s serial numbered Stateside bag. The insane about condition - this will make you feel normal for a dddd-day or two.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 171.00 Gallahads I've Got To Find A Way C/w Once I Had Love One insanely hard record to find - one that is yet to fully have it’s day - personally I only know of Rugby DJ Phil Shields championing it at the moment - but perhaps one of the very few NS Jock to own a copy. Full-throttle California vocal-group Northern Soul with all those ingredients that make a Northern Soul rarity stand-out and special. An aggressive horn presence, runs head-on into wild-mix of vocal pitches as it squeals it’s way from one peak to another - blaring trumpets summon up even harder working voices that never strain or falter as they deliver PROPER NORTHERN SOUL. The flipside is considered a fine vocal-group “Doo-wop” trophy and that side (only) was bootlegged, triggered by it’s rarity and demand. But listening to it now after many years - I consider this side too strong Northern Soul but down a pace to a creamy NS Stroller dripping with quality. Two great sides that surely someone besides “The Irish” can recognize it’s potential as a 4 figure monster. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 616.00 Fabulous Play Mates Don't Turn Your Back (on Loving) C/w I Ain'r Gonna Be No Fool (for You) It’s that Bay Area genius Harold Andrews, who yet again delivers stand-out Soul. As he captures the rich “Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose” type of atmosphere with this cultured mid-tempo dance-groove. Shimmering with beautifully arranged vocal gliding on a wave of strings and horns. Fully 20 years earlier he created “The Inticers” double-masterpiece on Baby Luv! in-between he pleasured the rare-soul fan with all his fabulous material on “Balance” all for little or no reward; except for huge adulation from those Europeans who are forever digging below the surface for their choice of Soul Music. This 45, as one “Soul Essence” regular told me “just my favourite tune of all time” funny how Harold’s work consistently sparks off nothing but favourable comment. This one one of his most-elusive works and it’s drenched in class!!! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 664.00 Willie Parker I've Got To Fight It C/w Let's Start A Thing Now Here’s is another example of bemusing rarity as every other release, of the 5 Willie Parker had for this notable Chicago label is not so hard to acquire. The blaring horns exploding on the very first note, does not deter Willie Parker in the slightest as his growling vocal rises up to perfectly marry into Eddie Silvers & Maurice Simpkins torrid session. It is an almighty slab of Northern Soul tat has been perched and ready to go for decades - occasionally getting the turntable time it obviously deserves, only to again fall into the swamp of the under-played. For those who adore the dance-floor-destroyers, the relentless ear-drum shatterers that defy rhythm or reason as to why they are not in 2014 considered timeless NS classic. If as time marches on you prefer your footwork a tad slower - get a load of the flipside - an equally impressive Northern Soul production. This copy is astonishingly PERFECT in ever way. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 187.00 Shirley Lawson One More Chance C/w The Star the WITHDRAWN Soul City #108 due to legal issues with the UK’s “Back Beat Records” official licensee “ISLAND RECORDS” This copy is so untouched and perfect you can still see the paper-flakes hangin’ on the inside of the “dinked” 4 prong center. I’m flabbergasted this 45 is 46 years old and looks like Dave Godin has just handed it over he Soul City Shop counter to you. Well it did come from the “Wheeler’s” collection which he last handled in 1971.. little wonder this offering is in blinding condition As for the music the 45 gives up, click the soundfile to reveal exactly why this is Soul City’s most-wanted, most valuable release - gaze upon the scan - enlarge to witness those paper flakes - just amazing! resist if you can…. thank to Dave Kilworth for Soul City documentation (scan provided) this item is for provenance ONLY - and does NOT come with the record. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 412.00
