  2. to condemn the man before he's had a chance is ridiculous Can't see it happening but I'd laugh so much if the show gets a good write up on here
  3. Ah but Kirsty without the occaisional show like this on national radio the "young fresh blood" would be snared how? Can't really see the hippest young dj's on pirate radio saying "And coming up next here's the latest newie being played on the Northern scene" can you?
  4. PS there were a lot of other versions replacing New York with other citys a lot of the different versions were named on a thread from earlier in the year here /index.php?showtopic=41774
  5. Not just him but just about everyone on the Philedelpia International label. This is from the Warner Brothers website "Urban awareness anthem originally intended as a cut on a Lou Rawls album, but eventually conceived as an individual release featuring stars of the Philadelphia International label including Teddy Pendergrass, Archie Bell, The O'Jays, Dee Dee Sharp & Billy Paul. The original record opened with Lou Rawls explaining the effect of the 1977 New York garbage strike, summarizing that "You can no longer depend on the man downtown to take care of business...We have to do it for ourselves." "
  6. I agree, hang Craig Charles from the nearest tree for having the front to host a programme on national radio playing soul music. How dare he have the cheek to encourage the editor of the Radio Times to describe him as an "specialist" in a musical field he cannot honestly know as much about as all of us on here combined. Perhaps the editor should have said "No nothing Craig Charles presents a night of crappy old Soul music", that would get the punters tuned in Can't believe that some of you are taking the piss out of a show that may just get a few extra punters through the door at your soul nights. And at a time when vitually everyone is saying attendances are down and what will save Northern Soul in the future, surely a programme that presents Northern Soul to a wider audience should be encouraged not lambasted.
