well when im at a venue like that...I feel there is something missing...I think there is more to our scene than just a 60's motown type disco....I hope so ,or have I been living in a dream world the last 35 or so years Bazza

If the last couple of years are anything to go by...I think there will just as many be venues...but now this is the thing more of them will turn into older peoples "disco's" as is happening now..I like to travel around and have a look at different venues...I feel there are actually very few true Soul do's..with true soulies many are just places that stay open later than the local pub, cost very little to get in full of folks that 30 years ago were disco'ers the john travoltas and shirley basseys.....believe me they are back..Ive seen em the Soul clubs will be few and far between but they will be Soul clubs....im looking forward to it....if Im still around of course I have been known to be wrong.....................was a long time ago tho' Bazza

Very nice post..enjoyed reading it...but I still dont understand why you cant play some classics and big money tunes along side the lesser or unknown stuff that would for me be ideal Bazza

No I dont think so...if a do designates its self as an upfront do' then a Do' opens up as a classic oldies Do' on the same night, same town , is this overkill ???? I would say not..in fact I think both Do's are at fault because they are pigeon holing them selves Bazza

Can Some one explain to me why ...If you want to play upfront tunes ,the Venue has to be an " upfront " only do' why Cant you mix em in at a Normal Do'..I honestly Dont understand. why is there this need to split the genre's..???????....not genre's styles may be a better word....you know what I mean Bazza

Why has it got to be upfront OR classic oldies.....why cant these Venues do a good Mix....some folk (me included ) want to hear the great Big money classics along side the upfront stuff..but this seems to be a problem for promoters ..........I dont understand why it has to be one or the other...the oldies only do's alienate the upfront fans ......the upfront do's alienate the classic oldies fans....bloody daft Not to mention none of em play enough R&B ( for me ) Bazza

Been lookiing at the tunes mentioned on this thread....they were / are fantastic ...I dont think theres been anything since that can touch them...probably cos I was a lad and it was all new ,and I was dancing my socks of to all these great tunes Great great days Bazza

Very Sad...I think it would be very difficult to promote such a night...you have got to be in the right area ,the only one I am aware of that manages to do this is the Attic Mansfield the reasons I think are this high population of soulies Mansfield Sheffield Nottm many many Venues in this area...but most playing the same old stuff,so alot of Soulies where already looking for some thing a little bit Different and The Attic popped up at just the right time Bazza Just edited it ...first bit was gobbldegook

Same here Mark...but I think that talking about it on here does help....a little ....there are many promoters and DJ's on here as you know surely they take note of some of the comments..and maybe act on them Bazza

Hi Barry,nope ..there are only a couple of do's that I never miss...on a saturday..and Pilsley is one of em annesley the other ....because you do mix it a bit..it stays interesting..quite a few have faded away ..but not you two...for good reason...many of the others we go to just because its a bit better than sitting in a pub....keep up the good work......cya next weekend Bazza