  22. VAN DYKES LOOKS A BIT CHEAP IMO ??
  23. Sophisticates I Really Hope You Do C/w Let Me Go Oh so soulful 1967 Los Angeles crafted strolling Northern Soul… that seems near impossible to capture. Jugging arrangement is embroidered with an on-0your-knees beseeching Sister lead vocal and expands in volume and despair as the despair takes hold. Imaginative Greg Poree arrangement adorns the session with a girl-crew harmony and breaks of a vibe and piano mix. You will discover this session grabbing hold of your mind as the melting atmosphere delivers more Soul than is good for the heart. If you flip it, you’re hit with a down the line gut-wrenching Deep soul.. . Two totally spectacular sides so thoughtfully arranged by a guy who 3 years later joined Motown as Musical Direction - don’tcha know. Condition of this extreme rarity is a smidge off perfect.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 212.00 Lord Luther My Mistake With the power usually reserved for Monk Higgins productions this preposterously rare Bay Area beauty grinds out a rasping Northern Soul dancer where the horns take backstage to Lord Luther’s verbal assualt. If you ever wanted to own a “sleeper” with massive potential for a much bigger ticket - this dance-assassin has snoozed away since the 70s never quite being in the right place at the right time or being around in enough quantity for it to achieve dancefloor established.. In this century You Tube and websites have made access to the “under-played” music obscurities so much easier.. although very few [people actually own a copy of this Northern Soul Hooligan it is now highly-regarded and on the lips of collectors and DJ’s. We think in the right hands this 45 is a really solid investment - I’m sure we said that about “Rudy Love’s - Suffering Wrath..” a while back.. known and occasionally heard since the mid-70s but bristling with all the forceful qualities that will one day make it a NS Monster. A tip… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 237.00 Electric Express Hear Say - Vocal + Instrumetal For some reason the boys sat Key-Vac decided to lead with the saxophone version as the a-side it’s nice meat & tidy but does not deliver the like the soulful vocal side does. Maybe a mistake that condemned this 70s crossover delight to obscurity! Check out the elaborate maze of vocals that replace the saxophone on the flipside… strong male vocals are suspended by haunting girl cooing, precision horn interventions compliment the vocal goings-on as the production rises and falls perfectly for the Soulful dancer to immerse themselves in. …then the sexy sax returns near the end to ice this terrific tune with “cool” Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 161.00 W. J. B. Washinngton Jamb Band Sorry About Today C/w You Have Made A Big Mistake Not as the name suggests a street-level group from Washington, D. C. but gathering of Soul from St. Petersburg, Florida. With the Washington referencing Leo Washington group leader of this versatile gathering. The group “Gonna Get Your Cherry” album on Leo, is one of Funk’s most highly-prized platters. This 45 precedes the album and neither side appears on it. So check out this Hunk Of Funk from the Sunshine State - irresistible rhythm, Kool & The Gang styled relentless horns, rumbling lead vocal, persistent wah-wah guitar and trumpets from Heaven. This is proper 70s Funk ignoring all the crass influences of 1976 and the lift-off of disco. Flip it over and your treat to the unusual combination of Sweet Harmony Group Soul with a pinch of attitude.. horns again set the scene as a dominating vocal - says “Hey Baby You’ve Made A Mistake - Find a man standing in the closet with my pajamas on..” That’s after she ignored his request to “Put The Money Back In The Bank Baby…” the cheek of the lady…! Two fabulous examples of individualistic independent Soul - SO RARE and covering two very collectable genre! with the FUNK side right on the money for today’s Funk influenced upfront DJ.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 26.00 Van Dykes Save My Love For A Rainy Day It’s timeless Northern Soul CLASSIC! and before the soundfile was lifted this beauty was an “unplayed” copy straight from a Blues collection where it was filed neglected and unloved out of the collectors taste boundaries sine the mid-60s. You will not encounter a finer example - still hugging it’s birth-sleeve, two labels that are flawless in every way - and virgin vinyl only deflowered 46 years after it’s birth. On close inspection I can’t even detect a sleeve brush blemish - this 45 really is as near perfect as you could ever hope to own. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 212.00
  24. Darrow Fletcher Honey Can I C/w Rising Cost Of Love The beauty of the rare stock copy that sports a flipside of pure quality that is not available as the much commoner PROMO, is forcing some of these “stockers” way up in demand, as most are seriously hard to acquire. This example is from Darrow’s impressive 70s sessions for Ray Charles’s Cross-Over label whilst Darrow was under the wings Len Ron Hanks & Zane Grey label dates it at 1979 i think it was possibly recorded before that if so, making his version of “Rising Cost Of Love” first before the equally impossible Jean Terrell single. The company flipside of the STOCK ONLY press is just a killer mid-tempo tune (like all this man’s work) drenched in expressive-emotion of the type the “Soul Essence” faithful just love to sway to. The flipside you do see occasionally as the promo - but what a tune, again it’s Len Ron Hanks & Zane Grey providing the material for Darrow to flex his poignant voice upon. Everybody who is really into SOUL recognizes this artist as encapsulating everything that draws us to the sound. And this elusive single offers the owner a double-helping of one of the world’s most-naturally gifted singers of the sound. you want two sides it’s STOCK ONLY and no easy find! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 184.00 Shorty Long Function At He Junction C/w Call On Me Condition, Condition, Condition. We have an Excellent copy sitting on the website set-sale at he moment, but the serious about collecting the early TMG series will confirm it is an endless upward spiral of upgrading their cherished 500’s. Seeking out unblemished labels & vinyl as near to perfect as they could ever hope for - this is pretty damn close. Both labels are flaw free, close analyzing of the vinyl surface only reveals the very lightest of sleeve contact surface whiskers.. it’s an all-round beauty. The desirability also lies in the reputation this Twisted Wheel classic carries - something of an anthem for the MODS during the 60s, with a mostly unknown flipside that mirrors some of Sam Cooke’s finest work - Motown are not renowned for their Soulful ballads but when they did record and release one they made darn sure it was a killer. “Call On Me” is exactly that… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 68.00 Boobie Knight And The Universal Lady A Woman Will Make You Love C/w Somebody Touch Me (in The Right Place) An almost mythical Sweet Soul rarity! Of course we knew it existed but this is our first copy in memory, because 99.9% of this 45 are one-sided stereo/mono PROMO’s of the Funk side. At last here’s a 1974 STOCK copy with the divine sweet soul ballad hidden away on the flip. A gently bluesy atmospheric production, melts into sublimely blended Sweet Soul, showcasing a cold-as-ice falsettol gliding on a thermal of sexy-sax, male-vocals oohs & arrhs and a very complimentary jazzy guitar precisely plucking away embroidering an already fabulous production into greatness. This is a Sweet Soul masterpiece and near impossible to find! Flip it for an early 70s FUNK dancer which is good in it’s own right - but the Sweet side is utterly heavenly! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 61.00 Marvin Pryer What Can I Call My Own Let’s make no bones about this - you are viewing and about to hear one of Deep Soul collecting, most-wanted least-seen trophies. Beyond rare (our first copy in well over 30 years) and way beyond Deep…young Marvin’s portrayal of despair will take you into an abyss of misery, as he milk’s every aspect of his fellow Memphis hero Otis. Listen and weep - miss this listing you may never seen another - Just so insanely RARE - just so fabulously Soulful. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 348.00 Jerry Williams If You Ask Me (because I Love You) C/w Yvonne It is a Northern Soul Factoid that.. The very first copy to ever be played on the Northern Soul scene circa 1971 was in fact the very rare SPANISH 1966 press, just like this example before you today. Note the 1966 original differs greatly from the 1973 Calla remix that also enjoyed a 1974 release in the UK in 1974. For the original full-strength top volume floorshakin’ best - go every time for the 1966 recording - if you would like to own it’s most-historical format - you cannot beat his seldom-seen 1966 Spanish press complete with the head-turning title cover. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 111.00
  25. Register Gentlemen Four You Can't Keep A Good Man Down C/w It Won't Hurt Oh yes! Not only one of this most-admired label’s rarest 45s but also one of it’s finest Northern Soul offerings BOTH sides. Top side is bludgeoning brass pumped Northern Soul belter, lead by a trumpet supported husky vocal. Relentless horns glide over a muscular male-harmony support, the mixture delivers real-deal Northern Soul tat has remained RARE and un-booted for over 4 decades.. always has been one of the seriously hard-to-acquire “Wand’s” and always will be. If that wasn’t enough to tempt you into ownership; the flipside drops in pace but loses no quality what so ever, as the boys once again serve up a master-class in male-vocal-group-harmony. This time Pam Sawyer & Lori Burton are the writers as Dionne Warwick’s men give up a killer version of The O’Jays 1966 Imperial recording. I rate this 45 so highly - why it’s not today considered a Northern Soul classic is purely down to it’s rarity and lack of exposure. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 586.00 Pinkertones Featuring Eddie Gross It's Not The Way You Walk C/w It's Not Who You Are Perhaps Blue eye-Northern Soul, but at it most impressive! Very rare 1969 San Diego, California Northern soul that has had an underground cult fan base since it was first played covered up as “The Royal Five”. “The Way You Walk” ..for those of you not driven by bigotry, dismissing the likes of Chuck Cockerham etc. as “white and not worthy. This band are most probably of the light-skinned variety but they like so many of the great Carolina’s dance 45 essentially influenced by “Soul” and it’s powerful arrangements. Flip it over for more of the same full production, taken down to a medium pace but still benefiting from that brawny-brass and sturdy vocal. Two great sides - one very elusive disc. The winning bid was £ 948.00 Four Tops Your Song Red Alert ! the in-demand bells rung out across John Manship Records recently when we uploaded our single copy of this 45 to Music Stack / GEMM on a Friday - on Monday morning we had multiple orders for it..and it certainly wasn’t cheap. So off I trot to the unprocessed “Creole” label 45s and got lucky - a Mint unplayed copy that was hidden for years was there, ready to be set free. It was after all, a “flop” on release in 1983 even though this version of the Dells / Laura Lee song is an absolute stunner, as the unmistakable vocal of Levi Stubbs snarls out Cecil Womack’s lyrics..Utter mid-paced brilliance produced by Don Davis and the Tops at full-throttle.. what more could a dancefloor ask for?
